They had lived here qjver seven years and had made many friends. Ed was the Sea Scout Leader for a number of years. Herb and Lorraine Lindemann have sold their beautiful home on Broadway and will be ihoving before the 15th of June, to a new apartment on the Southeast side of Chicago. The Lindemanns have lived here for six years and their home and yard were just beautiful it will not seem the same when they are gone. Both were very ^ active members of the V.F.W. Post 4600 in McHenry, and Lorraine held an office with the Post. She was to have been installed as historian in the auxiliary but resigned so the post could get some one to replace her. Lorraine will be missed by all the members of the Pink Lady Sewing Guild of the Auxiliary to the McHenry hospital. She was also very active in the Pistakee Highland Women's Club. We are losing so many wonderful folks in short order, the Highlands is rapidly changing. We want to wish the Lindemanns all the luck and happiness in the world in their new home and we know they Will be keeping in touch with Ub via the Plaindealer. We hope fo see them visiting here often. Alice Harris made the cover for the church organ, and several girls planted the flower garden. The men have been keeping the lawn mowed. We have two foster mothers in the Highlands, quite unusual foster mothers too, Jeanne Hillstrom is busy nursing four wild bunnies after their mommie was killed by a car, the tiny bottles of milk are being devoured by the hungry little bunnies. Rose Schifferdecker is busy chucking worms, bread and seeds down a baby bird, her hubby, Charlie, rescued from a cat, the baby bird is living like a king, with a cotton nest, a nice cage and a lot of tender loving care. Rev. Stewart Smith and his wife, Florence, and their three daughters from Chicago attended the open house for Ed and Ginny Thoren May 23. Everyone was most happy to see this popular young couple again. We hope Mrs. Wehesler has recovered from her harrowing experience and injuries, Mrs. Wehesler, a sweet retired gal, was assaulted and beaten in Fox Lake Thursday, May 21 and thrown in to an alley. She is a mass vof black and blue from the beating. Mrs. Wehesler is the mother of Rita Havelick, where she and her husband make their home on Agatha, and McGee Sluga and another daughter who also lives on Agatha. Hill went home a very sad fellow, his automobile was completely destroyed by fire. The Fox Lake Fire Department tried in vain to save it. The kindergarten class enjoyed a day at Hawthorne Farm Zoo, May 26. All the little tykes were so excited about the trip, they were up and ready before the mommies got up. Dick and Haze Morley and their four sons, and Dick's sister, Glenda, and husband, Larry, of Lake Villa and their three kiddies spent the Memorial weekend camping, near Wonder Lake. The two couples really had a ball, this was a first for Dick's sister. The Schifferdeckers are busy folks these days, May 26, grandma and grandpa, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Van Dyke of Chicago, arrived to spend a week with them. May 20, Charlie and Rose attended a big dinner for the Moose in Antioch. The Memorial weekend found Dick and Mary Lou Sabielny and their four sons joining Jim and Jane Malek and their three daughters in a camping trip at the Illinois State Beach Park. May 23, Tom Sabielny celebrated his birthday with several of his buddies, Bobby Jenkins, Robbie Kawahara, Buddy Phlug, Richie Waldecki, Dennis Sisk and his two brothers, Jimmy and Danny. In addition to the games, gifts, cake and an afternoon of fun the boys all went home with a monster statue, the latest rage for the youngsters. Sunday, May 24, Tom was blessed with another party with the adults, his uncle Edward Sabielny, his greataunt, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Eckhardt and Mr. and Mrs. Ben Froemming and their two sons, Michael and Benny, all of Chicago came out for a big birthday dinner, Tom was showered with gifts. Attention all mothers of next year's kindergarten classes, Mary Lou Sabielny is interested in forming a carpool to get the kiddies to and from classes. Fritz and Sally Jo Von Bruenchenheim entertained Sally's brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Scott of Hoffman Estates, for the Memorial weekend. The two couples enjoyed a camping trip and picnic. May 28, Vi Schuble, Sally Jo Von Bruenchenheim, Teena O'- Malley, Juanita Blackburn and Janice Janquart, gathered at the home of Lorraine Lindemann for a farewell party. The girls brought a cake, with all the goodies to go with it and spent the day helping Lorraine pack and get ready for the big move. It is nice seeing LaVerne Madock in the Highlands again. We hate to see her go back to Buffalo, N. Y., her new home. We hope she will make the trip back here often, we miss that smile, gal. Arthur and Clara Ernst entertained Clara's 84 year old cousin, Miss Harriet Benner, and her aunt, Mrs. O. Gohlke, 90 years young, of Chicago, all day May 21, Clara's aunt Mrs. Gohlke is also her godmother. In addition to a delicious luncheon, they enjoyed a tour of our area. Memorial Day the_. Ernsts were happy to have their children with them for . a family picnic. Their daughter, Helen, and husband, Fred Ries, and their daughter, Judy, from Des Plaines, their daughter, Dorothy, and their daughter, Claire, and husband, Allan Stratford, all from Chicago, enjoyed the day in the very beautiful yard of the Ernsts. It is a beauty spot in the Highlands and many folks stop just to look at it. Lee Orlowski spent May. 27 in Chicago on business and visiting with old cronies, Lil has to miss the trips to Chicago due to ill health. June 3, the following guests attended the graduation exercises to see Renee Janquart receive her diploma, her^grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Schwartz of Beaver Dam, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Sedlin, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Sergeant, Dick and Haze Morley and Bob and Teena O'- Malley. After the services they gathered at the Janquart home for a big celebration with lots of delicious food and refreshments. We are happy to hear that Marge Moreth was discharged from the hospital May 25. We are happy to have you home gal and please take it easy and if you need help give us a call, we will come running. Pat Jackson is happy to have her uncle, Dick Betz, who lives on Bunny Avenue, back home after spending a week in Hines hospital. We hope you're feeling much better Dick and please take it easy so you and your lovely wife can enjoy many years together. The Betzes are another couple who take great pride in their hoVne and yard which is a showplace. r,Jean Petrov is modestly accepting all the congratulations she is receiving for the great job she did as chairman of the May 22 dance for the seventh and eighth grades of the Johnsburg school. The dance for the students afid their parents was titled. "Age of Tomorrow". Jean graduated June 3. Her parents, Steve and Ruth, were so proud of her. Ruth had a buffet supper for all the relatives from Chicago and her mother, Mrs. Witte, who attend the graduation exercises. Dick and Rose Farwell entertained Dick's mother from Cicero and some friends from Chicago over the Memorial weekend. They enjoyed visiting and boating. Ron and Pat Jackson spent last weekend in Chicago helping Pat's mother, Mrs. Ward, move. While their they visited Pat's brother and wife to get the first glimpse of their new nephew born May 16. The baby has been named Johnathon. Don and Audrey Morin and children enjoyed the Memorial weekend camping at the Chain of Lakes park. Since this was the baby's first camping trip they wanted to be close to home just in case an emergency came up. Forrest and Grace Reinhardt returned to work June 1, after enjoying a week's vacation, May 24 Grace and her daughter, Gloria Mack, attended a twin bridal luncheon in Chicago for Grace s cousins. Grace ®and Forrest spent a few days visiting Grace's cousin, in Clinton, Iowa. A happy birthday to ! ' you, Forrest. He celebrated his big day, ^une 6. Georgie Hanisch is enjoying having a big brother around for a while. 1)om VonEmpel of •Ingleside has been staying with the Hanisches for the past two weeks. While his parents, Eva and Job, are getting settled in a new home near Chicago. Theo is completing his classes in Fox Lake, and he has been a real buddy »to Georgie who will miss him very much when he leaves. May 27 Theo's parents and brother drove out to see him and had supper with Joe and Liesl. Memorial weekend found yours truly and her hubby battling all the boats and enjoying a cook out with friends, and lots of just plain loafing on Wally's and my part. Pistakee Highlands Women's Club The newly elected officers presided at the May 27 meeting. They are president, Janice Janquart, vice-president, Barbara Sisk, secretary, Rosemarie Koch, and treasurer, Marge Moreth. Marge was unable to attend the meeting having just returned home after surgery. The new officers had a most interesting program for the closing meeting until September when the meetings will be resumed. Plans were made for a bazaar and bake sale to be held the first Saturday in December. At the community center, more exciting events will follow. Beverle^ Lewandowski was awarded the annual Mother of the Year award. It couldn't have happened to a nicer gal, Bev. is the proud mother of seven children and she is a slim, trim, beautiful young lady who looks more like a teenager than a mother of seven children. The following women volunteered to be chairmen, Jane Malek, Sunshine chairman, and her assistant, Pat SicilanQ; American Citizen chairman, Juanita Blackburn; Indian Affairs, Blanche Haefliger; Library chairman, Phyliss Benkert; Press and Publicity, Rosemarie Koch; Community Improvement, Audree Misavlce; and Youth Program, Sally Jo Von Bruenchenheim. The hair and skin care program was very well presented by a well known Lake Regions beautician and her three assistants, each handling a different presentation of their specialty. The hostess for the evening were: Dorothy Hayner, Pat Siciliano, Mrs. Redman, Myrtle Bentz and Toots Spankuch.
