\ Page Eighteen THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Thursday* June 11# 1964 lyslde fisiafles |SIX YOUNG tOLKS lAMONC LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES Cftrls Fall -- 385-4084 Mixed emotions soared high lor the graduating students of 1964 as they filed past old familiar surroundings to McCracken Field to attend their final activities at McHenry High; that of commencement exercises. The exercises took place Thursday evening, June 4, at 8:15. Among the 238 graduating seniors were Carol Kuntz, Charlotte Gerke. Dennis Banker, Diane Bierchen, Vicki Jeski and Lillian Kelso from Sunnyside Estates. The weather was clear, but cold and the bleachers well filled. I am sure this night will not soon be forgotten by those who participated. Facing The Future As I talked with each of the high schqpl graduates from our subdivision, I found they are viewing the future realistically with ambition and enthusiasm. Dennis Banker plans to attend Southern Illinois University for a summer quarter, and hopes to enter Unioh College in Kentucky next fall, majoring in social science or political •science. Lillian Kelso plans to attend Elgin Community Jr. College, majoring in Spanish, and at "sometime in the future hopes to be an interpreter of languages; also, to spend some time as an airline stewardess. Good luck, •Lillian. I am sure there is plenty of time to realize all your ambitions. ^ Carol Kuntz and Charlotte 'JpTerkej who have worked as secretaries for teachers at school, intend to take a long summer vacation and then assume further duties in this line of work. Both said they would like to further their education. It's comptometer school for Diane Bierchen and Vicki Jeski after a period of working, which they have already begun. To our young people, of whom we are very proud for their sincere efforts in school, congratulations and much success; in Attaining the worthy goals you have set for yourselves. Student Parties Vicki Jeski was among twenty- three seniors and several juniors who attended a special partyVgfivielri for 'ft&tibhal Honor Society students and their families following the Baccalaureate Service Sunday night, May 31, in the McHenry high school cafeteria. Proud parents watched as gold tassels were received by the students. Congratulations. Vicki. for this great achievement. Were those sonic booms or thunder we heard coming from the Walczynski house last Saturday night? No? Just the Beatles singing for a party given for Judy and her eighth grade classmates from St. John. From the class of forty- one students graduating this year, thirty-one were able to attend the party. "I had a ball", said Mom, who participated in the lively activities along with Dad Walczynski. The evening, which began at 7 o'clock, was filled with dancing, games and refreshments. "Why do parents always have to come on time", was heard from one reluctant home goer as the party ended at 11. Sounds as "though they all had a ball, Joan! And More Congratulations --to Mary Anderson, Judy Walczynski and Don Voight who graduated from St. John's grade school. The diplomas were presented Sunday, June 7, during the 8 o'clock Mass. Johnsbiirg public school auditorium was the scene of another graduation which took place June 3, at 8 p.m. Christine Ray and Michael Mikkelsen were among those who graduated. Good luck, and may the days that tie ahead be filled with joy and satisfaction as you complete your education. SEHOA Sunnyside Estates Homeowners Association, Inc. regular bi-monthly meeting which was scheduled for June 4, Johnsburg School, was cancelled for lack of participants, presumably because of graduations. The next scheduled meeting is for Aug. -9-6. May we have a good turn out. Girl Scouts A Mother-Daughter Tea was held May 19, at Johnsburg school with some fifty scouts and mothers in attendance. A good program was planned with the girls singing an arrangement of Americana songs, and the awarding of year pins and badges that the girls had worked hard for throughout the year. The decorations were beautiful and the food delicious. Thanks to Joan Stull, Luella Schultz, Betty Lakowske, and Sylvia Von 'Oepen for their work on these committees. A special thanks to Alice Bieschke for taking over for the ailing Pixie, scout leader of Troup 88. It seems the scouting, under the too hot sun, for pins and other materials for the party the previous day, put the scout leader a bit 'under the weather'. Hope you have, by now, fully recovered from this bout, Pixie. * 9 Marching,, marching, in their green uniforms and sporting their new pins and badges, the girls did beautifully in the Memorial Day parade. This time the scout leader did beautifully, too, until she was almost home, this is. The report is; she fell (or collapsed?) at the steps of our local grocery. Perhaps the long summer rest will revive her for activities in the fall, as the troop has no regular meetings scheduled . for the summer months. However, there is a field trip planned for June 10, in which the troop will visit the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. Have your nose bags packed early, girls. The bus leaves at 8:30 a.m., and the stop for food on the return trip should be a real treat. Leave your money at home. All expenses will be taken from the troop treasury; and have a good time! Birthday Doings Frank Gowin was happy to have his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Michels, present for a delicious dinner, given by his mother, on his eighth birthday, June 2. The big treat, cake and all the birthday trimmings came later when his twin aunts and their families, the William Giess' FREUNI DAIRY, he. Complete Line of Dairy Product* Whitewater, Wis., and the Warren Hagers' from Hartland arrived later in the evening. Guy Gam had his big day on May 27, shared by Ernie and Martin Von'Oepen, Steve and Mike Brotherton, Joey Martinez, and sister, Gayle. The outdoor fun was lead mostly by big sister, and the boys seemed content to have it that way. What is a birthday party without goodies? Well, it is not, and so there were goodies. Birthdays and Anniversaries Birthday wishes go to Lois McDonald, who celebrates her birthday On the 15th, and to three year old Terry Lee Ranter also on the 15th. Best wishes to Lillian (Bunny) and John Mischki, who will be adding another year to their ten happy ones on June 13, to Louise and Magnus Olson for their seventh anniversary June 13, and to Helen and Sol Kobus on the 14th for 23'years of wedded bliss. Vacationing Reporter „ Thanks for the news items that have been phoned in during the absence of our vacationing reporter, Fran Olsen. Please bear with me as I endeavor to keep yoti informed while she is away. Fran and children will be spending several Weeks with relatives and friends in Omaha, Nebr., leaving friend husband home to do the fishing,, golfing, and perhaps a few games of tennis and badminton. We feel so sorry for yoU, Jerry, with all that domestic work, but if you find the w&ter does not boil properly, or the cup seems to have a brownish head, visit your neighbors. Some bf them always have the coffee pot on. Anyway, happy holidays Fran and kiddies. RECEIVES DEGREE Thomas Edward Olsen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ole. T. .Olsen of 2901 N. The,Church is the greatest factor oh earth for the building of character and good dtlzenihip. It is a storehouse of spiritual values. Without a strong Church, neither democracy nor civilization can survive. There are four sound reasons why evWy person should attend services regularly and support the Church. They are: (1) F6r his own sake. (2) For bis children's sake. (8) For the sake of his community and nation. (4) For the sake of the Church itself, Which needs hio moral and material support.
