Photo Hazel Ewell of Ringwood, nationally known artist who will present a one-man show at the McHenry Country Art Fair on June 19, 20 and 21, is shown here with J. E. Olson, chairman of the fair's hanging committee. A delightful art experience awaits visitors to the McHenry Country Art Fair, June 19, 20 and 21. The one man now will feature the gifted Hazel Ewell of Ringwood. She is recognized as an outstanding artist by national standards and one of her silk screens, "Three Walking North", is on permanent exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum in New York. Her experience in various art media guarantee a show that will produce excitement. A" short conversation with her quickly reveals a vital and quick-witted person. She readily talks of the past and is extremely proud of her late husband, Isaac, a well-known sculptor, who did the War Memorial in Highland Park. Studied In Chicago Hazel Ewell, the daughter of a lawyer, was born in Kansas. She was raised in Nebraska and later moved East. She studied and taught at the Art Institute in Chicago, is a member of the North Shore Art club and has worked and exhibited there. A versatile artist, she feels that her trip to Europe was the highlight of her career. She painted her way through Europe and worked with many famous artists: Emil Jensen in ceramics and George Oberteuffer in portraits. Joe de Coleft taught her sculpture by the direct carving method. She later;.. painted with Francis Chapinr Adolph Dehan and JamigeriT Wins Many Honors §he is reticent about discussing the many honors she has received. Besides being permanently represented at the Metropolitan Museum in New York, she has a permanent exhibit at the Cincinnati Museum and the Morton Gallery in Palm Beach, Fla. Recently the Tweed Gallery of the Minnesota Mining and Mfg. Co. purchased one of her prints to be reproduced on their fabric. She has had over twenty one-man shows, and her works are owned by many private collectors. Her sculpture, "Lot's Wife", which will be in the Country Art Fair Show, was one of the forty-six sculptures chosen from 1,000 entries to be in the New Horizons all sculpture show in Chicago last year. Such a magnificent artist is well -worth seeing, and it is a rare treat to view a show of this scope with such ease. Over 150 McHenry county artists are exhibiting at the Art Fair this year. In addition to the artists' gallery and Hazel Ewell's one man Show, the Art Fair offers a great variety of attractions-- a photography show, theaterin- the round, hootenanny, refreshments, and many more.
