THE SEWER SYSTEM "Every registered voter In the village of McCullom Lake should make every effort to get out and vote a big NO on June 13, at the Beach House on the sanitary sewer system and sewage treatment facilities. Do the home owners know what it will cost them to run the sewer pipe from the road where they start ,with a $225 tap-in fee to the, rear of their, home where the present, system is installed? Will the home owners' property be assessed for more after the sewer is installed? Are all the summer home owners going to want to tap into the sewer when they cannot vote on the sewer system? "Well, let me answer the above questions the best I can. First, it will cost hundreds of dollars to run the sewer pipe from the rear of your homes, on top of all the other fees and taxes; second, if you were a summer home owner and could not vote, you would not pay all the extra hundreds of dollars to tap into the sewer; third, when you make any improvements to your property your assessed value is always increased. You can ask you tax assessor about this. "We have two extra lots that are assessed for $450.00 each and we could not sell them for $400 each. So I say this, that we are not going to have the population boom they claim. I have visited with 90 per cent of the voters in the village of McCullom Lake this year, and many of them are retired and living on Social Security, others are average income earners who make up this country of ours. Everyone that I called on invited me in and we had a swell visit, and the people are the best. Then again there are people that only think you have to go down to vote yes. This is not so, you have to vote either no or yes, but do vote. I,have been swimming in McCullom Lake for over thirty years and have many lifelong friends that I would hate to see get stuck with a lot of extra taxes and bills along with the others. I ask every one to vote no June 13 on the sewer and let's find out more about how 736 people, both adults and children, can afford a load such as this. Many thanks to the McHenry Plaindealer's Public Pulse. "Wilbert K. Hecht "5217 W. Maple Hill Drive "McCullom Lake, Illinois" JULY FOURTH SPIRIT "Dear Editor: "The American Legion certainly appreciates the views ot Donald Kinsala and Annette J. Schmit, but shares quite a different view, possibly because the Legion is better appraised of Legion affairs and expresses the views of the American people. "The 'Spirit of '76" is not a ra-ra team spirit for one day but sinks far deeper in the springs of every intelligent American as a holiday season that does not terminate on the 59th minute of th^g3rd hour. It lasts in every oner?jf6f one day but many. "Apparently Donald Kinsala and Annette J. Schmit are not aware the Legion is a non-profit organization on whose members have defended this spirit in war, and these members who have defended this liberty have returned and joined united to continue to do good. The 'Spirit of '76' is highlighted in the gay lights of a carnival and the spirit of freedom comes to a climax with the firing of fireworks to close the carnival and remind the town that, independence was won by the first patriots and is being defended today by the men of the Legion and other groups who have continued to give. ".John Kaufman" "Public Pulse "Fellow Citizens: "In reference 1o the recent criticism ihat was published in conjunction with tho Fourth of July celebration being on the fifth of .July, I have this to say. I believe the American Legion is being criticized unjustly. The original Declaration of Independence was July 4, 1776, hut hav we as free Americans forgotten how many days and nights were celebrated in reference to that date? "II is one of the many freedoms that we citizens have as free Americans, ihat we may feel free to worship as we please, and to do'anything that we feel is just, and to be wilhin Ihe Constitution of the United States. "In reference to patriotism, we must remember that the American Legion is a war veterans' organization, Ihat those who have served our country did so during Ihe crucial moments of war, so thai wc, As Americans, may be free. "I feel that upon the conclusion of Ihe carnival, whether it be on the Fourth of July or the fiflh, citizens of McHenry and vicinity will enjoy the fireworks as they have in the ^past. "It is not 1o our own benefit that proceeds are used. We must remember that, the American Legion is a non-profit organization and the proceeds from the carnival will, within the year, be disbursed to many charitable groups. "In conclusion, I believe the only proper way to celebrate the Fourth of July is for everyone to go to the church of his choice and to give thanks to Almighly God for those who have fought and died, and to those who lived so that they may go on protecting our country that we may Jive in peace. Franklin Illinois SEEK IMPROVED v DAIRY INCOME THROUGH CHANGES The U. S. Department of Agriculture has issued recommended decisions to revise the Chicago and South Bend milk marketing orders as proposed by Pure Milk association to improve dairy farmer income and marketing conditions. This was reported by A. L. McWilliams, general manager of PMA, who stated that the next steps before the orders take effect are the issuance of final decisions and calling of re l'c rend urns of producers on each market. , The major changes recom- "Dominic Volpendesta "Commander, American Legion Post 491" mended" by the department in Chicago milk marketing order No. 30 are as follows: 1. Provide for two classifications of milk , instead of the present three. Class I milk will Include milk, skim milk, buttermilk, yogurt, flavored milk, flavored milk drinks, sour cream and sour -cream products labeled Grade A. The newly designated Class II will include ice cream, cottage cheese, butter, nonfat dry milk, cheese, eggnog and other manufactured products not designated as Class I. 2. Simplify the methods used in accounting for the utilization of milk by adopting a skim milk and butlerfat basis of accounting in place of the milk equivalent of butterfat method. 3. Change the point of pricing producer milk from the 55- to 70-mile zone to the market.- £*B(8@ Alls®© nping area (all of Cook and Du Page counties and parts of Lake, Kane and Will •--an area which includes proximately 6 million eonsum-:^ ers). This change would mnkep the price quotations for pro%| ducers more comparable with'"- other markets. 4. Revise the provisions Ion. qualifying dairy plants to participate in the marketwidtj pool. 5. Limit the location differential price on Class I milk to 110 percent of Class I sales* Location differentials recognize that the value of fluid milk varies according to distance from market. - 6.
