Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Smith, 3807 N. Spring Grove road, Johnsburg. He was awarded a bachelor of science degree in business ad-ministration. Prior to attending Northwestern, Ron attended Northern Illinois university, where he was 'consistently honored for high scholarship. As a sophomore, he was named a graduation, niarshal. In 1962, he transferred to Norihwestern, where he was awarded a Northwestern university scholarship in addition to ah Illinois state scholarship. He was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma social fraternity, in which he served as president of his pledge class, and as trea surer. Ron was also a member of Beta Alpha Psi, a national a c c o u n t i n g h o n o r a r y . L a s t summer he served as one of Northwestem's delegates to Preview of Adventure in Business which was held at Lake Forest academy. The Preview was a week-long seminar held with top business executives of major corporations. This past fall, Ron served on a student advisory panel at a convention of personnel executives held in Evanston. He was also awarded the trophy as most valuable player in intramural baseball. During this past winter, Ron spent an internship working as a budget analyst in the economic planning department of a leading airlines in Mount Prospect. Ron is currently enrolled in Northwestem's graduate. business school for study toward a master's degree in finance and economics. He was also awarded a Northwestern University scholarship for this program. A total; of 3,484 students received degrees from the University of Illinois in annual commencement exercises Saturday, June 13, in the assembly hall. Included from this area were Donald Leo Schimitt of 2118 Win Milk Day Honors W. Ringwood road and Jaan Laane of 3015 N. Bay View Lahe, McHenry, BS degrees; Katherine Marie Prawl of 2912 N. Shorewood, McHenry, AB degree; Bruce Lynn Gardner of Solon Mills and Richard Alan Johnson of Spring Grove, both BS degrees. The commencement speaker was Prof. W. Albert Noyes, Jr., distinguished chemist at the University of Texas. He received an honorary degree, as did Miss Marian Anderson, famed concert and opera singer, and Mies van der Rohe, internationally known architect. Robert L. Brabanec of McHenry received his doctpr of philosophy degree when the Ohio State university graduating class of 2,721, largest in its ninety-four-year history, received diplomas at spring quarter commencement last Friday in Ohio 'stadium, on the campus. Dr. J. G. Harrar, president of the Rockefeller foundation, New York City, delivered the commencement address. A total of 447 under-graduate students received diplomas from President A. L. Knoblauch on Sunday, June 14, in graduation exercises in Western Illinois university's new $2,100,000 multi-purpose building. Among the graduates was Fred G. Gscheidle and Edward Lewis, Kocmoud, Jr., both of McHenry, who received BS degrees. McHENRY BAND OF TWENTIES Ontario is usually thought of as being £in inland province, yet it has 600 miles of saltwater frontage, and 1,000 of freshwater. BIRD CLUB TO MAKE FIELD TRIP NEXT SATURDAY The McHenry Coiinty Bird club will hold its fieid trip at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Carroil, Jr., on Hidden Lane east of Woodstock, dn June 20. The purpose of this trip is to observe nesting birds, and Mrs. Carroll reports having found several nests. Hidden Lane is the only side road going east off Fleming (Peter fasten & Son "«»«• frienda. MILLSTREAM CLtfB FAMILIES ATTEND STATE CAMP-OUT Three families of the Millstream Campers club were able to attend the all-state campout at Timber Lake park, near Antioch, the weekend of June 12 to 14. . In all, there were 349 families representing the forty-nine Illinois chapters of the N.C.H.A. enjoying the pleasures of outdoor living. Organized games were planned for children and a campfire program, with singing and square dancing. The Illnols contestant was choseh on Saturday for the national convention to be held in Ohio next nld^th. Millstream Campers Were awarded second place prize in the all-state membership drive. The club boasts twenty families in their membership. Plans for a pot-luck supper are in the making and the Woodstock Woodchucks are being invited as guests.
