Thursday, Jim# 2-5. 1964 V f THE McEENRY PLAINDEALEH WONDER LAKE NEWS mary lou haetoo 658-7176 TWO STUDENTS * LEAVE COUNTRY FOR BUMMER STUDY Connie Candella and Sue Tague were among the students from Marian Central high school who were chosen to go to Mexico this summer to teach religion and English to the Mexican children at Vera Cruz. The girls left by jet last Sunday flight and flew to Mexico City. From there they went by bus to Vera Cruz. There were fifteen chosen to take this trip. They pay their own transportation, and their room and board are provided by the council. The Regina Toi^r is arranged for by Sister Alberta Marie of Marian Central. Aside from their work during the summer the group will also enjoy a weekend in Acapulco. The group leaving for France also took off last Sunday to spend the summer attending school there. We certainly hope they all have a perfectly wonderful time and I'm sure they will. some cards sent to her at the hospital will be most welcome. Property Owners Meeting The Wonder Center Property Owners association will have their annual meeting at the Wonder Lake Fire department building on Sunday, July 5, at 1:30 p.m. Of vital interest at this time is the seal-coating of the roads which are in need of immediate repair. All Wonder Center property owners are urgently requested to attend this meeting. Chosen Dairy Princess Pretty blonde Sandra Larson, daughter of the Clarence Larsons, of 6710 McCullom Lake road, was/recently chosen to be a Dairy Princess at the Harvard Milk Day ceiebratidn. Sandra is a 1964 graduate of McHenry high school. She participated in the Milk Day festivities and will appeal on the Farm Program on TV at 6:15 a.m. this Thursday. She will also attend a banquet for the queen and her court on June 30. Good luck to hpr. Hospitalized Rose Simon of 7810 Island Lane underwent surgery last Saturday at Harvard hospital. I'm sure-all of her friends send their very best wishes for a fast recovery and I know that 35th Anniversary Party Maggie and "G" Kellner were two very surprised people on June 7 when a group of friends and relatives decided to stage a surprise party for them at their own home. They were planning on going to the Wiedemanns' for dinner when who should drive up but Jerry and Frank Wiedemann, Betty and Sam Lamont, Cathy and Tom Dockery, Marie and Bill Lamont, Mary Jo and Herb Berry, Ellie and Charlie Bellam, Vera and Harvey Christensen and Maggie's two god-children, Heather Lamont and Patty Grammer. They came complete with food and beverage and just tooH over. The "anniversary kids" weren't permitted to do any work. Marian and Ben Hayes were supposed to be there too but were unabie to attend. The group presented the Kellners with a gift certificate in addition to providing them with a wonderful party. Their actual anniversary was June 1. Many happy returns of the day to both of you and may you have many more nice parties such as this one. Tweren't Me In answer to the people who asked if I had joined the Garden club because of last week's article -- I haven't. The item was sent directly to the paper. Wondervlew Association Two of the newly elected officers of the Wonderview association are donating their spare time down at the beach in an effort to make boat launching easier and safer. At this time, using the road grader, they have managed to make a gradual slope on the hill. It is planned t,o dig out the shore line deep enough to float the boats being launched and set out a floating pier for the boats to dock, leaving the "U" shaped pier for swimming only. This is being done without cost to the association as materials and labor are being donated, with the exception of gas to run the road grader. If any of you boat owners want to help out with this project contact Del Borta at 653-7215 or Art Meyers at 653-6416. Your help will be more than appreciated. Whoops! We Missed One Apologies to Cathy Luciano for not listing her among the junior high graduates last week. It was an oversight. Court Of Honor A very impressive candlelight ceremony was held last Monday evening signifying the Court of Honor of Troop 145. Four Scouts read the introduction, followed by the presentation of the many awards by Sam Lamont, committee chairman, and John Wines, assistant scoutmaster. First Class rating was presented to Robert Bird, James Ruggero, Robert Ruggero, Michael Pickrum, Tim Etzkorn, William Eberle, Donold Sturm and Brian McCafferty. All are members of one of the largest troops in the district and have the distinction of having the highest amount of awards and advancements within the Kishwaukee area. We must give credit to their devoted leaders, John Doherty, Scoutmaster, and John Wines, assistant Scoutmaster, who give so much of their time to work with this great group of boys. The wonderful cooperation of their parents and our own community and the dedicated group of cpmmitteiemen is commendable. Delores Wines was very surprised and honored by the presentation of the scribe award for her contribution in reporting their activities. Movies which were taken by Ralph S\yearingen, a committeeman, Were shown of the past fall and spring camporees. They were like an episode of "Candid Camera" and Scouts and parents alike enjoyed them. The mothers of the Fox patrol served delicious cake, coffe^and cold drinks. ([ Give Neighbors A Break Several residents of Wonderview have asked me to say something about dogs barking all night. This problem is not confined to any specific area by any means. The strange thing about this situation is that the owners of the dogs never seem to be bothered in the least by their dogs howling and barking. Also, it seems that they couldn't care less if the whole neighborhood is kept awake. Keep in mind friend? that your neighbors do not share your devotion arid enthusiasm for your dog if he is a "darned nuisance". How about being a little more considerate of the other fella? Kiwanis Meeting The club members let Art Stuhlfeier pull for the battle ax winner this week and he had a near miss--Art Lau was tne winner." President Floyd called for committee reports. Joe Sullivan will be the chairman of the annual steak vs beans dinner this fall. Lennie Freund will head the bowling sweepstakes in August. Phil Kinzer will be charge of the horseshoe contest. During the Belvidere steakout last week, our group did very well with the horseshoes and the steaks. Our club presented Belvidere with a threefoot gavel which was made by Bob Howe. Unfortunately, the picture taken of the presentation did not come out. F r a n k H i g g i n s w i l l b e i n Hush Puppies" Shoes Featured at 1246 N.
