Around ten o'clock that evening Mr. Arvidson, who resides at 4320 Lakewood Road, noticed flames emerging from his pufrip box which is attached to the side of the building. The result was that he found himself without water or phone service and no near neighbors on either side of him. His shouts for help roused El;?yn> Godina who lives down the road from Mr. Arvidson. Rur.h- . ing from her bedroom s;ie looked out the window and saw flames shooting up the side ,6f his home and immediately called the fire department. Meanwhile other neighbors had also noticed the flames and came running with buckets to try to help Mr. Arvidson extinguish the blaze. John Haley of 4410 Lakewood Road came running with a fire extinguisher and thanks to this, and the quick thinking on Elayne Godina's part, and the very prompt arrival of the fire department upon the . scene, the blaze ' did not get nftich headway. John Boyle To Fill Vacancy President of the village Jake Levesque appointed John Boyle to fill the trustee vacancy caused by the death of Frank Psrkhurst at the last meeting cf the trustees, Monday, June 22. in the bepchhouse. All oilier trustees were present when Mr. Boyle took oath of office. Mr. Boyle ran unsuccessfully for the office of president one year, but served a four year term as trustee so he brings experience to the governing body. Road commissioner Art Stuhlfeier reported that weed-, would be cut along the easements in the village and his task has already been completed. K. H. Mass petitioned the board to consider his road revisal program ani this will be taken under adv'sement by the board. Laurence Anderson requested that a citizen's committee be appointed to work in conjunction with the board cr this matter. Mr. Levesque promised that this would be carried out. The defeat of the recent sanitary disposal plant referendum \y.is discussed bv the .»oard and questions and remarks were accepted from the floor. Attended Bible School Twelve of our local children have been attending Bible School at the- Nativity Lutheran church in Wonder Lake for the past two weeks. They are Patty Murray, Colleen, Linda, Larry and Laura Meyer, David Egerstaffer, Karen, Sandy and Kenny Betts, and Bruce, Roger anT3 Cheryl Thacker. The evening of June 26 was "Parent's Night" and the children presented quite a little program much to the delight of their parents. On display for all to view were their accomplishments from the past two weeks and I understand the parents were pretty proud of their kiddies. During the program the children were presented with beautiful attendance certificates and afterwards refreshments were enjoyed by all. Attention! Dog: Owners There have been numerous complaints made regarding dogs that are allowed to run loose in our village. These animals are a menace to the community and have been damaging property and frightening children. One neighbor has informed me that her garbage cans have been ransacked every night for over two weeks now and she is getting rather exasperated. No one likes to call the police on a friend or neighbor but things are getting out of hand and something should be done to correct this situation. If your dog is picked for running loose in the village you are subject to pay a fine. So please, dog owners, to save yourself time, trouble, and needless expense, keep your pets home where they belong. Farewell To Residents Mr. and Mrs. George Meyer, who have been long time members of the community, moved away last week. Commuting for George has been a problem and they found it necessary to move in a little closer to the city to remedy the situation. Attended Wedding Mr. and Mrs. Ronal Godina, Mr. and Mrs. Terry Jordan, both of West Lane, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Godina of Lakewood Subdivision, attended the wedding of Miss Nancy Godina Saturday, June 27, who exchanged vows with Mr. James Hager. The nuptials took place at St. Patrick's Catholic church in McHenry at 11 o'clock in the morning. Nancy is the daughter of Alphonse Godina of Hillside Drive, Lakemoor, and Mr. Hager hails from Walnut Ridge, Ark. An afternoon reception was held Sunday, June 28, at the Godina residence in Lakenioor and all their relatives and friends joined in wishing them a long and happy married life. Popular Vote For Diana Koch Patrons at the Art Fair voted for the favorite painting on exhibition and first place was awarded to Mrs. Charles (Di; ana) Koch for her painting titled "The Portuguese Fisherman". The painting, which was executed in pastels, was not for sale but the McHenry high senior class of 1964 thought so highly of it that they begged Mrs. Koch to relent and sell it to them. The seniors then presented the painting as a gift to the McHenry high school where it will be on display in the building. Diana is a Wonder Lake art student and the community is proud of her achievements. Looks like we have another Van Gogh or Rembrandt among us. Congratulations Diana, and keep up the good work! Current Hospital Patient Chester (Shorty) Sheriff was a recent patient in the McHenry hospital. While there he underwent some surgery and returned home again on Saturday, June 27. Mr. Sheriff re^ ports that he feels fine now but is still a little weak and very glad to be home. With MrS. Sheriff giving him all that tender loving care he ought to be back on his feet in no time at all. Little League Don't forget that our Little League games are played every Tuesday arid Thursday evening at 9 p.m. at the beach. Managers Gene Johnson, Bill Scheid, Don Lorch and Dick Pickett have been doing a tremendous job with these youngsters and deserve, quite an audience at games to see what good athletes their pupils are becoming. A cheering section also gives quite a boost to the moral of the players. Half the fun of playing is having someone root for your team.
