TO BID The McHenry Township Board of Local Improvements will receive Proposals for reconstructing two and one half (2x/2) miles of road for the subdivision of Sunnyside Estates Unit No. 5, unincorporated, in the Township of McHenry, McHenry County, Illinois. The work comprises the improving of the roads, ditches and road drainage in the subdivision of Sunnyside Estates Unit No. 5 Unincorporated. This is to include grading of the present gravel roads as sub base preparation and reforming of shoulders, embankments drainage, and topping. The judges did a marvelous job, and it must have been a hard one because we certainly have a loj/of lovely girls in McHenry. \Jean Wiles, chairman, and Doris Wetzel and Pat Borcovan, co-chairman, did a terrific job in making all tl\e arrangements to present the contest. Tom Wiles was an excellent m.c. and looked like he enjoyed his job. Several of the past queens were on hand to congratulate the new queen. Those attending were Pat Hogan, Gail Marquart, Bonnie Tomm and Linda Watson. The first official business for Irene Johnson as president of the fifth district VFW auxiliary, was as a judge in the queen contest here at Post 4600. Mrs. Johnson officiated in the last phase of the judging which was the girls in their formals. The other three who did the complete judging were Van Sells, Gordon K. Walter and Judy Wolter. Several members of the post and auxiliary returned from Springfield on Sunday, where they had been attending the department convention since Friday. Among those attending were Post Commander Jim Doran, Auxiliary President Gen Bradley and Roy Bradley, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Groth, Jean Wiles, Daisy Smith, Dora Krocker, Jo Hansen and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Moreth. Mary Murphy attended as chaperone to the Devilaires. The cenvention was interesting and a more complete report will be given at a later date. They came back with a trunk full of trophies for Post 4600. Post 4600 and auxiliary took third place in community service for the department, first place in youth activities and third place in Americanism. The groups sponsored by the post and who received recognition were first place in the state to the Men of Brass the senior drum and bugle corp; first place to the Lakemoor Scouts, boys' unit; third place to Lakemoor Scouts, girls' unit and seventh place to the Dev- Women of the Moose Installation was held last week for the Women of the Moose officers for the year 1964-65. They are junior grad. regent, Olga Johnson; senior regent, Ethel Hagberg; junior recent, Eunice Tobey; chaplain, Elizabeth Walker; treasurer, Ila Hogan; guide, Eileen Hodgeson; assistant guide, Carole Knor; sentinel, Marcelle Carlson; Argus, Carrie Sesko, pianist, Flora Parks. The installation chairman was Nancy Bowman. The Loyal Order of Moose served as escorts. The evening had special significance for Eileen Hodgeson, for besides being installed as guide, the Hodgesons celebrated their twenty-eighth wedding anniversary. THWART ROBBERY An attempted robbery at Gardner's Tavern, Rt. 12, Spring Grove, failed last week when two men armed with a shot gun misunderstood the actions of a customer and fled. In the absence of the tavern owner, they ordered a customer to empty the , cash register. Back of the bar he bent down to hide his own money, the intruders thought he was reaching for a gun and left.
