THE McKEKRY PLAINBEALER Thursday, July 8,MM. MCCULLOM LAKE NEWS CAROL BATEMAN JULY FESTIVAL FEATURES NEW ATTRACTIONS One feature which should attraci a great deal of attention . and public interest at the summer festival, Saturday, July 25, is "dump the sitter", according to general chairman Bill Walter. He announced procurement of the novel attraction at the Cullom-Knoll meetng last Sunday. The device consists of a huge* tank of water with men of the community taking turns at •being target. First to offer his services_ wa's village president, Jake Levesque. Mr. Walter has also volunteered. Chairman of this event Don Lorch also hopes to obtain the services of Gene PiotrowsTkr and Wilbert Hefcht, Jr., a new member of the Cullom Knoll association. For the kiddies' delight,, there will be pony rides. Long lime favprites with the audience are tke bike parade, buggy promenade, and highlight of the festival will be the crowning of "Miss McCullom Lake in the evening. The young Miss will be selected from contestants in the 4-7 year age bracket. Chrys Levesque, first runner up in the Miss Fiesta Queen contest, will handle the details. Rich Johnson will accept entries for the bike parade and no chairman has been selected for the buggy promenade at this writing. The refreshment booth will be in the very capable hands of BoBbl^' ^jid 'Jifri Carroll, noted for their excellent recipe for "sloppy joes"! These and many other features will make this year's festival most noteworthy. 385-5183 Rentschler and alternate delegate Ted Wickman of Pistakee Bay. Last week Mr. Scott announced that Jake Levesque who has been his administrative assistant has been promoted to assistant deputy treasurer. The promotion took effect immediately. Another honor for Jake was being named an elector of president and vice-president of the United States. A cerificate to this effect was received from Secretary of State H. Chamberlain. Notes From The Cullom-Knoll President of the organization Roger Kinsey named a nomina- ^fihgr.commi11ee for the annual election of officers at the Cullom- Knoll meeting held Sun day, July 5, at 3 p.m. The election will be held at next month's meeting and in compliance with the newly revised by-laws. The committee is composed of Rich Johnson, chairman, and Bill Walter and Bonny Egerstaffer. The books will be audited by Bill Walter, Allan McKim and Wilbert Hecht. . Credit was given by Mr. •Johnson to the-teens for the .painting ' Of beach equipment but they did become a bit care- Jess1 "with"' the paint and the brushes. Many many thanks to Jack Schlofner and Ray Lary for the excellent re-wiring job they did to illuminate the basket ball area. They installed underground cable for a safety precaution. The new lighting will be of great aid during the summer festival. The raft has taken a terrific beating this year. The consensus of opinion was that the damage is being done by outsiders using our beach and destroying the equipment. In order to eliminate this hazard, identification cards will be mailed to all residents of the village, and must be presented upon request before use of the beach will be allowed. ONLY residents of the community and their guests are entitled to beach privileges! The next meeting will be held the first Sunday in August. Visit Queen of the Island Mr. and Mrs. Raymond E. De Witt of 5006 West Orchard Drive departed for Madeline Island Thursday, July 2. They visited Mrs. DeWitt's aunt, Gram Johnson, who is known as Queen of the Island. Madeline Island is a small island in Lake Superior, off the coast of Bayfield, Wis. Many years ago, Mrs: DeWitt's grandfather settled the island and operated a hardware store on its shores. He also did a little farming and raised some cattle. Eevrything was just fine until they discovered that the Indians in the area weren't too friendly. In fact they not only raided his hardware store but swiped his cattle as well. But grandfather and his family took off in hot pursuit after them and managed to recover all their property. The Lndians then agreed to a truce and bestowed the title of "Honorary Chief of the Island" to grandfather and his descendants. And the family has been held in great esteem to this day. Traveling with Mr. and Mrs. DeWitt were Mr. and Mrs. Louis Lennox of Crystal Lake The fouresome returned home Sunday night, July 5. home on High street in Edgebrook Heights.
