[New Records Written In Wilmot Stocks Jim Sullivan of Antioch, Illinois ended four weeks of bad luck at the Kenosha County Speedway in Wilmot to win the 25 lap feature in record time as well as break the old lap track record. In both cases, he lowered his own previous marks. ' The track was in superb condition and in all five new track records were set. In the time trials, seven laps were turned in faster than the one year old mark of 18.01 seconds. Sullivan's time was i7.59 seconds for an average speed of 56.85 mph. It marked the first, lap ever turned on the track in less than 188.00 secondhand already fans and drivers are looking forward to the first 60mph circuit. Behind Sullivan in the feature were Kenny Tolugan, Terry Vaughn, Bob Strunk and Duane Harris. The feature race was halted on the first lap when Bill Bohn broke a torsion bar and sprun causing six other cars to tangle. All but Bohn and Kenny Heiden were able to restart. Terry Vaughn took the lead but lost it to Bill Ansell who then slowed and dropped out. Sullivan fought hard for each position and finally passed Vaughn at the midway point. Ed Pensalek, Fran Seamars, Bill Strom, and Bohn were 10 lap heat race winners with Fran Seamars setting the first new 10 lap record only to have Strom take it away in the next heat. Seamars then came back and won the 15 lap semi and set a new record in this race. Ron Larson of Racine flipped over several times after going up and over Bohn's rear wheel in the fourth race. Ilis car was a total loss but Larson was OK. Bill Swantz of Union Grove, Wisconsin won his third spectator car race in a row as he also took the second 8 lap heat race for the fender benders. Although there was a small delay of starting the game, the boys played a beautiful game of ball. Rochelle took the first game by 6 to 4. Rochelle was ahead by 4 runs in the first 3 innings, but our boys came back in the fourth to tie them up with 4 runs. Rochelle then in the 6th got a boy on base and Peck came up to hit a home run. With our McHenry boys losing they surely didn't lose their spirit. Sunday's first game at McHenry VFW grounds saw our All Stars win over Rochelle 5 to 2. The first 3 innings Domoto pitched a no hitter, striking out 5 and walking 2 boys. Martin then came on in the 4th to pitch 3 innings. Martin struck out 4 boys, walked 1 and gave up 2 hits. In the 7th, Mereness came in and struck out 2, walked 1 and allowed 1 hit, a home run by Peck from Rochelle. Second game saw our boys win again from Rochelle 6 to 3. In the first inning Rochelle got 3 runs, but saw our boys come back in the fourth inning with 4 runs to go ahead. Allemeg and Peck from Rochelle hit home runs and Reinbolt from McHenry hit one. Demoto struck out 10 boys in 6 innings and walked only 1 boy. Martin came in to pitch the 7th inning and struck out 2 boys and gave up 1 hit. The boys of McHenry all played beautifully and did a wonderful job. The official umps did a wonderful job and no partiality was shown on either side. The people in Rochelle welcomed us with friendliness and made us and the boys feel right at home. The boys were all well behaved and both the teams showed good sportsmanship in all three games. It surely is a wonderful feeling to see you parents and friends come to watch and cheer the boys on for a victory and to see you all cheer the opposing team make a wonderful play or even hit a homerun. What a wonderful game baseball is. - Next Saturday, August 1st will see our All Stars in Rockford for the first of three games. The garrie will be played at 8:00 p.m. on the Gale Field. Sunday, August 2nd will find our boys being host to Rockford for a double header. The game Sunday will start at 1:00 p.m., so you good people of McHenry come out to the VFW grounds and watch and cheer our boys on for another victory.
