Terrace Tidings Marie and William Kern became proud grandparents again on Tuesday when son, Richard, and his wife of Wheaton became parents of a baby girl, Jocqleen, their third child, second girl. The Don Zamastil family spent another weekend camping, this time at Richland Center, Wis. Every member of the family had the honor of catching at least one rainbow trout during the outing with the exception of baby Dart of course.. One of the trout was caught with just a twig, line and hook which one of the Zam boys had found lying by the water. Visiting in Lake Elizabeth, Wis., on Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Hank Kurowski were the Anthony Kurowski family. George and Wilma Stader returned this week from a three week vacation in Minnesota. They spent the first week at Leech Lake in the Federal Dam area fishing and another ten days at St. Cloud, visiting with Wilma's mother and other relatives. Visitors at the Ed Weiss home during the past week include Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hendrickson, Melrose Park, Sunday, Mr., and Mrs. Roy. Hendrickson, Elmwood, Tuesday, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Gabel and family, Berkeley, Wednesday. Sunday dinner guests at the Russell Parker home were Mr. and Mrs. Paul Stolberg and family, Mundelein. Visiting in McHenry at the Williard flillman home for the past two weeks was Sola's son, William Walters, from St. Jude's Mission, S. C. Ron and Marilyn Wiggerman spent a busy day Saturday first picnicking at Duck Lake Woods with a group of fourteen couples and an evening of dancing in Barrington with another gettogether of six couples. Birthday Greetings Many happy returns of the day to our only three birthday celebrants this coming week; Dolores Kurowski, who will be three and Joy Vyduna, a big six years old, August 8, and Keith Mierzwa, August 10. Thoughts In Passing The Pistakee Terrace Women's auxiliary will meet next Thursday evening, August 13. Place of meeting will be published next week. Like a broken record we repeat, tickets are avialable for both the August 29 Rescue Squad as well as our own dance, Sept. 19 from Birdie Deppmeier. It's hard to believe but for some reason the last week in July seems to have brought misfortune to several of our residents. We have a mother hopping around with a broken toe, a working man mending ten stitches in his arm due to an accident on the job and several of the children under the weather with illnesses. Upper respiratory infections have gone thru the Pritchard family with the exception of Donna, also on the list is Lance Toepper and an ear infection has Scott Wiggerman on the roll as well. Hope this type of thing confines itself to that one week. Summer is no time to get sick. The other afternoon I thought I was hearing things as the strains of Jingle Bells drifted in thru the window. However with a little checking I understand it was only a rehearsal for a play to be put on at a later date by two of the Kurowski children and two of the Pritchard family. As a summer past time for these kids they write a production and perform in front of neighbor friends for a small fee. Future Thespians have we? COUNTY RETARDED GROUP STUDIES WORKSHOP IDEA Last week four members of the McHenry County Association for Retarded Children were guests of Donald Edwards, director of the workshop in the School of Hope, Rockford. Mrs. William Pierce, McHenry, Mrs. Edward Blakslee, Crystal Lake, Mrs. Ida Sauter, Crystal Lake, and Frank Prem, McHenry, were given a tour of the school buildingworkshop Which opened in 1949. This is a complete facility, operated by a parent group, to serve mentally handicapped from pre-school age to those in employment in the i ^workshop. Twenty-seven young people between the ages of 16 and 32 are gainfully employed there. Mr. Edwards, an enthusiastic young college physical education graduate, is supervisor of the employees in a five-day work week, with industrial jobs leading to pay day each Friday. The McHenry County association members are surveying such school-workshop operations as this one. to formulate plans for a building to serve McHenry county mentally retarded people. The association, under the direction of Russell Switzer as president, will welcome new members and volunteers to help attain such a goal. Any questions may be directed to the association at Box 74, Wonder Lake, or a phone call to Mrs. William Pierce, 385-1238. Legab Common sense is simply & Shrewd measure of what is possible or likely.
