The first was given at the Chuck Miller home, with eighty-three in attendance. Hostesses were Helen Harth, "Cookie" Stompanato and Shirley Lieser; A tasty buffet lunch was served to the many friends and relatives of Miss Bauer who attended. The second shower took place at the Johnsburg Community club and was an afternoon social event. Hostesses were Dorothy Bauer, Georgia Bauer. LuAnn Smith and Kay Bauer. Sixty-three persons enjoyed games and an appetizing lunch. Frank Kempfer, Sr., Honored On Birthday On Sunday, Aug. 2. a party was held for Frank Kempfer, Sr., on the occasion of his eightieth birthday anniversary. The celebration was at the home of his daughter and sonin- law, Mr. and Mrs. Fred J. Simon, in Chicago. To help celebrate his birthday were his grandchildren, Kathy and Barbara Simon, Debbie, Mike and Joey Kempfer. His grandson, A1 Kempfer, was unable to attend as he is serving in the United States Navy. Kempfer, Mrs. Marie Vales and son, A1 and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Glosson. His daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Don A. Thatcher, from Reseda, Calif, were unable to join the family party. Mr. Kempfer was born on July 28, 1884, in Gosham, Hungary. As a young man of 21, he came to the United States and settled in Chicago. He married and raised a family and ilved many years in that city before moving to Johnsburg, and then to McHenry. At the present time he resides in Ring-wood. In 1896 he became a barber and has been engaged in this work for sixty-eight years. He still works in this occupation. , Mr. Kempfer received many cards and gifts which made this the most enjoyable birthday of his lifetime. I|ridal Shower Honors Judy Phannenstill A miscellaneous bridal shower was held recently at the home of Frances Mayfield in honor of Judy Phannenstill. Asssiting Miss Mayfield were the other bridesmaids in the wedding party, Nancy Buckner, Janice May, Ruthie Granger and Joyce Phannenstill. Trudy Freund of McHenry acted as maid of honor for Miss Gorgo, and bridesmaids were Linda Gorgo of LaGrange Park, cousin of the bride, Diane Miller of Richmond, Ann Sperandio of Wonder Lake and Denise Mascari, sister of the groom. All were attired similarly in floor length gowns of blue silk organza and carried nosegays of carnations. Dave Freund served as best man and groomsmen were Bill Gorgo, a cousin of the bride. Jack Walsh, friend of the groom, and Bob Colantonio cousin of the groom. Mrs. Gorgo selected for her daughter's wedding a pink silk organza dress with matching accessories. Mrs. Mascari was attired in a turquoise dress and the same colored accessories. A reception followed the ceremony at the V.F.W. clubhouse for 225 guests. The young couple will make their home in Arlington Heights. The bride is a 1963 graduate of the McHenry high school. The groom, a 1958 graduate of M.C.H.S., attended Northern Illinois State and Elgin Junior college and had served two years in the Navy, stationed on the East Coast. Plan Anderson Family Reunion For the first time in nine years, all of the eleven members of the John Anderson family will be together for their annual reunion in McHenry. Latjart, director of the Catholic Charity bureau of the Chicago archdiocese, preached the sermon. The novices had prepared for their first profession through a year of intensified study and prayer. Having vowed to live for three years according to the rule of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, the Sisters will now continue religious life in the Juniorate, a two-year training period for the active apostolate. During the first year of further spiritual and educational formation, the newly professed will remain at Notre Dame of the Lake.
