The feature race had to be restarted twice after a second go on the start when Duane Harris of McHenry spun out and hit the infield fence just before the cars crossed the finish line -at-4he-en4-of-4ap-one, The close battle between Jim Sullivan of Antioch, Illinois and Rodger Otto of Burlington, Wisconsin for point lead from the deadlock tie at the end of races last week, soon broke on time trials tonight as Jim Sullivan twice waved off fast time and then spun on his third effort. Rodger Otto who had set fast time and then'lost it to Jim Lawrence, wound up second fastest and went ahead by three points. Sullivan, who qualified for and won the first heat rftcfe picked up enough points to again tie Otto but Otto came back and took a second in his heat that put him ahead to stay for the night. Sullivan was in a good position to stay close with a win in the feature but spun uut. f; Otto was sixth in the featurg. Heat race winners were Jim Sullivan; Bay Darnell; George' Uttech; and Bill Bohn. Darnell also won the wild scramble in the 15 lap semi feature race as1 many cars took the collision coursc and did not finish. So mqny of them in fact, that in spite of a complete spin around by Darnell in the semi feature start, that he was still able to recover and be the winner. In the spectator cars wher& the battle for point lead is equally tight, a new driver making his first appearance at the track won the first heat after Gill Rein of Woodstock flipped. Allen Gutchee of Kenosha won the second heat race and Roger Haggie of Antioch won the feature race. THIRD ANNUAL NIWGA Mil! AT LOCAL ££ ICE BREAKER DAY AT CHAPEL HILL COUNTRY CLUB A day of fun was held at the Chapel Hill Country Club by the members and guests. Among the events were a long driving contest for men and women as well as a hole in one contest and Medal and Peoria Handicap tournaments. The grounds were decorated with stalks of bananas hanging from the trees and watermelons, bomber sandwiches ahd beer were given away on the golf course. A buffet dinner, entertainment and dancing followed the golf outing. Such a good time was had by all that a demand was made to hold another event on the same order in the near future. Earl Stephens, of Wauconda, a long time top ranking amateur along the North Shore, set a new course record at the Chajiel Hill Country Club, shooting a sixty-seven. Earl blistered par on five holes, and took a double bogie on only one I hole. This score is considered | as the course record because of j the changes that were made on i the course, by Pro Managers I Julie Goffo and A1 Favelli, who i have been operating the club 1 since former owners, Dr. and | Mrs. Milton L. Smith, have I come back into jxjssession of I the Chapel Hill Country Club. Hole In One Denise Koch, our little bowling star from Johnsburg, has now set her eye on new fields to conquer. Userng a number five iron on the one hundred and forty yard0 tenth hole at Chapel Hill Country Club, she lofted the ball into the air and carried all but twenty yards of the distance, and the ball never left its original line and ran into the hole. The shot was witnessed by Julius Goffo, club professional and a number of other players. Chairman Bob Milton called for caucuses of five miluites, one of which lasted for rorty-thre e minutes, which proved vastly disturbing to the McHenry delegation. When the roll was called on the first ballot, the tally read 59 for Dixon, 15 for Clever,, and 37 for Singer with one abstention. Mr. Levesque announced 44 plus votes for Cooney. Seventy-eight or more for one candidate was required for nomination. After an interminable caucus by the Lake county delegates, they cast all votes in favgr of Dixon on the second ballot and McHenry ma,<Je it unanimous, hoping the second judge to be named would be Cooney.. When Geiger withdrew in favor of Singer, h^ fOf), ;received unanimous acclaim - and Lake county named two judges for the November ballot. " Before the convention recessed, Mr. Levesque admonished the Lake County Central committee to work as haro for the election of Republican judges next November as they had worked for their nomitjgtion. Dixon and Singer will oppose Democrat Judge Phillip Yeager in the fall election. A convention of the McHenry County Republican Central committee has been called for Wednesday, Aug. 19, in the Court House annex at 8 p.m. for nominating a resident-associate judge for the 19th Judicial Circuit and to transact other business.
