"Vi8*1 '-.-W-.tej Augtist 20. 1SS4 THE McHEKHT PLAINDEALEH SuNiYSiDE ESTATES FRAN OLSBN 885-5740 CHICAGO COUPLE MOVE TO ESTATES AND LOVE IT HERE "We just love it here," beams Sally Segerstrom, "It's such a cute area." -- Words of happiness from one of our newest residents. Kenneth and Sally Segerstrom are the proud owners of the first of the new group of homes that are gracing the Estates. From an apartment in Chicago they came to 4401 North Mayfair Drive, with their family of two: six year old Steven and five month old Carol. Ken is a carpenter who is employed in the Arlington Heights area and enjoys doing extra carpentry' around the house. Sally thoroughly enjoys cooking, gardening and reading aside from her motherly duties, and they share their swimming and fishing interests-- time permitting. Glad to have you among our numbers, Segerstroms. Road Respects As the road work commences, SEHOA president Jim Leahy wishes to pay special tribute to the men^who worked so hard with him toward the program's inception: Red Davis, Earl Fry, Ray Bieschke, Ted Bierchen, Herb Rose, Gene Urbanski, Mel Simmons, Harold Palmer, Jack Kelso and Stan Walczynski. The rank and file residents add their gratitude to you men. Sound the trumpets and greet the graders! NOTE: There is still time to call Mel Simmons if you wish your driveway paved: he'll need to know the size of the area you wish paved, so take that measurement before you call. Wishing Well Wishes . . . t o G u n n a r J o h a n s e n w h o underwent surgery at McHenry hospital this past week. Emma reports he is doing nicely. That's good to hear. Take care, Gunnar. Anxious to see you out walking Due Who? What due who? Who do due? Residents do owe SEHOA dues. To? SEHOA treasurer, Jean Gerke at 1814 W. Grandview. Drop in today, as the ads say, -- or mail your check^anytime, like now. Who overdue -- not you (?) Deepest Sympathy . . . from all the residents of the Estates to Florence Kanter on the death of her father: John Lucheck passed away in a Chicago hospital on July 14, after a brief illness. At such a time, words are so lacking; Our prayers will take their place. Vacation Varieties The Fiedler Family spent six marvelous days in the Dells at the new home of old neighbors, the lovely, comfy motel which the James Krzyzaks (formerly of Indian Ridge) purchased earlier this year. Hospitality reigned; the honeymoon suite for Eleanor and John and a cottage for their boys. On the night of the Fiedlers sixteenth wedding anniversary, Grace and Jim surprised them not only with a small party, but also with a special gift: a vacuum cleaner (a token of deep appreciation for helpful favors when the two families were neighbors.) Feelings of joy and gratitude, overwhelmed them all. "It was the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me," says Eleanor. In addition to all that, the Fiedlers "saw all of the Dells" exccpt the Indian dances and the boat ride, which they are saving for their Autumn trip. The Wegener family spent two weeks visiting Keith's parents in Tomahawk, Wis., and other relatives in Merrill and Antigo. On the farm Steve was fascinated by the egg-laying process, and the lamb that cousin Jimmy raised for the local fair was as playful with the Wegner children as it was with beloved Jimmy. The tractor rides for fun for all. Keith and Kathy proved to be the prize berry pickers during the family's two day stay at the cottage of Keith's,, parents. The trip to the Lincoln County Fair was one ride after another, you might say, as the children did try each one. Helen particularly enjoyed the home sewn clothes and the children's art exhibit, which she described as "surprisingly imaginative." Well, the Olsen family did manage to fit in a few clothes, etc ... in that jam-packed trunk, and were outfitted in every aspect for visiting brother, Howard, and his family in Minneapolis for a few days of family fun and some night life. One club served beer "by the yard" or "half yard"--yes, the "glass" (which resembled a piece of chemistry apparatus) had its own special floor stand. The children so enjoyed the company of their cousins, that they almost hated to depart for a cottage in Wisconsin--almost, but not quite. Fishing in the Chippewa Flowage paid off for Daddy and Ernie (10 walleye) but Kim and Erik disappointingly lost their strikes. Mother's fishing was a howl (see below). Badminton, swimming, and cards occupied the non-fishing hours. Lovely weather, relaxed time. The Long and Short Of It How can anemic, scrawny plants produce limb-breaking bumper crop tomatoes and voluptuously healthy ones bear but a few?? For a real howl, stroll around 1915 W. Oakleaf drive! Comin' and Goln' The last two weekends proved very entertaining for the Palmer family, especially the children. This past weekend was spent at the McHenry County fair. It was very thrilling and rewarding for Cathy, who in the cooking class had entered a banana loaf; and for Sherwood, who through his photography class was able to display his photos. The midway, thrill show and food kept everyone humming. The dairy barn enabled Larry and Marty to get an eye-to-eye cow-view (did you have the camera ready, Sherwood?) and to observe the milking process using the very latest apparatus. No insomnia in the Palmer family that night. The weekend before was spent at an old fashioned picnic sponsored by the company that employs Marge. It's an annual affair (ai Fox River Grove) with everything to keep the children occupied completely. Swimming, games, and complete use of a kiddie park -- all free, plus ice cream and pop. In spite of a few upset tummies, the perennial question, "Can I have just one more ride?" A swinging Dixieland jazz band got the adults in the groove for some singing and a Charleston contest. They were a weary and hoarse but happy group that night. The Noah family tobk a jaunt up to Milwaukee on the 12th to view the new zoo and then take a tour of the local brewery: short tour, good brew (the important part). A visit with some friends that night in Milwaukee. Last Sunday the Noah family were the guests of La- Verne's brother for dinner at his Chicago apartment. Conversation piece of the day? A lovely rock garden he created in one corner of his bedroom (yes, indoors) -- with Sunnyside Estates rocks! (Did you rake off an agent's fee for each rock he took, LaVerne?) Anniversary Activities Double celebrations for double numbers: two events for the Hoettels thirty-third anniversary^ On the 25th Claire and Howard hosted their daughter and her family (the George Ballards of Western Springs) and the Al Stephens (from across the street) for a cook-out, which Howard and daughter, B o b b e, expertly cheffed, Then on their actual anniversary date, the first, the Hoettels and Stephens enjoyed a- quiet dinner at a local restaurant. George and Millie Kropf were treated to dinner at the Country Club on their anniversary, the tenth, by Millie's sister and mother who are the Kropfs' house guests for a couple of weeks. Something special: a heart shaped anniversary cake baked for them by Judy Walczynski. Sweet thought. * Happy Birthday Today to seven year old David Noah and to Marlene Berg. Tomorrow to six year old Joe Martinez, Jr., to Bernice to Andy Sabby, and to Olson. On the 22nd to Billy Walczynski who will be six years old. On the 24th to fourteen year old Mike Mikkelsen. On the 26th to Lillian Jensen and 'to Cynthia Sperl. May your day be merry and bright. HOLIDAY HILLS NEWS INEZ YOUNG 885-4672 LASKOWSKIS SEE DAUGHTER RECEIVE COLLEGE DEGREE Joan and Lou Laskowski are bursting with pride these days and justly so. On Thursday, Aug. 6, they saw their daughter, Judy, receive her Bachelor of Science degree in education from Northern Illinois University at DeKalb. Judy has specialized in teaching the mentally handicapped and will be teaching at Woodstock's Clay street school. She has been dedicated to this work for sometime, even spending her summers at a camp for mentally handicapped. We are extremely proud to say she is from Holiday Hills and send our congratulations and very best wishes for a future filled with the satsfaction that only comes from helping others. Our weather this summer has been, to put it lightly, most unusual. It has either been so hot that you can't spend too much time outside, or it has vacationeer and spouse decided to go down to do a little nocturnal fishing just off the edge of the dock. After casting for quite some time, and they just lazily holding the poles awhile, it was decided there were no fish in the vicinity just now, so "let's reel in and go back to the cabin." As this ace-fisherwoman ' began to reel in: "Hey, honey, I think I've got something--oh, look,--m'gosh, what what do I do now--come here: it's getting stubborn -- look how the pole is bent --" Husband comes to the rescue, What was wifey's prize catch? the dock!!!! been so cold that you have to put on an extra sweater or two. This weather has played havoc with our swimming lessons this year and put them way behind schedule. Weather permitting the last three lessons should be held on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. If the lessons were completed, a list of the certificates and awards will be in next week's column. Keep your fingers crossed for good weather or we may have to finish up this year's lessons next year. Woman's Club The Holiday Hills Woman's Club was held on Wednesday, Aug. 12, at the home of Vi Abbink. Elaine Schmitt, our program chairman for a year and a half, resigned because she is moving. Our thanks to her for a job well done and our very best wishes to the ^Schmitt family in their new home. The new program chairman for the club is Dot Gabriel, who, I am sure, will do a fine job. Hostesses for the evening were Jo Janik, Connie Cantanzaro and Ellen Erickson. The women decided that three hostesses would be sufficient from now on. Squadron Reunion Hal and Gerry Breede traveled up to Minnesota last week for the annual reunion of Hal's air force squadron from World War II. Junior Girl Scouts Helen Perkins will be the troop leader of the junior Girl Scouts for the coming year. This includes girls in the Legal MASTER IN CHANCERY'S SALE OF REAL ESTATE STATE OF ILLINOIS ) )SS COUNTY OF McHENRY) IN THE CIRCUIT COURT THEREOF IN CHANCERY GEN NO. 64-1540 FIRST FEDERAL SAV-) INGS AND LOAN AS-) SOCIATION OF ELGIN,) an association organized and) existing under the laws of) the United States of Amer-) ica, ) , Plaintiff,) vs. ) EARL C.
