Each woman who attended was presented with a beautiful gold corsage. The guests enjoyed hot beef sandwiches, potato salad and many other salads, cake, coffee and other beverages, Leo and Lil received many lovely gifts and cards from the many folks who attended. Among the guests everyone was so happy to see were Reverend Stewart Smith and his wife, Florence, and their three daughters from Chicago, Reverend Smith was the pastor of Mount Hope Methodist church," being replaced by Reverend Doenecke. We all were most happy to hear that Reverend Smith has been appointed to the Mandell Methodist church at 5000 West/Congress street in Chicago, r Other guests came from Chicago, Fox Lake, Deerfield, and the Highlands. Jack and Connie Zanin and Dorothy's sister, Gola MacDonold, helped serve and make the guests welcome. It was a very beautiful affair and Leo and Lil looked just beautiful and they were deeply touched by the folks who took time out to call on them. Mount Hope Methodist Church Notes At the Aug. 23, services, Dolores Gregg was organist, Noel Gregg, lay reader, Laura pregg, candle lighter. Greeters were: Pearl and James Sweet. The sermon delivered by Rev. Doenecke was entitled "Live Electrically", Thursday, Aug. 27 "House cleaning of the church". The women met at 9 a.m. and got busy cleaning the church from top to bottom. The men of the parish have been keeping the church grounds in good order and it is a credit to our community. The women have been keeping the flower beds on the church grounds looking beautiful. Aug. 30, 11 a.m. Morning Worship service and Sunday School was combined for Promotion Day. Teachers for the new year were installed . The Fall Quarter will begin •with new curriculum in the Children's Division. -- Christian Studies For Methodist hildren. The teacher is 9/10 pf the curriculum. Rev. Doenecke spoke on the topic, "The Teacher". The children's choir sang. There was no regular Sunday school at 9:45 a.m. Regular classes will resume Sept. 6. Coming Events The Blessed Virgin Sodality bake sale will be held after all Masses Sunday, Sept. 6. All women members of the Highlands are asked to bring baked goods for this sale. Tonight the Holy Name Society of St. John's will meet at 8 p.m. at the Johnsburg community center. Sept. 8, the Blessed Virgin Sodality meets at 8 p.m. All of the women of the parish are asked to bring a can of canned goods to this meeting. If you are not a member of the Sodality and will not be attending the meeting you may bring your canned goods to any Sodality member. You may drop it off at the homes of Betty Zenner and Kay Sielisch and to Jean Tomsa in Sunnyside and we shall be most happy to take them to the meeting for you. The Women's Society of Christian Service of the Mount Methodist church holds their meeting at 8 p.m. in the church hall. Saturday evening, Sept. 19, at 8 p.m. there will be a square dance at the Spring Grove school, sponsored by the Woman's Society of Christian Service. Tickets may be attained from members or at the door. Saturday evening, Sept. 26, at 8 p.m. A "Book Review" will be given by Mrs. Ruth Fender of Park Ridge, to benefit Mount Hope church. This will be held at the Whispering Hills recreation center. Due to Labor Day falling on the regular monthly meeting date the Women's auxiliary, Unit 703, of the Lake Regions Post, the meeting date has been set for Sept. 14 at 8 p.m. Aug. 27 Joyce Heir and Anna May CampbeLl were escorts for the annual/W^- trip for the boys at Dowrtey hospital. They stopped at a famous hamburger drive-in and bought hamburgers and cokes for the boys. Charlotte Reed of Round Lake furnished all the boys with candy to eat on the bus trip. Rabbi's Control Officer Asks Full Cooperation McHenry cCounty Rabbi's control officer Edward Jelenik asks that all Pistakee Highlands residents please keep their dogs confined to their own property. Now that school is soon to start he asks that dogs be kept at home and not be allowed to molest children on their way to and from the bus stop. It seems dog owners are getting careless about keeping their dog9 at home once again and complaints are being called in to his office. Cystic Fibrosis Fund Drive Hazel Morley has been named chairman of the annual cystic fibrosis fund drive from Sept. 1 to 15. Hazel is busy getting all her volunteer workers lined up for the drive and let's hope the Highlands makes a big showing for this very worthy cause. News Of Your Friends And Neighbors Aug. 22, Arthur and Clara Ernst spent the day in Des- Plaines, at the home of their daughter and husband, Helen and Fred Rise, for a huge birthday celebration honoring six family birthdays. The Ernsts stayed until Monday and returned home to get busy in the yard. Over the Labor Day weekend the Ernsts will entertain their children and families for the last picnic of the season. Joe Hanisch enjoyed a week's vacation last week, and Kot caught up on a lot of chores around the house and taking life easy. Ray and LaVerne Madock arrived from Buffalo, N. Y., Aug. 31, to spend their vacation with LaVerne's parents, the Dennis family, and with their daughter and family, Bob and Marilyn Van Zevern. While they are here they will attend a big birthday celebration with all the members of the family for their grandson Skinny (Mark) Van Zevern Sept. 4, when Skinny marks his eleventh birthday. Best wishes go to Juergen Thode who enlisted in the Army Aug. 25 and left Aug. 31 for Fort Knox, Ky., for his basic training. He will study Radar. Aug. 24, Audrey Morin drove to Chicago to pick up her sister, Jackie Piotrowski, and daughter, Lyla Jeanne, and they spent a week in the Highlands with the Morins and Jackie, who has made many friends in the Morin neighborhood, enjoyed visiting with them too. Ruth Petrov's mother, Mrs. Witte of Chicago, returned home Aug. 21 after spending five weeks in Los Angeles, Calif., visiting with relatives and friends, Ruth and Steve and their children, Jeanne and Steve, drove to Chicago to spend the weekend with her. Steve stayed at grandma Witte's for a few days. Jim Dyson's mother was released from McHenry hospital, Aug. 26, and is coming along very well. Aug. 29, the Schuringas held a big family and friend birthday party for their daughter, Leslie, who will be seven years old Sept. 1, Leslie, received oodles of beautiful gifts to keep her happy a long time. Many friends from their old neighborhood were on hand for event. Dale and Larry Morin spent a few days in Chicago with their grandparents, the senior Morins. This was their last big fling before school starts and the grandparents made it one to remember. Last week Carl Haefliger spent the week in Buffalo, N. Y., on company business. While he was gone Blanche kept busy. Aug 25, she and Anna Cohrs spent the day in Elgin, shopping and having lunch, the rest of the week her neighbors kept her company. Congratulations are in order for Margaret Andrews whose son, Warren, will soon be marm I I s t r e a ried to Jeanne Kelly of Chicago at a Nuptial Mass at St. John's church in September. Bill Skinner, a former Pistakee Highlands home owner and now of Pasadena, Calif., came to Chicago to attend $ funeral of a relative and Aug. 21, he called on his friends in the Highlands, the Haefligers, Ullos, Trents, Fletchers and Misavices. Everyone was happy to see Bill looking so well and happy. Aug. 25 Hank and Betty Zenner and children drove to Wheeling to pick up their two sons, Joe and Jim, who had spent two weeks witW their Aunt Peg Zenner ana their grandparents, the senior Zenners I of Glenview. Betty and the children spent the day with Peg knd Hank spent the day doing! caulking for his parents. Sunday, Aug. 30, the Zenners spentj the day in Wheeling with HankTs brother and wife to help colebrate- 'their nephew and godchild, Sean Zenner's first birthday. Jim and Jane Malek and their three daughters enjoyed a five day camping trip at the Niagara Falls Parkway on the Canadian side. They enjoyed all the lovely sights of the area. They are dreading the end of summer that will bring the end to their camping trips. Danny Sabielny was a happy little boy Aug. 25 when his aunt Mildred and uncle Eddie Eckhardt of Chicago and his uncle Eddie Sabielny of Chicago came out to spend the day with him for his fifth birthday, Danny received many wonderful gifts plus a big tricycle. During the day many friends from the Highlands stopped in to wish him a happy birthday and present him with a little gift. Aug. 30, Joe and Lorraine Ullo and son drove their daughter, Linda, back to Mount Saint Francis Convent in Rockford, where Linda resumes her studies. Linda really enjoyed her stay home and spent many days with the Nuns at St. John's convent. Bob and Kenny Fletcher returned to college in Tennessee Aug. 31. Both boys are doing very well in college and aire studying hard. Friends and former neighbors of Ginny Thoren who now lives in Oak Park are very happy to hear Ginny is home and doing real well after extensive surgery. Kay Reilly went in one day to see Ginny. I am sorry to report thai Peter Cunningham underwent surgery Aug. 27 to correct a very serious condition at St. Therese hospital where he has been a patient for two weeks. A baby kitten that was staying around my home for two days now h£te a home. Georgie Hanisch took the kitty home with him and he spent one whole day going around to see if any one owned the kitty and since he could not find the owner he is taking care of it and giving it a home, thus making both very happy. Ray and Sadie Cunningham enjoyed having their son, Bobby, spend two weeks with them, Bobby loves to come to the Highlands where he has many friends and he gets in a lot of fishing. There is a wave of gas siphoning in the Highlands, and all the folks without garages are buying gas locks. It has hit most every where "in the Highlands and our block had three cars nearly drained. Phil and Glenda Weick entertained Rev. Stewart Smith and his wife, Florence, and their three daughters for a big supper Aug. 22. They are old friends and the Wieoks were so happy to see them back in the Highlands and they wart thrilled to hear Rev. Smith la doing so well in Chicago. Our neighbors in Whisper* ing Hills have formed an as* sociation with Joseph Gregg serving as president. Dues have been set for six dollars a year and the new association has filed for charter papers and plans for the success of the association is in full swing. We wish them much luck. Aug. 26 Milt and Betty Croasdale entertained company from Milwaukee and they en* joyed a nice drive around the area. Young Miltie was home for the day too.
