taction Two -- Page Eight THE BfeHEHBY PLAINDEALEK Thursday# September 10» 1964 SUNNYSIDE ESTATES FRAN OLSEN ROAD REPAIRS PROGRESS THROUGH CLOUDS OF DUST THEY'RE HERE! In the flesh and in the steel: graders, workers, trucks, and tools. It's like a misty dream being freed from its engulfing cloud and slowly but clearing drifting to destinct reality. It's all this dust that helps create .that illusion! But how sweet it is to know that this is our one FINAL dust problem. Quite seriously, hats off to all the men (both workers and supervisors) for their conscientious labor and thoughtful courtesy The workers' friendly waves and cheerful comments to the children are making this project even more fun for them to observe. Extra caution to keep our children out of the Work areas is but a fitting corollary to their consideration. The men can not always see every inch of ground around the equipment they are handling. Prevent accidents by watching from a DISTANCE. Stay out of and away from the culverts. A little extra care can make the installation of our roads a happy as well as an interesting experience. Full speed ahead! -- Aud that's just the speed they seem to be going. Good show. Paved driveway, anyone? Call Mel Simmons with the measurements handily held in your other hand. Note: one half of each road will be open at all times, end of doubts. Welcome Williamses The Williams family hasn't yet lived in their View home two full weeks and already they feel quite at home--for two good reasons, they were remarkably well settled and organized even the day after their move, and since both Jim and Pat have lived in the Fox Lake area for many years, they are not as strangers. Jim and Pat Williams are the ,new owners of the O'Brien home at 1912 West Oakleaf; thus nine year old Patti Jo, lxk years old Jimmy, and 4V& year old Diane Lynn are the new faces in the crowd of youngsters who liven the upper Oakleaf area, while six month old Daniel Patrick makes sure that Mommie does not get lonely in the house. Jim is a roofer for a Chicago firm, 885-5740 so is accustomed to a fair size" drive to whichever roof requires his talents today. Hunting and fishing ate Jjis choices for leisure hours -- whenever that is -- and Pat enjoys sewing -- whenever that can be worked in. So glad to have you with us, Wiliamses. Squad Dance Rescued After a very sluggish advance sale of tickets, the event was saved (and then some) by door <sales, to produce a most successful evening at the Community Club for the annual Johnsburg Rescue Squad Dance on the lovely evening of A^ig.^29. The Gehrkes, Hanahrans7w3tc «inskis, Red Davises, Andersons, Roys, Siepmans, Wegners, Palmers, Simmons, Josts, and the Frank Manns and their son and daughter-inlaw were among the dancers who crowded the floor to enjoy the good music and gay atmosphere. Congrats and thanks to all who worked so hard toward this success for a cause that is dear to all residents in this area. Wishing Well Wishes . . . t o J i m F u q u a w h o u n d e r went surgery at McHenry"hospital last week. After a four day stay, he is home and hobbling about well, but far from his normal pace, and hopes to be back at work in another week or so. . . . t o G u n n a r J o h a n s e n whose severe hay fever is hindering his convalescence progress. . . . to Ve Schroeder who had a fierce case of flue, but is feeling stronger now. . . . t o L a r r y P a l m e r w h o i s under the weather. . . . t o C l a i r e H o t t e l s w h o i s recuperating from popular summer seizure which is commonly called "vacation" Vacation Varieties The wilds of Wyoming called so Ed and Vi and Ed's parents revisited the hunting grounds around Gillette where Ed and his father often go hunting. During this lovely one-week trip they saw antelope, deer and mountain lion tracks, and visited various areas including Pike's Peak. On their return trip through Nebraska Mr. Rodicek presented Ed with a Chesapeake Retriever on his birthday. Lively trip home. Joining their daughter and her family at their Illinois State Park camp site, the Hoettels enjoyed a bar-b-qued dinner and then brought grandsons Tommy and Stevie to their home for six fun-filled days. Two fishing trips with "Pops" (Howard) produced the essential ingredient for a fish fry. Picnicking, go-carting with Aunt Velma, and playing ball with the local crowd made the boys reluctant to leave for home. The fresh trim and shutters that have given the Hoettels home that finishing touch are the fruits of the other week of Howard's vacation. Charming. Drive by. New York, New York What a city. What a time. Short on space. Crummy rhymn! Report next \yeek. Time's vs. mine. Coming and Going Mrs. Emma Olson and her sister-in-law, Mrs. Joseph Loesh, (her house guest from Staten Island, New York) spent a week in Nelsonviile, Wis.; visiting Mrs. Olson's brother and sister. They arrived back at Sunnyside Estates on Mrs. Olson's birthday, Sept. 1. During Mrs. Joesh's visit here, the two women also visited a brother-in-law in Evanston, who has been ill. Mrs. Olson loves to be a hostess and hated to have her guest depart. Family functions packed the Gerkes' weekend. On Saturday evening Dick and Jean attended a housewarming for Dick's nephew and wife at Silver Lakes in Cary. With all of Dick's family in attendance, it was a fine reunion. Getting back home at a reasonable (?) hour, the Gerkes decided to see the Rescue Squad dance through its final hour, since they usually miss it totally for some reason or another. Sunday was the reunion of Jean's family at Sand Lake, with ALL members (five brothers, two sisters/ nephews, nieces, grand nieces, grand nephews by the score) attending, coming from as far away as Kentucky and Indiana. It had been over two years since Jean had seen some of them, so it was indeed a marvelous affair with food enough for twice their numbers. Candle Capers For her birthday Mrs. Grace Owen was honored with a dinner for the entire family given by her daughter at her home in Park Ridge. How's this for a warm gift: an electric sheet. That should keep Mom Owen cozy and comfy. Since Donny Voight feds he has outgrown parties, his cek ebration was a family one with his grandmother and aunt from Chicago on hand to join in the chorus. For the Kelsos* double celebration they had two all-purpose cakes: one that was all purpose, and the other that was all-purpose and said so, i.e., "Happy Birthday, Happy Anniversary". Friend Nancy was the thoughtful creator and donor of the second cake. Velma Stephens was honored with two parties this year. One on Saturday evening at the Hoffs in Pistakee Bay and then a woman's luncheon on her date, the 1st, also given by Mrs. Hoff. To climax the grand circuit, she was called over to the Zeigers Tuesday night and was presented with a lovely blouse which Dave and Jerry had gone out to buy on their own, telling no one. Velma was so deeply touched by their thoughtfulness." And it couldn't happen to a nicer person. Happy Birthday Tomorrow to Delores €5erstein (who incidently is the most frequent courier of this column from reporter to publisher). On the 13th to Shirley Simmons and to Helen Wegner. On the 14th to sweet little four year old Sarah O'Brien who just moved away, and to two year old David Hanahan. On the 16th to nine year old Gail McDonald. May your day and the coming year be filled with joys and blessings. Happy Anniversary On the 12th to Delores and Don Gerstein who will be celebrating their 11th year and to Andy and Joanne Eichhorn, on their fifth. On the 13th to Ed and Mary Ellen Wickman on their sixth. On the 14th to Sophie and Frank Barbasky who will be celebrating their 34th year. May God grant each of you many more years of happiness together. Gummy Gimmick Barely getting both feet in the door the Olsen children dived for the grocery sack on the table and- scrambled through the items to pluck out? the latest rage: FOOTBALL BUBBLE GUM, just like all the other kids in the neighborhood have. Zip went the wrappers and sure enough, there.it all was: the football cards, yes, APPLES PICK YOUR OWN APPLES and SAVE! Come anytime -- Enjoy an all day outing or an after-work half hour.
