I've been asked to"be sure to extend a warning to all drivers of vehicles to use extreme caution while driving in school zones. All children, no matter what age, do get a little negligent once in awhile. So we must ask the drivers to watch out for them while they go to and from school. We want all of ours on this earth at the end of the school year so please, please, use caution and drive slow during these zones. <t Hospital Patient xFred Karpenski has returned Ao his home after quite a lengthy stay in the McHenry hospital. We are all glad to see him out once more. He suffered from an illness quite like pneumonia and it really had Fred going for a wtflle. We all certainly hope this is the end of his troubles. Welcome Mat Dusted Off All of us would like to take this opportunity to welcome Mr. and Mrs. John Socha of 2011 Sunnyside Beach Drive. The Sochas have been permanent residents of this address since July this year, although they have spent many summers in our area. Another family to be welcomed formally are the Robert Duffys of 1717 Sunnyside Drive. They have been here since last spring. I'm very sorry that they were not welcomed via this column sooner but it is a little hard to keep up with all the new families moving into our town. It would be a big help if neighbors of new people would give me a ring whenever they move in. We all hope both of these families have nothing but happiness in their new homes and remain here forever. Guild Celebrate Birthdays When the Pink Ladies Sewing Guild of Women's auxiliary to the McHenry hospital met in the home of Margaret Bolin in McHenry on Sept. 10, five members' birthdays were celebrated. The hostess served a delicious birthday luncheon in honor of the occasion. Nineteen ladies were in attendance at this time. Included in this count were Esther Knapp and Mildred Kennedy from here. At the business-Tfteeting a unanimous vote elected Lilah Jordan as president of the guild. Margaret Bolin was elected as treasurer. At this meeting it w^s voted that the guild would give $50.00 for bricks for the new hospital addition. A hap- -^,py afternoon was enjoyed by all. Our Of Town Visitors Mr. and Mrs. Jim Freund of Hollywood, Fla., left for their home lasf' week after spending a vacation here visiting his parents, the Joe L. Freunds. While here they also spent some time with her family in Elgin. Jim and Lorraine spent quite a busy time catching up on all the things that have been going on in our area these past few ye^rs. I imagine they saw many, many changes. The John Sochas recently entertained the Ed Socha family from Chelsey, Mass., for a few weeks. Birthday Surprise What a surprise Jake Miller received on his eightieth birth day on Sept. 5. All kinds of friends and relatives poured in on him at the Harold Kollenkark home that evening and really took him by complete surprise. Joining in on the celebration was Mr. and Mrs. Fred Heider, Darlene. Jean and John; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Kollenkark, Gerry, Judy and Mary Jane; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Skillman of Grand Rapids, Mich.; Mr. and Mrs. George Reinmiller of Chicago: Mr. and Mrs. Jim Heider of Evanston; Mrs. Jake Miller of Spring Grove; Mr. and Mrs. Nick Miller of Waukegan; Miss France Michels and Mrs. Elizabeth Michels of McHenry; Mr. ant Mrs. Art Thelen, Mr. and Mrs Charlie Michels, and Mr. am Mrs. Pete Miller of this area We al! wish to extend ou best wishes to Jake on hi: eightieth natal day. Luncheon Reminder Please keop ;n mind the dak of Sept. 30. This is the date of the luncheon and card part> sponsored by the Blessed Virgin Sodality. It will be held in the community club hall at noon. Proceeds of the afternoon will benefit the new convent. Newlyweds To Reside Here When Ron and Joyce Callahan return from their honeymoon in California, they, will reside in an apartment on Johnsburg road. The youne couple repeated their marriage vows in a ceremony performed in St. John's church on Sept. ,5. An evening reception held in the community club hall honored the newlyweds. Wishes from a happy^future as Mr. and Mrs. are sent to them from all of us. Short Visit We Hope Mr. and Mrs. Albert Reindl of Fairview avenue were to leave by plane last Saturday for Maine for what we hope is a short visit. Mr. Reindl recently suffered a stroke and was hospitalized for a few weeks. They will remain with their daughter in Maine until he is fully recovered. We are all in high hopes that this will be just a short time. And knowing hi.n -- we are sure it won't be too long until they are back home. Reason For Celebration Joe and Gerry Hiller greeted guests in the community club hall last Sunday evening at a reception celebrating their silver wedding anniversary. They were honored with a Mass at 10:45 a.m. in St. John's church earlier that day. On hand to make their day complete were their children, Bob, Betty Lou, John, Carol Jean, Mary Jo and David. Their oldest son, Joe, is in Korea with the army. We extend happy wishes to Mr. and Mrs. Dan Knapp of Fairview avenue who also celebrated their silver wedding anniversary this week. In line for congratulations are Mr. and Mrs. William Mars. This young couple will be observing 40 years of marriage this week. We all hope they have another happy 40 together. Many, many happy wishes to all the celebrants. Rescue Squad Calls Again our rescue squad was kept busy this past week answering calls to those in need. On the 4th of this month the squad members were called to Pistakee Highlands at 2:30 in the afternoon. A young couple were woking on a car when it slipped and fell on them. They were both taken to the hospital by the squad ambulance. At 1 a.m. on the 5th a call brought the squad to a scene near Weingart Road where a car hit a sign pole. No medical aid was given at this time. Lincoln road, east of the outdoor, on Sept. 6th at 2:30 a.m. was the next call for first aid for the squad. Two occupants of a car which went out of control and went off the road were taken to the McHenry hospital by the squad and by ambulance. They suffered possible broken hip and leg. Both were thrown out of the car which was completely demolished. About 4 a.m. that same morning the squad members were routed from tljeir beds once more. The squad worked through the night and again the next morning trying to find a man believed to have drowned. The body was found ATTENTION HEARING AID USERS We Are Still At The Same Address 1407 N.
