Thursday, September 17, 1964 THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Section Thref -- Page All-New 1965 Ramblers Unveiled A The Rambler Ambassador is the longest and most luxurious of three distinctively different lines of American Motors cars for 1965. Over-alllenitfr has been increased 10 inches on models other than station wagons, and a convertible has been added to the Ambassador line for the first time. Ambassador Styling is all-new with'a bold horizontal grille separated by vertical dividing strips; dual vertical headlights and full-height vertical taillights. Shown is the Ambassador 990 fourdoor sedan. Other Ambassador models include two-door sedans, station wagons, hardtops and the new convertible. The Ambassador horsepower range is fromthe new 155 "six" to the 270 V-8. SUNNYSIDE ESTATES FRAN OLSEN 385-5740 NEW HOMES IN AREA DAMAGED BY PLAYFUL CHILDREN "Lot's ko play in Iho now house" is a child's i<l<\i of an invitation to Wonderland - a Wonderland ho should never roach. With so many homes under construction in the Estates, the Wonderlands are many and 1 erupting and so are the dangers and the risks. Hundreds of dollars worth of damage has been done in these new homes yes, hundreds. When Ihoso children are caught, their parents are held responsible for" these damages. Contractors can not be expected to stand repeated losses that are the result of, mischievous play. In the name of your SKHOA president, in Iho name of your road commissioner, and in the name of justice, put this Wonderland (i.e., ALL construction areas) on the TABOO list for your children. Loose Leash Close those nates. Secure t hose chains. ('heck 1 hose ropes. Fasten those collars. Let your dog know you care: care enough to keep him away from strangers who don't understand him when he jumps up on them and knocks them down care enough to keep him safe fir.m frisky children who "play" by pulling his tail poking him with a slick and throwing rocks at him -- care enough to keep him out of the packs that prowl at night -- care enough to prevent him from being the neighborhood nuisance number one! An ounce of prevention can provent an impoundment for cure. CFV Hats off to the Cystic Fibrosis volunteers (the drafted variety of volunteer) Diane Voight and Debbie and Diane Noah who canvasser! the entire Instates alone 1o collect for this fine cause. Drive chairman La Verne Noah is proud to report that the total contribution from the Estates $20.50 is higher than ever before, thanks to your generosity, and the hard work of three willing gals. Plan Now . . . t o a t t e n d t h e O c t . 1 mooting of the .Sunnyside Estates Homeowners Association, Inc. A quorum of paid numbers is needed in order to affect any of the proposed changes. If a quorum is not present, dues will remain Iho same, etc. . .. Circle that date on your calendar. My Slip is Showing . . . by its very absence. In weary condition, this reporter overlooked a vital mention last week. Deepest appreciation to Volma Stephens for taking over those two weeks in August. Fine and thorough job. What my thanks lacks in speed, is made up for in depth. New York Reading, watching, and listening to all the clitics of the World's Fair is a good preparation for visiting the fair, but take it all with a grain of salt and approach the fair with an open mind. You may find, as the Olsons did, that the criticisms can be biased, harsh, and unfitting. To each his own, and the rose must remain for each to appreciate according to his abilities and his notion of what a rose should offer. "When is a rose not a rose?" To each his own. The fair is a trip around the world within the confinds of Flushing Meadows, such as no travelogue can simulate. The dance of the Zulus at the African pavilion has the spirit of a cannibal feast and their music has a complex melody and intricate harmony one would not expect to find in an uncivilized culture, (inovies never give this idea- it is ustiaHy ju.;t so much chanting* Many nations display their most important,' peculiar and/ or interesting products «ind sent samplings of 'their art treasures, nut Spain excelled in ihis area, as well as in the area of architecture and layout of displays. The Vatican paviilion was a plea;; ;nt surprise, .tfter all the adverse criticism thai has been printed. The s"!emn experience of seeing Mieiveiaagelo's I'iel a was amended l\y many mar\e|ous examples of church art. I In I the chapel did leave a. lot to be desired. Church history and informal ion about the Catholic Church were well presented in films and literature. A 20 second ride up to the 250 ft. high observation dock of the New York stale pavilion is breath-taking .and so is the view. Captivating beyond description. Especially at dusk: like indirect lighting on a magnificent scene of beautiful structures graced with dramatic lighting in all colors. That's the Fair! with the lovely skylines of New York all around. Not to be missed. The New >h rsy paviilion is especially intriguing from this vantage point, although it looks nondeseipi from the ground. Approaching Ihe Fair from 1 he expressway, the Unishpore gives the impression, "So what's all the fuss about." Wh»n you are standing beneath it. the question answers itself. Kspeeially at night when iho surrounding fountains and the l.'5-story-high sphere are lighted. Terribly impressive. The overall extravaganza of architecture is tied together beaulifully by the broad lanes, ixatly planted and uniformly lighted. And in spite of the extreme designs, there are enough neutral colored buildings to offset and set off Ihese colorful examples of classic tradition, such as Ihe Thailand, i fiing Kong, Japan, China, etc. . . . pavilliohs. Dreaming of going? Plan 'atr ad. It can be costly, bul it also can bo done reasonably. The voice of experience and poverty speaks. A fair size volume might affuid enough space to cover one's impressions and memories of a World's Fair. Other highlights of this family's big trip East were: Ihe ferry rifle lo S..\aten Island, duiing which we saw the Statue of Liberty and the departure of the world's largest ocean liner1, the United States; seeing the Museum of Modern Art thoroughly; visiting the New York Stock Exchange; drinking in the beauly of the Japanese garden and all Ihe magnificent planlings at the Ilropklyn Botanic Gardens; eating Mexican Food at Torilla Flat la Greenwich Villiage restaurant) after just having read Tortilla Flat (an old novel by Steinbeck, which has nothing to do with the restaurant); wondering about the ownership of that strange Viking ship anchored off Manhattan (a night of TV answered that: it's the ship used in the commercial for the new short cigars: "The greatest thing from Swedensince blonds!"); seeing Lincoln Center; having a drink at Pete's Pub which is an old hang-out of Washington Irving and O. Henry, and seeing Rudolph's, Saarinen's, and Skidmorc-' s additions to the Yale campus in New Haven. Full, but well-paced,' wonderful trip. Coming; and Going Delores Hanahan was pleased to have Vali Ferri visit for the day last Thursday. Delores and Vali used to .work together in Chicago, so had a fun day dhtatting. The Harold Palmers attended the wedding of Marge's second cousin in Lincolnwood on Sept. 5. Rose Cimastro became the bride of James Montesti in a lovely ceremony at St. At hanasius Catholic church. Bob and BOtly Lakowske went on a moonlight square dancing cruise on Lake Geneva recently. Eight squares of couples really rocked that ferry at this dizzying event sponsored by the a propos Limber Timber Square Dance Club of Elkhorn, Wis. Newiyweds Jim and Judy Hess (Betty's cousin l were the over night guests of the Lakowskes, repaying the visit that 1he Lakowskos paid them in | Stevens Point to attend their wedding three months ago. The Hesse s had taken a second honeymoon (already) to Chicago. Betty was so pleased that they stopped to visit them. Happy Anniversary To Jim and Marie Leahy on the 2';rd.
