JOHN'S The date of Oct. 11 is coming upon us real fast, as the committee in charge of St. John's open house can tell you. The committee has been making various plans for this event for several weeks. After a visit to our beautiful church, where there will be persons on duty to tour you through it, all will have an opportunity to see the Sisters' new convent. Before entering the new home of the Sisters, a tour of their their old house is in order. If for some reason you miss seeing their homes on Oct. 11, you may do so on the following Sunday, Oct. 18. Ple^^ogp in mind the open house date of Oct. 11 from 2 to 4 p.m. You will be well rewarded after viewing the splendid interior of the church. The public is cordially invited to come in and participate in the open house tour. Georgia Residents Visit Here Mr. and Mrs. Don Hettermann and their three children visited for several days at the home of Joe and Marty Freund recently. The Hettermanns flew here from Atlanta to participate in the wedding celebration for Ken Hettermann and Colleen Mahoney both of Mc- Henry. While here the Hettermanns also visited with other relatives and friends. Rescue Sauad Calls On Sept. 21 at 10f3O p.m., the members of the Johnsburg rescue squad were summoned to Pistakee Highlands where a resident was suffering from respiratory trouble. She was removed to the hospital by ambulance. The Wilmot road and route 12 was the scene of a car accident on Sept. 27 at 1 a.m. The squad was assisted by the Richmond rescue squad. Of the three persons injured in the accident, two were taken to the McHenry hospital by our squad and the other was taken by ambulance. This last call has now brought the running count up to 2,410. That call was on Sunday, Sept. 27th, at 9:30 a.m. A golfer suffered possible spine injuries whUe playing at the Pistakee Gdlf Course. He was taken to an Arlington Heights hospital by ambulance. Sad Note We were all sorry to hear that Rudy and Marie passer have sold their beautiful home on Spring Grove Roajd and moved in closer to the city. The Lassers were among the first of the new homes built in Jak- Ana Heights sincc the subdivision began thirteen years ago. We wish them much happiness in their new surroundings, although we can't help but feel bad that they are gone. They have been real good neighbors to us for these past years. We will miss them. Congratulations Corner Belated wishes to Marge Peterson and Dorothy Hettermann who shared Sept. 26 as their natal days. Mike Hettermann has a big day coming up on Oct. 3. He will be nine on that day. Special congratulations are in order for Mr. and Mrs. John Freund who observed their fifty- fifth wedding anniversary last Sunday, Sept. 27. They were joined by their family in attendance at the 8 o'clock Mass in St. John's church to begin the day. Later the family members enjoyed dinner together at the McHenry Country Club. Sam Tomasello was pleasantly surprised last Thursday evening when about twenty of his family and friends came to his home to celebrate his birthday. The surprise party was planned and executed by his ever-lovin' Pat. Happy wishes are also in order for Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Ansell who celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary on Sept. 24. Halloween Party In The Offing The juvenile girl Foresters will come in costume to their next meeting in the community club on Oct 12. All members from first grade on up are invited to attend. Cost for the evening will be just the regular dues. This will get underway at 7 p.m. \ Mother, Sister, Aunts, Someone -- Help Much help is needed if the three local Girl Scout troops are to continue. An S.O.S. is being sent out to all available women to take an interest in these girls. The troops are in jeopardy of being disbanded if there aren't some women available to come in and work with them. A meeting to discuss this important topic will be held in the kindergarten room of the public school on Oct. 6. at 3:30 in the afternoon. If you have any questions in regards to this matter, please contact, Mrs. Pat Tomasello, or Mrs. Mierzwa. They will be most happy to help you if they can. Try and be present at this meeting. This is for all women who have interest in young girls in scouting. Day of Recollection For Lady Foresters The Rockford Diocese Association of the Women's Catholic Order of Foresters annual Day of Recollection will be held at the Sacred Heart church in Aurora on Oct 10. The Rev. Eugene Trainer, M. S. C., of the Sacred Heart seminary in Geneva, will conduct the day of retreat. Registration will be at the school hall between 9 and 10 a.m. with the first conference at 10 a.m. Luncheon will be served at noon. Members of St. Agatha's court number 777 planning to attend should make reservations with Marie Oeffling before Oct. 7. The advisory board meeting of the association will be held during the lunch hour. St. Margaret Mary court of Aurora is sponsoring this year's Day of Recollection. Forty Hours Devotions St. John's church will hold forty hours devotions of the Blessed Sacrament beginning at the 8:15 a.m. Mass(on Friday of this week. Devotions will close on Sunday evening at 8 p.m. Masses will be offered on Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 . As our Harvest Hop Dance is getting mighty close this will be one of the subjects discussed. How are you doing on your tickets? Birthdays Many happy returns of the day to Bill Kerner, David Winters, Nancy Mieritz and Jimmy Lande all on the 2nd of October, Bill will be 17 and David will be 11, on the 3rd. Jeanne Egger will be having a birthday, Michael Denigan on the 6th and Susan Misiak, Jlichard Barrows and Christopher Ko- Thursday and-Saturday before first Friday and before and after the evening Masses. 90th Birthday Celebration When Mrs. Catherine Klein celebrates her ninetieth birthday next Sunday she will be surrounded by her family. An open house invitation is extended to all her old friends to come to the community club hall between the hours of 3 and 5 p.m. leno on the 7th. Chris will be 10 years old. Best wishes t all. Anniversaries Edward and Janet Keevins will be adding another year on the 1st of October, on the 3rd Bernice and Walter Wilson will celebrate our 33rd, and Marvin and Beatrice Burchfield on the 5th. Birthday Parties On Wednesday little Tami Gunder celebrated her third birthday. Those helping were Timmy Wetzel, Craig Mieritz and Kim Olbinski. Thursday aflornoon Timmy Wetzel had a party to observe his fourth birthday and his guests were Tami Gunder, Craig Mieritz, Kim Olbinski, Paul Pogor and Chuck Whitney. Activities in the Shores The Wetzels visited the Larry Murrays of McCullom Lake last Sunday and had a delicious hot beef dinner. The Ray Pogors had unexpected guests on Sunday afternoon. Barb's brother, Bob, his wife, Joan, and their five children. Even though it was a .bit chilly the kids enjoyed having dinner on the patio which consisted of barbecued ribs and sirloin steak. Gerry Olbinski's mother, Frances Conway, came out for a visit and while here became ill and is now confined to the McHenry hospital. She is expected home this weekend and we all wish her a speedy recovery. The A1 Mieritzes have a new little bundle of joy: but this won't keep Roberta washing diapers and making formulas as she is four legged and weighs about 5 pounds and is called Pepper, congratulations on the new addition to the family. The Zeimets entertained two couples from Germantown, Wis., on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Stragg and Mr. and Mrs. Ted Scott, and all went to Crystal Lake for a smorgasbord dinner which was out of Auto Insarsme® C«me@!lled? Julie's cousin, Mrs. Scott, wrote to say that she enjoyed it so much she wants to go there again, it's a good thing Julie is so nice and slim she can stand all that good food. John and Daisy Smith visited Mr. Duncan last Sunday. John gave him his hair cut as usual and in the evening they all had to watch the 'Beattles' on Ed Sullivan's program as Mr. Duncan gets such a kick out of them. Talk about being young in heart. They are going back again this Sunday as it will be Mr. Duncan's birthday. Daisy will attend a fashion show in Villa Park this weekend given by the VFW Auxiliary and aptly named 'Fall Carnival of Fashions and Furs. Daisy will be a spectator this year. We had quite a bit of excitement at our house last Sunday. My brother, Howard Lowing, brother, Howard Lowing, and his wife, Diane, and Kurt and Eric, his sons, drove up for 1 , >1 dinner and as they were get«1 ting ready to go back home to Chicago he complained of « pain in his chest and after ly« ing down for a few minutes had a heart attack and had toi be rushed to McHenry hospital® He is feeling much better every day and we hope he will continue to improve as his wife is in hopes of getting him back to Chicago this weekend. The Methodist's Men's Club had a dinner Wednesday evening and Sam Winters and Bill Ewald attended and enjoyed a fine dinner and then a talk by the superintendent of schools. The first meeting of the Lecture Luncheon Club was held in Marengo Sept. 30. Many of our Shores girls attended. Well this is it for today. How about a call with some choice news items.
