Stewart Norbert Lorch was injured during the annual summer festival, suffering a multiple fracture of his leg, and is still in cast. Because he was in service to .his community, several people felt that a benefit party to help defray some of his astronomical medical costs was indicated. The party in his behalf was arranged by Fred Matthesius and Tom Sanford. Tickets were sold and a goodly sum was turned over to Stew during the festivities. Getting him to the party in the first place required a great deal of plotting by Dorothy Martle and others in on the hoax. When the great guy! arrived and realized the party was in his honor, he wept. When interviewed, Stewart Norbert, choked with emotion said, "I just can't believe people would do this for me!" A goodly portion of the village and many, many people from his place of employment turned out for the very happy occasion. Most of the local women attending brought a "pot to pass" and the festive board was laden with all sorts of goodies. Hot beef and baked ham composed the main fare surrounded with salads of all varieties, baked beans, baked spaghetti, home made pickles, olives and all the other trimmings. Theresa Cunningham did a magnificent job in the kitchen ably assisted by her sisters Jean McDonald and May Kennenberg. Others who helped and deserve recognition were Lillian Ringelstetter, Dorothy Cunningham, and Stew's mother-- Helen Lorch. It was a memorable occasion, honoring a really great guy and it was a tribute to what friends can be "when a feller needs a friend"! Accident Victims Nursing in excess of seventy- five stitches about the head, Dennis Huff is recovering in the home of Helen and Walter Streske. After being involved in an auto accident (reported in last week's Plaindealer), Dennis was rushed to McHenry hospital in the hours between Saturday and Sunday, a week ago. He was removecVfo Harvard hospital that Sunday afternoon and released this past Sunday. Dennis is one of the nicest young lads we know and has done his share to assist Santa Claus every holiday season since he was about 12 years old. We sincerely hope that his friends will remember to send cheery messages which would be so comforting during his convalescence. His address is 4715 W. McCullom Lake Road. The extremely gusty winds last Friday were responsible for sending Frank Tomasok of W. Fountain Lane to McIIenry hospital with a fractured right arm, fractured ribs, and cracked pelvic bone. Seems as though Frank was trying to removed a big branch from one of his trees when the wind swung around and literally blew him from his perch on a tall ladder. Good neighbor, Bill Schmidt, rushed him to McHenry hospital where he is in a great deal of p^m. but hopes to make one of the fastest recoveries in history! Frank is strictly an outdoors man and can't stand to be "fenced in." Speaking of Frank, he is mourning one of his friends. Frightened by the various reports, the fellow gave up smoking and started chewing toothpicks. He died of Dutch elm disease! (Nope, it didn't really happen!) In spite of Frank's hopes for early release, there is plenty of time to send him a greeting at the hospital, but we can't wait to see him striding down the road once more. He has a birthday coming up this Saturday, Oct. 10, so don't forget to include this in your note. Forthcoming Nuptials Announced Saturday, Oct. 17, is the date set by Dave Boyle and his betrothed--Nancy Schelter of Woodstock. They will plight their troth at St. John's Lutheran church at 7:30 p.m. A reception for invited guests will be held in the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rogers of 1035 Queen Anne, Woodstock. Dave is the son of Mrs. Elizabeth Boyle, 4706 W. Parkview with home he has been making his home. Serving in the capacity of best man will be big brother, John Boyle, and assisting the bride will be matron of honor, Mrs. Shirley Ahreng of Woodstock. The couple will honeymoon in Peoria while Dave goes back to school! He will be studying to become a switchman for I.B.T. Nancy is a salesgirl. May we offer our very best wishes for a long happy wedded life. Install New Equipment At the last meeting of the president and trustees held Monday, Sept. 28, in the beachhouse, the board agreed to install the new radio equipment in the squad car to comply with state and county regulations. Our present equipment is obsolete and makes our department just about worthless in trying to give adequate protection to our residents. This will keep our community on an up to date basis. In connection also with the police department, an outstanding reserve officer, George Scarbrough, has been promoted to regular duty. He has proven to be a fine officer and his chief, Earl Murray, made the recommendation. More road repairs will be completed in the near future, according to commissioner Art Stuhlfeier. The next meeting will be held Monday, Oct. 12, at 8 p.m. in the beachhouse. The public in invited. Bright Fella With A Mighty Bright Future Dave Liberty has an associate degree now from a two year course in which he majored in linotype at LeTourneau College in Lohgview, Tex. He worked in the printing plant while studying at La Tourneau and also worked there this past summer, putting his learning into practice. He was able to be home just two week before leaving again Sept. 21 for Rochester, N. Y. At the Rochester Institute of Technology, Dave is studying printing management. Sixth grade sister Fay certainly hopes big brother will make it home for Christmas. In her words, "Then it won't seem so long". It had been nine months since the little missy last saw him. To say his parents, Mabel and Don, miss him also would be stating it mildly! Dave was a most industrious lad while he attended McHenry high school and set up a fine paper route in this area. We certainly wish him luck in his chosen profession. Sepaking Of Students Ken Nelson, whom we reported had returned to his studies at Carthage College in Kenosha, is now attending Southern >111 inois University on a two year scholarship. 'Twas a hectic weekend for mom and pop--Elma and Earl, who dashed to Wisconsin on Friday night to retrieve Ken and ALL HIS BELONGINGS and transferred him to Carbondale over Sunday and Monday. They expected to return Monday p.m. The difference between the two schools and home base is some 400 miles! Ken proved to be an outstanding scholar last year and we couldn't be happier for him. With his personality, he should have no difficulty making the re-adjustment! Just Missed Grandma's Birthday! By playing coy, wee Jeanette Marie Straumann chose her OWN birthday when she made her appearance at Memorial Hospital for McHenry County, Saturday, Oct. 3, at 9:21 p.m. Her grandmother, Lottie Piotrowski, observed her natal day on the 2nd. The little gal tipped the scales at a very healthy 8 lbs., 7V2 OZ. and measured 21V4 inches from bow to stern. She enters a family rich with relatives beginning with mom and dad -- Phyllis and Dennis Straumann. Her playmates include sisters -- Sandy, 4 and Debbie, almost 3. Big brother is Denny (Butch) who will be 2 in December. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Gene Piotrowski and paternal grandmother is Mrs. Wilma Russell of Minneapolis.
