Thagsdiy, October 15. 1964 THE McHENBY PLAINPEALER Section Two; -- Pag# Thy^' H i : JOHNSBURG NEWS BETfy IIETTERMANN 5&5-1296 HUNDREDS ATTEND ST. JOHN'S OPEN HOUSE SUNDAY Father Dording, Father Weideman, the Sisters, as well us the committee who helped with the open house of St. John's church last Sunday, were more than satisfied with I he interest shown by all who were in attendance. In the neighborhood of 700 to 800 persons, non catholics as well as catholics, made a tour of the interior of the church. Guides, well instructed in their various assignments, explained to their groups as they made their way around the spacious church. Following the tour of the church, all interested parties were invited to see the new convent. Our good Sisters conducted people through their new home for several hours Sunday afternoon.. This beautiful new building must be seen to be appreciated. Residents from Chicago, Aurora, and various suburbs too numerous to mention, were among those who were in our town last weekend. All were fascinated with the inner beauty of our church as well as the stately exterior of it. Parishioners who were unable to see the new convent last Sunday, are invited to come this Sunday, Oct. 18 to go through it. We all join in wishing the Sisters much health and happiness in their new home. Birthday Celebration Huge Suwess The party hosted by the family of Mrs. Catherine Klein held in the community club recently was a terrific success. Close to 200 friends and relatives came and went during the afternoon hours leaving behind them many happy wishes for Mrs. Klein. Many of these persons who journeyed here from out of town, were people she hadn't see for years and years. They celebrated Mrs. Klein's ninetieth birthday. On hand with her at the celebration were her daughters: Mrs. Regina Michels, Mrs. Clara Adams and Mrs. Mary Nett, all of Johnsburg, and her son, Art Klein of Fox Lake. Also present were her ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Sewing; Guild Meets In Whispering llills When the Pink Ladies Sewing Guild of the Women's auxiliary to the McHenry hospital met in Whispering Hills on Oct. 8, Esther Knapp, Tillie Ahrens and Mildred Kennedy were in attendance. Nell Bergener, who was the hostess, held this meeting in the communiy center with Lee Barner assisting as co-hostess. The pot-luck luncheon honored the newly elected president, Lilah Jordan and new treasurer, Margaret Bolin. P.T.A. Meeting Coming Up The officers and members of the Johnsburg public school P.T.A. will hold their next regular meeting in the school on Oct. 20 at 8 p.m. Speaker of the evening will be Eugene Maxwell, guidance counselor at the Woodstock community high school. All parents are asked to be p r ese n t^gjvth is'Tn fbr ma - tive meeting. Notes Of Sadness We wish to extend our deepest sympathies to the surviving members of the Mrs. Ann Marscliall family. Prior to her death, Mrs. Marschall resided on Middle avenue here in Johnsburg. She passed away at the age of 54 in the McHenry hospital where ghe was a patient only a day and a half. Left to mourn her are her husband, Frank, a daughter, Shirley Iverson of our area, one grandson, two brothers and a host of friends. Our sympathies also to Mrs. Fred Freund upon the recent death of her sister, Mrs. Mayme Justen of McHenry. Welcome Home Again Our community is real happy to see "Chuck" Hiller home again for the winter months. As if you didn't know already, "Chuck" plays with the San Francisco Giants. Once again we say welcome home to him. Rescue Squad Calls On Oct. 7, at 7:40 p.m. our Johnsburg rescue squad members had a call which summoned them to Dutch Creek Woodlands. A resident there suffered a possible stroke and was taken in the squad ambulance to the McHenry hospital. At 4 a.m. on Oct. 9. Whispering Hills was the scene of their next call. The victim suffered a possible heart attack and was treated at the scene by a doctor. The last call of that week came at 1:15 a.m. on the 10th. A young man lost, control of his car, went off the road hitting a utility pole. He received lacerations of the face and hands. The squad members took him to the hospital for further treatment. Included in the running count of 2,415, are the three Calls mentioned above. Lady Foresters To Meet The next regular meeting of St. Agatha Court 777 will be held on Oct. 20, in the community club hall. On this evening the members will find out who their secret pals were. Also on the agenda for this evening will be movies of the Worlds Fair. Two Week Dream Trip Clara Nell of Sunnyside Beach and Dorothy Miller of McHenry returned recently from spending a two week motor trip which took them to Washington, D. C., Kentucky and New York. Both ladies were delegates to the 13th biannual convention of the National Federation of Republican Women's club at Louisville, Ky. There they voted for Phyllis Schlafly, author of the books, "The Grave Digger" and "Choice Not An Echo," which should be read by both Democrats and Republicans. From there they decided to visit Mrs. Nell's two daughters, Ethel and Henrietta, in New Jersey. All four made a tour of New York where they stopped off to see the Worlds Fair. While in the big city, the ladies enjoyed seeing three of the leading stage plays. It was on to Washington, D. C., after that. Mrs. Miller had to attend a Cerebral Palsy convention which lasted three days. All in all the trip was most enjoyable for both. They have learned you can mix pleasure with business and do justice to both. Twins To Celebrate Birthdays Wishes come doubly good for Peter and Joe L. Freund on Friday, Oct. 16. These congenial gentlemen will be celebrating their seventy-fifth birthdays as twins. You can bet Pete's five children and Joe's six will be on hand to extend their happy wishes of the day. We all wish those two many Dinner Reminder Just a word or two to all the businessmen of our town--you had better not forget the first annual dinner party coming up on the 27th at Hettermann's. You will certainly be sorry if you do. Lots of "goodies" have been planned especially for this night. The committee promises a "night to remember". So when you are contacted, be sure to say yes. Participates In Day Of Recollection Mrs. Catherine Dehn, Mrs. Virginia Pitzen and Mrs. Evelyn Diedrich were in Aurora last Saturday to take part in the Day of Recollection. / Pink And Blue Shower bout thirty, ladies were prfesent in the Leroy Miller hqme on a recent Sunday to befctow gifts on Mrs. Gerry Sobiesk. The gifts are for the forthcoming Sobiesk heir who should be arriving within the next few weeks. Miss Nancy Kay Miller was hostess for the shower. After various games were played, the ladies enjoyed a delicious lunch. The Sobiesks, Gerry and Georgette, reside in Berwyn. Their new son or daughter should be high on the best dressed list judging from the beautiful things that were received at the shower. Silver Wedding Celebration Once again we would like to extend sincere best wishes to Walter and Millie Smith on their silver wedding anniversary. An open house invitation is extended to all their relatives and friends for Saturday, Oct. 17, from 7:30 to midnight in the community club hall. They hope to see lots of familiar faces at this time. Northern Vacation Bill Smith was a northern visitor this past week. He spent a delightful week catching up on what's been happening to the Clarence Timm family since his last visit in Mountain, Wis. You will remember the Timm family as former residents of our town. That brings this column to a close for this week. Please keep in mind my deadline each Monday at noon. I will be waiting for your calls. Also be sure to participate in Sunday services at the church of your choice. plaper Line Addition Mr. and Mrs. Frank Murphy of Libertyville wish to announce that they are the proud parents of a new daughter.
