Sewing Guild Attends Aural Hospital Luncheon Ten members of the Pink Lady Sewing Guild attended the luncheon of the Women's auxiliary to the McHenry hospital, Oct. 7, at the McHenry Country club. Guests were Lee Barner, Pat DeVoss, Beatrice Newkirk, and Josephine Shipman of Syracuse, N.Y., the mother of Mrs. Gen Bond. The Pink Lady Sewing Guild of the. Women's auxiliary to the McHtnry hospital met at Whispering Hills community center on Oct. 8, with Nell Bergener as hostess and Lee Barner, co-hostess. It was a potluck luncheon in honor of the new president, Lilah Jordan, and treasurer, Margaret Bolin. Ladies present were Tillie Ahrens, Celia Blake, Marian Carlson, Lillian Cox, Theresa Kelly, Mildred Kennedy, Margaret Klingberg, Esther Knapp, Marge Moreth, Dorothy Olson, Marion Ritter, Mae Siadeck and Gert Snell. Couple Surprised At Honsewarmtng Mr. and Mrs. David Young were plesantly surprised Sun day evening when about fourteen relatives called for a housewarming at their new home in Country Acres. Miller Of Edgebrook Heights. Both young people are 1963 graduates of McHenry high school. "Pat" is locally employed and Dave is continuing his education at DeVry Technical Institute in Chicago. An early October, 1965, wedding is planned. Jeffrey Tronsen Honored At Shower Jeffrey Wayne Tronsen, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Tronsen, was honored at a baby shower last week held at the home of Carol Bradley with Mary Grace Wirtz as co-hostess. About fifteen people were in attendance. Many lovely gifts were re' ceived by the new baby. Island Lake Club Hears Lecture Members of the Island Lake Women's club and a large number of friends and neighbors from adjoining communities had the pleasure of hearing a very interesting lecture and seeing a food demonstration by Ruth Williams on Oct. 8.'Miss Williams is well known for her charm and humor, which kept her audience interested throughout the program. The arts and crafts group met at the home of Mrs. John Kriz on Oct. 13 to make favors for the various institutions. Engagement Party Honors Young Couple The engagement of Miss Kathleen Mary Keane, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick M. Keane, Sr., of McHenry, to Richard Berry, son of Mrs. Lorraine Miller of Fox River Grove and Lee Berry of Marengo, was announced recently. A small engagment party was held at the home of her sister, Mrs. Frank Cam&sta, of West Shore Beach. Guests attending were the Patrick Keane, Jr., family of Woodstock, the Patrick Keane, Sr., family, the Wayne Hartmann family, Elona Kube and the Frank Camasta family of McHenry. No definite date was set for the wedding. Open House On Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Walter Smith will observe their silver wedding anniversary by holding open house for relatives and friends at the Johnsburg Community club, starting at 7:30 on the evening of Saturday, Oct. 17. The actual date is Oct. 25, when the Smiths were married in 1939 at St. John the Baptist church. The couple has two children, Ronald and Marilyn. LOCAL LEADERS MODERATE DCCW ! The institute, )ield on alter-j nate years with a convention, offers women of the diocese an ! opportunity for longer periods; of study in workshops, since business meetings are not held, nor are elections. The institute this year will be entirely devoted to leadership training, and Miss Madge Dooley, general chairman, extends an invitation to all women of the Rockford diocese to attend and to participate in the special program. The Right Rev. Monsignor Louis J. Franey. vicar genera! and moderator of the Rockford Diocesan Council of Catholic Women, will confer the Catholic Woman of the Year award at the afternoon general assembly. j M Registration will begin at. 8:30 a.m. in the new north building of St. Edward high school. The morning general assembly will convene promptly, at 9:30 in the auditorium, south building. At this time the Rev. Thomas Bresnahan, head of the Gabriel Richard institute in Detroit, will give the keynote address. . Luncheon will be served in the school cafeteria from 11:30 to 1:15. Concurrent workshops will be held from 1:30 to 3:30. A general assembly at 3:30 will close the day. Father Bresnahan will again be speaker, employing the institute theme, "Be Ye Doers of the Word, and Not Hearers Only". The Rockford Diocesan Council of Catholic Women is a federation of all existing Catholic women's organizations within the Rockford diocese, an area cortiprising one-sixth of the state of Illinois. The six deaneries which are geographical divisions of the diocese are Aurora, Elgin, Freeport, McHenry, Rockford and Sterling. Leaders from each of the six deaneries will moderate the institute workshops. They include: Mrs. Charles Cuda, McHenry; Mrs. James Mclntee, Richmond; Mrs. Albert Wipper, and Mrs. L. L. McHenry Couple Wed Saturday St. Mary's Catholic church was the scene of a beautiful wedding on Saturday, Oct. 10, when Miss Patricia Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy H. Miller of 3702 W. Grand avenue, became the bride of Mr. Daniel Bengston, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Bengston of Rt. I, McHenry. Rev. Fr. Eugene Baumhofer officiated at the 11:30 o'clock nuptial rite, for which Sister Andrella played the organ. The altars of the church were decorated with bouquets of fall flowers, and there were two 'bouquets of white flowers at the communion railing. Pretty Miss Miller walked down the aisle wearing a twotiered sheath of creamy crepe, bordered in a heavy Venice lace edging. The bodice featured a scoop neck and three-quarter length sleeves. The long detachable train was edged in the same type lace. Her headpiece was a bow of matching crepe fabric and lace, with a four-petal bouffant veil of silk illusion made by the bride's mother. Miss Miller carried a cascade bouquet of Fugi mums, stephanotis and ivy and a crystal rosary belonging to her mother, which was also carried by her sister on the latter's wedding day. Attending her were Mrs. Richard Williams of McHenry, her sister, as matron of honor and Mrs. David Stromberg of Chicago, a cousin, and Mrs. Robert Callero of Niles, a close friend, as bridesmaids. They were attired in A-line, street length, gleaming glolite satin dresses, gold in color, with bateau necklines. Their headpieces were satin bows in matching color and they carried colonial style bouquets of pom poms in fall colors of gold, bronze and yellow. Merle Freund of McHenry served his brother-in-law as best man and groomsmen were David Bengston of McHenry, brother of the groom, and Roy H. Miller, Jr., of McHenry, the bride's brother. Mrs. Miller selected a sea green, two-piece silk suit with matching hat and brown acces sories. She had a white orchid corsage. Mrs. Bengston wore a cinnamon beige lace, twopiece dress, muted rainbow-color hat, brown accessories and a similiar corsage.
