ACCIDENTAL DEATHS A total of 129 accidental deaths during 1963 were due to carbon monoxide poisoning, Dr. Franklin D. Yoder, director of the Illinois Department of Public Health, reported last week. "This is a 'sneak' killer," Dr. Yoder said, "and almost daily now it will claim victims from the unwary despite repeated warnings." In homes with attached or basement garages, special caution is necessary. Automobiles or any other gasoline-powered motor should never be run in a closed space. Charcoal should not be burned in confined areas or in defective fireplaces. Last year motor vehicle exhaust gas was involved in 88 accidental deaths while utility gas accounted for 17 accidental deaths. Other sources of carbon monoxide gas accounted for 24 accidental deaths. Last year 119 persons deliberately took their lives by the use of carbon monoxide, but considering the 129 who did not want or expect to die from such a cause, this high toll shows a lack of awareness of the hazards. The newspaper article says the population in Bill's suburban neighborhood is growing so fast that even more churches will soon be needed. Bill thinks this is just great. "A community is a better place when there are plenty of churches," he says. "It's good for the children and the young people . . . it's good for everybody! We all need some sort of anchor for our lives, and the Church is the best one I know of." Bill's right. When people work together for their church . . . when peop l e p r a y t o g e t h e r f o r g u i d a n c e . . . I t can't help but lead to a greater spirit of tolerance, fellowship and cooperation in the whole community. In order to play its full part, the Church needs you, your prayers and your support. In return the Church offers you a priceless gift... the Truth that shall make you free. THE CHURCH FOR ALL • ALL FOR THE CHURCH The Church is the greatest factor on earth for the building of character and good citizenship. It is a storehouse of spiritual values. Without a strong Church, neither democracy nor civilization jjan survive. There are four sound' reasons why every person should attend services regularly and support the Church. They are: (1) For his own sake. (2) For his children's sake. (3) For the sake of his community and nation. (4) For the sake of the Church itself, which needs his moral and material support. Plan to go to church regularly and read your Bible dally. Copyright 19&i, Keister Advertising Service, Inc., Strasburg, Va.
