The entire affair was well planned and executed. A rousing hand of congratulations to the committee who worked so hard to make this the success it was. We are all hoping the community club makes this a yearly event as everyone will be most eager to participate again next time. First Born Welcomed A wee lad by the name of Jeffrey Phillip came to live in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Phil Bartmann of Island Lake last week. The first born of the Bartmanns arrived at the Mc- Henry hospital in the early hours of last Saturday morning, Nov. 7. He weighed in at a light, but healthy 6 lbs. 7 oz. Welcoming their first grandchild with open arms and lots of love are Gerry and Marcella Wakitsch of Jak-Ana Heights. The paternal grandparents reside in McHenry. We wish to extend the very best wishes to all for a most happy future. Big Bowling Event Coming Up All you bowling enthusiasts will he interested to know that there will be some pretty fancy pir toppling at our local alleys over the next weekend. The Hamm's All Star team from Chicago will be here Saturday evening at 8:30 to oppose some of our local men. This should prove to be most exciting. Each of the local leagues will be represented for the competition. Plan on being at the alleys Saturday evening and see how this sport is really played. Eastern Visitors Misses Ethel and Henrietta Nell of East Orange, N.J., spent a week visiting their parents, Hank and Clara, of Sunnyside Beach, recently. While here the girls caught up on what has been happening with their relatives and friends. They also spent sometime visiting his sisters and families, the Beeskows and the Davises. Milwaukee is where Mrs. Joe Smith spent last Thursday. She had a most enjoyable visit with her aunt. Mrs. Dorothy Himpelmann and her family were in Chicago last Sunday to celebrate the birthday of her mother-in-law. It's A Girl For The Buetels Jodi Ann Buetel made her worldly debut in the wee hours of Mon<Jay morning, Nov. 9, 12:42 a.m. to be exact. She is the first child for Bill and Kathy. This young lady was born at the Woodstock hospital -and weighed 7 lbs. 2 oz. at birth. Beaming with pride over their first granddaughter are Hack and Regina Michels. The proud paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Buetel, live in Island Lake. Little Jodi Ann is so very lucky to have a great-grandmother also. She is Mrs. Catherine Klein. Congratulations to all from all of us. Birthday Celebrants Mary K. Schmitt was guest of honor at a birthday celebration hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Frank Freund last Sunday. The occasion was her eighty-fifth natal day. In the Freund home for dinner were Mrs. Emma Lay, Mrs. Christine Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Jos. S. Schmitt and Mrs. Matt Schmitt. Later in the day nieces, nephews and friends called to extend their happy wishes to Mary. Ed. Hettermann has reason for celebration on Nov. 17 -- it's his birthday. Many happy returns of the day to all November celebrants. FORTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of November 13, 1924) Two fall weddings were performed here this week. Eleanor Klein was married to Edward N. Young, both of this city, at St. Patrick's church and also Helen Blake of Pistakee Bay to George Justen of this city at St. John's church in Johnsburg. The members of McHenry post, American Legion, combined business wtih pleasure and in so doing elected new officers for the coming year and also enjoyed a banquet and special entertainment. The occasion took place at Bickler's McHenry House and proved one of the most pleasant events spensored by the World War vets since the close ' of the war. The drinking fountains about the city have been removed for the winter. Mr. and Mrs. William Jacoby and family, who have been making their home in the B. j. Adams house on the West Side, left Sunday for Chicago, where they will reside in the future. Mr. Jacoby, who is an expert machinist, has been employed in the city for some time past. Two more colored windows are this week being installed at St. Patrick's church in this city. One donated by the Altar and Rosary sodality, is being placed in the sanctuary, while the other, a gift of the Holy Name society, is being installed in the organ loft. Helen Weber, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. H. Weber, entertained a company of friends in honor of her birthday at the cue calls to report this week. I hope we can say the same next time. Entertains Guests Mrs. Virginia Bishop of Hoffman Estates and Mrs. Anna Margaret Matos of Wichita, Kansas, were dinner guests recently in the home of Frank and Agnes Freund. Last Tuesday Mr. and Mrs. Joe Smith entertained her son and family, the Bob Zimmermanns. Over the weekend, her sister, Mrs. Ann Doran, was their house guest. Lady Forester Noted" The November meeting of St. Agatha court No. 777 W.C.O.F., will be held on the 17th in the community club hall. A memorial service for the deceased members and chaplains Will be held at this time. Chosen to serve on the committee headed by Lou La- Bay will be; Agnes Nell, Esther Schneider, Olga Freund, Peggy Klein, Emma Kattner, Margaret Stilling, and Magdalyn Woolfe. Last Wednesday evening Marie Oeffling, Dorothy Hippelmann, Evelyn Deidrich, Elsida Fuchs and Virginia Pitzen attended the workshop for officers of the Diocesean W.C.O.F. courts at St. Thomas school in Crystal Lake. The workshop was conducted by Meeting Reminder Keep next Thursday evening in mind for the regular monthly meeting of St. John's court No. 96. All members are cordially invited to be present. P.T.A. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of November 9, 1939) Mrs. Mary Wagner died at her home in Chicago Sunday after a lingering illness. Mrs. Wagner, who was a frequent visitor in the E. E. Kelter home here, made many friends in McHenry who will be sorry ^o learn of her death. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Miller are the parents of a six-pound daughter born at St. Anthony's hospital in Chicago Nov. 5. Twenty-eight guests were present at the George Freund home on Green street for the occasion of a family reunion on Sunday afternoon and evening. A delicious supper was served and cards were played during the evening. Miss Evelyn Freund, who will soon become the bride of Joseph Petitclair, was pleasantly surprised Sunday afternoon at her home by a group of friends and relatives. The future bride received many beautiful and useful gifts. Mr. Harold Dickenson, of Johannesburg, South Africa, visited his cousin, Harold Owen, Saturday. Mr. Dickenson is vice president of a diamond mine in Johannesburg. His mission here was as a representative at the World Fair in New York, where his company sponsored an exhibit. Interest in the library continues to grow. In order that the patrons may receive better service, the library will be open two afternoons a week and one evening. There are TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of November 11, 1954) R i n g w e 11 Farms of Ringwood, operated by James C. Ewell, have listed entries in the pure bred breeding classes in. the shorthorn division of the fifty-fifth annual International Livestock Exposition to be held in the International Amphitheatre at the Chicago stock yards. At the 1953 International, this herd won the junior and grand champion female awards in the shorthorn classes. Gerald Wegener has been promoted to the rank of corporal at Woodbridge; Va. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Wegener of Pearl street. The county treasurer's office announced last week the largest collection of taxes ever recorded in McHenry county. Saturday evening, Nov. 13, has been selected by the McHenry County 4-H Federation for their annual Achievement Night, which will be held in the Crystal Lake high school. On Thursday, Nov. 18, the Woodstock Chamber of Commerce will have as its guests at a banquet the twenty-five home economics and fifteen agricultural 4-H members who have been acclaimed state outstanding 4-H club members. Included among those honored will be Mary Linn Hogan, Karen Schmelzer and Betty Wright of McHenry. Mr. and Mrs. Adrian Thomas are now living in Hunterville Park, having moved recently from Forest Park. A number of McHenry folks, including piano pupils of Mrs. Sam Leibsohn and parents and friends, attended a conducted tour of the Art Institute of Chicago and also heard the young People's Symphony concert at Orchestra Hall one evening this week. Paul Steffan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Steffan, local jeweler, suffered head injuries in a fall from his bicycle late Wednesday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs .Math Adams of the Pistakee Bay area celebrated their silver wedding anniversary Saturday, Nov. 6.
