MANY MANORITES WIN HALLOWEEN COSTUME PRIZES Many Manorites won first place prizes in local Halloween parties. Several attended the party at the VFW. Winning the first prize for a group were the Birminghams, Coughlins and McCormacks. They performed a mock wedding with Pat as the bride in her bridal gown, John was the groom, Helen was the bridesmaid, and Lois was the mother in-law. Tom was the irate father with shotgun in hand and Tim was the preacher. Another first prize winner was our own Pat Borcovan dressed as a toy soldier. She wore a bright red jacket, white slacks, and boots completing the costume with a large key and a stiff walk. Others present at this parfcv I were Gil and Larry Moore} | Richard Hawkins, Fred and jj Pam Woodbury and, Ed and I Irene Betke. ] A1 Bianchi took first prize at the Lake Region Sports Car Club Halloween party. A1 was covered from the top of his head down to his toes with inflated brightly colored balloons. Jerry and Lois Ryan also attended disguised as Gomez and Moricia Addams. The party was held in a barn near Crystal Lake. About forty members enjoyed an evening of dancing with a band and buffet. Other Parties The Iverson children luftl a Halloween costume party Friday evening. Twelve children sat around the table as a hot supper was served along with Halloween goodies. Several games were played with the party ending in front of the TV set as the children viewed ^heir favorite Friday evening programs too good to miss. ' Len and Dolores Lawrence and Len and Winnie Hansen attended a crazy mixed up bowling party in costumes with other friends in Chicago. They didn't know who their bowling partners were to be and the alleys were covered with balloons. After bowling they went dancing and enjoyed a buffet dinner. Front Ph. 385-5700 Delores Woolwlne gave a surprise birthday party on Halloween for her husband. She served many delicious salads and a birthday cake. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Earl Smith from Pistakee, Mr. and Mrs. Fran Clark from Lakeland, and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Stoudt from McHenry. Surprise visitors to wish Frank a happy birthday were the Don Hoeneses and Jack and Marie Dal ton. Teen Club Friday evening, Oct. 30, the teens had their Halloween party and scavenger hunt. Scavenger hunt winning team were Sue Betke, Mary Filip, and Dennis Moore who each won a free admission ticket to the next dance. Dance contest winners were Keith Butler and Karen Roby. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hagerup, teen counsellors, and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Halstead were chaperones. Popcorn, potato chips, and peanuts were served. The Teen Club will have a dance Saturday, Nov. 14, at 8 p.m. It will be held at the barn and ALL teens are invited. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hagerup will chaperone the dance with others. The Eastwood Manor Teen Club is always ready to welcome new members from the ages of 13 and older. Demonstration Parties Kay Heinmiller held a demonstration party in her home on Eastwood Lane Wednesday evening. Fifteen ladies attended. She served a sweet chocolate cake, yellow cake slices and coffee. Pat Rehberg had a very nice demonstration party in her home with eight women present for homemade cake and coffee. The gals learned much about the latest styles and colors. Birthday Greetings Tho it will be Friday the 13th we wish only luck and a very happy birthday to Dorothy Noonan and also to little Robert Heinmiller who will be celebrating his second birthday. Sunday, Nov. 15, Shelia Barry will be five and Susan Betke becomes sweet sixteen. Nov. 16 Michael Stuart will be 14 and Tommy Mersch will be just five. Greetings to Mel Iverson and Jack Mclntyre on the 18th. Anniversaries Mr. and Mrs. Harold Slove will be celebrating their wedding anniversary on Friday the thirteenth. Best wishes to Mr. and Mrs. Carl Schaeffer and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hagerup on Nov. 16. Nov. 18 Mr. and Mrs. Moyse Cary will always remember as their wedding day. Bunco Club Bunco Club was held in the Mitchell residence with Kay as hostess serving a sandwich loaf containing three types of sandwich spreads and frosted with cream cheese. Florence Tucker was the big winner of the evening carrying home with her al beautiful scatter rug. Bert Stoll won the bunco prize which waS-JMpretty bird cage hanging planter and Irene Bet- Lwon an oven mitt as her by prize. The gals all sang happy birthday to Georgia Sigma n whose birthday was the next day. Homemakers Homemakers met in the home of Kay Mitchell. Kay is the new chairman and Dee Penick is the 4-H chairman. Plans are being made to sell taffy apples in McHenry Nov. 20 to raise funds for the Busy Bee 4-H Club they sponsor. Kay served a delicious sandwich loaf and Dee Penick gave the monthly lesson. Brownies The little Brownies made their Thanksgiving projects of turkey calendars and practiced songs for their coming investiture. The Investiture will take place Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 8 p.m. at the Faith Presbyterian church. Refreshments will be served in the basement following the ceremony. Girls must be in complete uniform or dark skirt and white blouse. At this time the girls are to bring their contribution of canned goods for a basket to be given a needy family for their Thanksgiving. Bridge Club Bridge Club met in the home of Mary Hadley with Mary serving pizza. Pat Kellogg won first prize and Rita Simpson won the booby prize. 4-H Club News The Busy Bees 4-H Club meets Thursday, Nov. 19 from 4-5:30 p.m. at Dee Penick's, 2308 Manor Lane. All children from the ages of 10-19 are welcome to attend. Faith Presbyterian Church News Nov. 12, Thursday, Choir practice will be held at & p.m. and on Nov. 13, Friday, Junior Choir practice will be at 3:30 p.m.. • Nov. 14, Saturday, Confirmation classes meet at 10 a.m. Nov. 15, Sunday, There will be a Presbyterian Youth Rally at the First Presbyterian church in Sterling. A number of Senior High's from Faith church will be attending. Nov. 17, Tuesday, Brownie Troop 211 will hold its Investiture at 8 p.m. Nov. 18, Wednesday, A special meeting of the Session and Board of Deacons will take place at 8 p.m. Sympathy Tony Olson's mother, Mrs. Irene Inannacco, passed away in Chicago. All their friends and neighbors join us in extending our sympathies to Jim, Tony and the family at their great loss. Accident Marge Pickett is in the McHenry hospital where she just underwent surgery on her arm. Bone chips had to be removed. Let's all get busy and send a card of cheer to her. Don is a cashier and general accountant for a corporation in Barrington. He attends evening classes at Northwestern. He is on a bowling team league from his place of employment. Another hobby of his is scuba diving. Phyllis' one time hobby was silversmithing but now she is very busy being just a housewife and mother. Two year old Keith keeps her hopping every minute. They moved here from Hunterville Park. She says she heard that Eastwood Manor is a friendly place in which to live; let's all give them a warm greeting and big hello and make them feel welcome here. Around the Manor Hugh and LaVerne Saynor were guests at the Lake County Voiture installation of officers at the American Legion Home in Waukegan on Friday evening, Oct. 30. After the dinner those present were treated to the- songs of the Great Lakes Choir. The next day which was Saturday; Oct. 31, Hugh and LaVerne spent preparing the schlachtfest that was held that evening at the Woodstock American Legion Home. There was a pink and blue shower given Pat Coughlin in Chicago with twenty guests attending. Fancy sandwiches, jello molds, tiny cup cakes, and a large cake were served. She received many beautiful clothes for both herself and the new baby. Pat has been busy while waiting for the new arrival. She attended a bridal shower for a relative in southern Illinois where she did the honors of pouring the tea. She also attended the wedding which took place in Seneca, 111. Bob and Kay Mitchell had guests for dinner and the evening. They were her brother, James Hill, and wife, Helen Ann, with their baby son, Joseph, from Oak Park. Len and Dolores Lawrence and children went out to dinner in Antioch on their wedding anniversary. Sunday, in honor of Len Hansen's birthday, Dolores and Len Lawrence and Warren and Lois Krebs got together for cake and coffee at the Hansens. Frank Hoppe's daughter, Christine Guieffi, and children came to help him celebrate his birthday enjoying a nice cake for the occasion. Lydia Fenner and daughter, Cathy, went into the city to visit her father, Bruno Zgorski, who has been ill. Gil and Lariy Moore went out to dinner to celebrate their wedding anniversary. Larry Moore went to Wauconda to join her mother, Mrs. Golze, for lunch on her birthday. Ricky Moore is in the Naval Reserve. Soon he will go to reat Lakes for two weeks of t training. Little Richard Hawkins had a birthday party in the home of his sitter, Mrs. McGowan, in Sunset View. Thirteen children were present for birthday cake. The Kucks went out this lovely past weekend for their last boat ride of the season. It is now time to put the boats away until spring thaws bring them out again. Eleanor Kuck had as a dinner guest her cousin Lil Bonk. Wednesday evening Frank and Delores Woolwine went out for a very enjoyable evening with dinner in a restaurant near Lake Geneva. The organist played the birthday song and a birthday cake was brought to their table. Jerry and Lois Ryan journeyed to Chicago where Jerry was pallbearer for the funeral of his great uncle, George Frett, who passed away Sunday at the age of 75. Lois Ryan and her sis, Marian Anderson, went to Watertown, Wis., where they enjoyed luncheon and a visit with their friend, Mrs. Judy Cunningham. The James King family enjoyed a two week visit with his mother, Mrs. Lela King and brother, Lee, from Pittsburgh. Elwyn Eternick's mother, Mrs. Marian Eternick, from West Allis, Wis., is here for a three week's visit. Harry and Frieda Durkin went into Chicago to see the Chicago Bear football game as they played the Texas Cowboys at Wrigley Field. After the game they had a big Italian dinner in a restaurant. They also viewed the city from the Prudential Building in the loop. The Durkin children spent the day with their great uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. George Morgan, in Park Ridge. Sick List That nasty old flu bug has been visiting the smaller children this past week as he went to the homes of the Durkins, Mersches, Mitchells, and Penicks. Civil Defense Classes Carmen Hodges would like to have classes on civil defense if he can get together at least 20 interested persons. Please call Lois Ryan at 385-5377 for further details. Vandalism We had a little Halloween vandalism Friday evening, Complaints of stolen and broken pumpkins and the disappearance of a newspaper-stuffed costume used for yard decorations were given us. They wouldn't have minded so much had it been done Saturday night as then the children could have enjoyed seeing their Jack-o-lanterns lighted. One tiny girl spent two hours cleaning out and carving her very first pumpkin. The small kiddies were terribly disappointed to have these stolen or smashed on the road. Otherwise damage in the Manor was small. But let's remember others feelings and hold off on these small pranks. In Closing Again we say thanks for all your wonderful co-operation and many calls.
