Fry'l' &dton Two--- Page Four THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Wednesday* Nersmbs? M.-.-.U-- AC Ififti AW| A 0H1 Suhnyside Estates IBAK OLSBN 885-5740 PRE-HOLIDAY GATHERING FOR PALMER FAMILY Thanksgiving came early this year for the Harold Palmer family and it was such a success (no heavy traffic traveling to and from Evanston yet all the usual festivity and activity) that they are considering the same arrangement for next year! (Should the National Safety Council get wind of this, they'd probably attempt to promote it on the nation- wide scale!!) The Navy was the cause that effected this pre-holiday holiday. Marge's nephew Tommy Eaton was home on leave off the aircraft carrier Enterprise, and was due back on duty the 18th. So on the 14th it was "over the river and through the woods to Grandmother's house they went"--the car knew the way. room 126, 555 Watson Lane, Des Plaines. 111. Delores Hanahan and Lois Anderson visited Helen last week and report she is in good spirits. old one, thus they are now a No white and drifted snow, stfHwo car family. it was a perfect day for the children to play outdoors -- a boon that is seldom experienced on Thanksgiving. The entire family was present: the Eatons, the Hoyles, the Palmers, and of course Mom and Dad (Grandma and Grandpa). All the Thanksgiving ingredients (the football game, the food, refreshments, and conversation) were made ala mode by Tommy's first hand account df m cruise around the world on ythe Enterprise. The children were awed that someone they know has done "all these wonderful things." Marge reports that the gifts and art objects Tommy brought home were so unique it is impossible to describe them--in less than two volumes. Even though the calender didn't say so, it was truly a day of special thanksgiving for this very happy and lively family--and this reporter who has been a guest at some of these family gatherings can testify that it is always a lively, happy holiday when this complete family gathers together. -- no matter what the calendar says! Our Sympathy ... to Helen Wegner whose maternal grandmother, Mrs. Helen Martin, passed away on Nov. 14 at the age of 76, after a three year illness, in Jacksonville, Fla. When Helen's own mother passed away, Helen was only two, Mrs. Martin became her "mama" for the next five years, so the loss is great. Fortuitiousily, Helen spent her vacation in Jacksonville this year with her grandmother. Our prayers will be offered for the repose of her soul. Happy Anniversary Tomorrow to Dorie and Roy Gowin and to Tom and Delores Hanahan who both celebrate nine years and to Ruth and Helge Dettlow who» celebrate forty years together, on a day of double Thanksgiving, On the 29th to Red and Mary Davis -who chalk up seventeen years. On the 30th to Steve and Lorraine Major who are sporting a new two-car redwood garage on the occasion of their 24th anniversary -- 24 years? Good grief, Lorraine, I thought you were only 33 this year! May Our Lord bless each of you with many more years of wedded bliss. What?? This reporter has been informed by a reliable source that President Johnson has absolutely NOT been re-elected. --!!?? Wishing Well Wishes . . . t o Helen Kobus who is recuperating nicely and would love to receive cards and letters from her friends and neighbors: Forest Hospital, No-News-Noah News "Nothing. Nothing ever happens around here -- and then it suddenly comes in bunches," blurts LaVerne. And come it did--and in a bunch of as oddly assorted items as can be bunched into a bunch. A piano, a car, a puppy,--and two purple throw rugs! The upright was too^good a buy to pass up, so thanks to the help of the Caleys next door who helped,, move the piano, Debbie and LaVerne are now taking piano lessons from another neighbor, Ann Radtke, and really enjoying it. La Verne's sister, Joan Johnston, who just bought a new car, thought the Noahs could get some use out. of her in came a birthday cake, compliments of the management! It was such a lovely surprise that tears flowed between" the smiles, laughter, and melody of "Happy Birthday". Turkey Talk After you have traced; tricked, treated, and trussed the turkey; talked at him for him, and about him; trimmed, truffled, and trayed him; surrounded him with an array of food in an array of hue; take this lovely, luscious moment to give thanks to the Ultimate Cause, Our Creator, without Whom nothing would be possible. Then on to the tasty lurkey and tempting trims and have a very happy Thanksgiving Day. Christmas gift ' came early and presto: one pedigree Chihuahua pup: 5'a months old, weighing a grand total of 2; pounds, and is a "lap-hf>und" j LaVerne says, (not to be con-j fused with those which hale j from Lapland; this one simply loves to sit on anyone's lap!) This female bit of bark who has been named "Chi-ehi" was Joan's Christmas gift to the family. And to top it all off. Joan was the Noah's weekend house guest. Oh, yes, the' purple throw rugs were thrown in the lot by Mrs. Caley who felt they would just look perfect in LaVerne's lavender bedroom. --Well, some dull spell you'll be due for now, No- News-Noahs!! Christening "It was such a gloomy, rainy day and when we came out of church the sun broke through the clouds and shined so brightly" as if to symbolize the grace of Baptism, related Dorothy Stoffel about the christening day of her new littlq niece, Janet Kay Mlinar. Jim and Dorothy were Janet's sponsors on Nov. 15 in Waukegan. In addition to the obvious joy of'the day, little Peggy Stoffel was in a bit of the limelight also: birthday remembrances i from Grandma and her two J aunts who of course were also present for the day. SCIENCE THEME The power of truth over illusion will be a central theme at Christian Scieuce churches this Sunday. The hypnotic nature of evil will also be described in a Bible lesson on the subject: "Ancient and Modern Necromancy, alias Mesmerism and Hypnotism, Denounced." Featured will be this vivid passage from Revelation 12:9 "And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world." RAIilES INCREASE Nineteen cases of rabies were diagnosed during October, bringing the total thus far this year to 207. This is an increase of 58 over the total, 149, for t he same period a year ago. according to the Illinois Rabies Report. Happy Birthday Again to Ray Kropf, and Diane Noah today. (Forgot about the early date of this week's paper) Tomorrow on Thanksgiving to nine year old Mickey Siepman, a double day for him. On the 28th to twelve year old Sherwood Palmer and to fourteen year old Judy Walczynski. On the 29 th to a grand neighbor Kmma Jolvinsen. On the 30th to Phillip Voight and to Marty Jesski who both will be nine years old. On Dec. 1 to two year old Cynthia McCaulev. The spirit of your natal day could not help but be richer because of the spirit of this special holiday, "enioy, enjoy" and the returns will be bountiful.
