Our town basketball team is sponsoring a pancake breakfast in the community club hall and will be serving from 7:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. You can even bring all your "big eaters" along, as it is a "all you eat" deal. Be sure to circle the calendar and take the whole family out for the morning meal after going to church. Everyi one is welcome. Troop 88 News Mary Jo Kennebeck reports that the local Girl Scout troop has gotten off to a good start recently. At their meeting of Nov. 16 they started off by having a flag ceremony. Then the various patrols had their meetings. In the patrols, dues were collected and important matters were discussed. They also voted for an assistant patrol leader and a patrol treasurer. Their meeting of the 23rd also began with flag ceremony. The girls went to their various patrols and dis cussed the trip to the Plaindealer office. The forthcoming Christmas party plans were on the agenda for discussion. The girls enjoyed doing the Virginia Reel. The meeting was brough to a close and taps were sung. Holy Name Meeting Coming Up This Thursday evening, Dec 3, at 8 p.m., the officers and members of the Holy Name society will meet in the community club hall. All members are cordially invited to be on hand as there are special things on the agenda for this evening. We wish to extend best wishes to the Holy Name officers who were recently elected to head the society. They are Milton Croasdale as president, John Weingart as vice-president, Dan Schmitt as secretary and Tom Cahill as treasurer. Trees Will Be Available Soon Don't buy that tree until you get a look at the ones which will be spread throughout Joe Hiller's yard on St. John's Avenue in the very near future. The boy Foresters will again this year be on hand to help you make your selections. Support them by buying your Christmas tree from them. Basketball Notes. Our town team lost to Cary in the local gym last Sunday afternoon by a 98 to 87 score. On Tuesday of this week they were in Dundee and on Sunday, Dec. 6, they will meet the Wauconda team at 2:30 in the afternoon in Wauconda. At 8 p.m. on Dec. 9 our team will be host to the Marengo team. Why not try to get out and root these fellows on to victory. They will appreciate it and you will have a good time for yourself. A Son For The Bauers A strong healthy boy was welcomed by Marv and Kay Bauer Sunday, Nov. 29 at the Sherman hospital in Elgin. The first son of the young couple weighed a nice 8 lbs. 12 oz. on arrival. The Bauers also have a daughter, Debbie, who will be 2 on the l'8th of this month. Grandparents of the new baby are Hank and Lorraine Hiller of Johnsburg Road and Mrs. Olivia Bauer of McHenry Our very best wishes to all of them. Rescue Squad Calls On the 21st of November the members of the Johnsburg rescue squad answered a call at Pistakee Bay where a resident suffered a possible heart attack. He was taken to the McHenry hospital by ambulance. Phone 385-0723 next call took them to Whispering Hills. A resident was taken to the McHenry hospital for medical attention. The 29th the squad was called upon once again when a pedestrian received lacerations when hit by a car. He was taken to the hospital by the squad ambulance. These three calls have now brought the running count up to 2,427. Girl Juveniles To Hold Christmas Gathering On Sunday, Dec. 13, the members of the girl Foresters will gather in the community club hall for their annual Christmas party. Santa Claus has promised to make his appearance to distribute gifts to all those in attendance. The afternoon of fiin will get underway at 5 p.m. with the serving of supper. Each member who plans to be present for the party is asked to bring an exchange gift and a quarter to defray the food cost. This party is for all the juvenile members of St. Agatha court number 777. Pre-school through fourth grades are asked to bring a 25 cent gift, fifth through seventh, a 50 cent gift and eighth through high school a one dollar gift. The party will end at 7:30 in the evening. Girls attending this gathering must be Forester members. Thanksgiving Day Gatherings Frank and Laura Schmitt were real happy to have their two sons home for the holiday last week. Bob attends Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa, and Duane attends the University of Illinois in Champaign. Harold May and his friend, Marilyn Hoist of DesMoines, Iowa, spent the holiday with his family. Also guests in the May-Dehn home for Thanksgiving dinner were Mr. and Mrs. Art Kattner and daughter, Jean, and Mr. and Mrs. William Kattner. Close to thirty-five relatives and friends were in the Ed Hettermann home for the big turkey dinner last Thursday. Their three college students were also home to enjoy the holiday with the family. Later in the evening the group was surprised with a telephone call from the Jack Keenans from Pompano Beach, Fla. to wish them all a Happy Thanksgiving. Arnie and Clara Michels were hosts to the niece and nephew, Melinda and Robert Might, and friend, Scott Mitchell, all students of the University of Illinois, for Thanksgiving and the following weekend. Ever so happy to have their family here for the Thansgiving holiday were A1 and Mary Adams. Her parents were able to be present also which made the day doubly enjoyable. The family dinner was held in the home of their daughter, the Bill Haags. Sandy Hettermann was home from the St. Therese School of Nursing over the holiday. There were probably a lot more home for the holidays but I have no way of knowing unless I am informed. Infant Baptized The two week old son of Tom and Darlene Huemann was baptized by Father Dording at 2 p.m. last Sunday afternoon in St. John's church. The fourth child of the Huemanns was named Thomas Weldon. His sponsors were Barbara Huemann, an aunt, and Chuck Hiller, a friend. Later in the afternoon the sponsors and their families were in the Huemann home for the baptismal celebration. Also present were the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Weldon Andreas of Ringwood, and Joe and Vera Huemann. Congratulations Corner Belated birthday wishes to Duane Schmitt who turned 18 on Nov. 25. In line for sincere best wishes is Bill May on Dec. 2. He will be a young (and I do mean young) 65 years. Meyers Addition Number Six We wish to extend congratulations to Si and Bonnie Meyers who became parents for the sixth time last Sunday evening, Nov. 29. A young lad, who weighed 6 lbs. 14 oz. when he arrived at the Sherman hospital, is the fourth son for the couple. The baby's grandparents are the Ray Pages of McHenry and Mr. and Mrs. William J. Meyers. Waiting at home for their mother and new brother to come home are Jim, Mary Lynn, Patsy, Jeff and John. C.Y.J. To Meet The next meeting of the C.Y.J, will be held Sunday evening at 7:30 in the community club hall. Pledged Bruce Christensen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hakon Christensen of Spring Grove Road, recently was pledged,, to the Del ta Sigma Phi fraternity. Bruce is attending the Kansas State University. Heartbreaking News As in the past, with news of this type, I'm at a loss for words to express our feelings at a time like this. I'm sure most of you have read in this paper or some of the others of the deaths of Mr. and Mrs. Jeppe Jepsen's granddaughter and her two young children. Mrs/ Shirley Wallace, 28, and her children, Christine Marie, 7, and John, 3, were killed in a fire which swept their home on Nov. 22. Her husband, John, remains in serious conditio^ in Lake Forest hospital, as a re suit of smoke inhalation. Funeral services were conducted for all three on Friday. Mrs. Wallace's mother, the former Marie Christensen, col lapsed at the funeral home on Wednesday evening and was rushed to the Highland Park hospital where she is still a patient at this writing. A brother, Robert Tracy, flew in from Idaho where he is stationed with the air force. At this time it is indefinite as to when he will return there, de pending on the outcome of his mother's condition. Plan on that date, Dec. .12, for an evening of fun. Cub Scout Pack Meeting The first pack meeting of the season was held on Thursday, Nov. 19, with Thanksgiving as its theme. Den one presented a display table depicting the first Thanksgiving with the pilgrims landing on Plymouth Rock, log cabins and turkey made by the boys. Den two put on a skit with puppets about the first Thanksgiving. The following awards were given: Steve Schmidt, Silver arrow, Tom Weyland, Wolf badge, Mika Zawistowski, Bobcat Pin, Greg Schmidt, Bear badge, gold and silver arrow, Gary Connell, two silver arrows, Danny Ohlson, Denners stripe and three silver arrows, Jimmy McWilliams, silver arrow, Scott Lundelius, Bear badge, Phillip Not- Palmer, both of Spring Grove Road. We just cannot find the right words to try and console the Jepsens and the rest of their family at this sad time. Alan Estes was given special recognition for covering the entire subdivision of Fernwood, both delivering the bags and picking up the full ones. Next month's pack meeting will be the Christmas party with a 50 cent grab bag gift. Pack meeting will be held each month from now on. Foreman Infant Baptized Donald Eugene Foreman, infant son of Arlerte and Wally Foreman, was baptized by Father Rudden at St. Mary's Catholic church in McHenry. Donald's godparents were Helen Boettcher and John Todrazza. A turkey dinner was served to twenty guests in honor of this special occasion. Sympathy Our sincere sympathy is extended to Helen Grant and her family on the sudden death of her sister-in-law, Mrs. Doris Grant, 27, of Crystal Lake. Mrs. Grant was killed in an auto accident when her car collided with a truck during a severe snow storm on Friday, Nov. 20. Her two children, Thomas, 5, and Sandy, 3, also sustained injuries in the accident. Honor Roll Our heartiest congratulations to Ray Mettelka who is on the high school honor roll at McHenry high school. Any others?!? Give me a call. Today is a special day at our house. Our Wendy is five years old today, Dec. 3. A happy anniversary to Arlene and Herb Hill whose anniversary is today. I'm not sure how many so I'll play it safe.
