feettM 'hirto -- fog* Poor THE MeHENRY PLAINDEALfcR ThnWdny-. SUNNYSIDE ESTATES i*AN 6li8BI« 885-5740 two, BOY BAfitES tLADDEN HOMES t AREA COUPLES Two blue bundles from Heaven were added to the population of the Estates this past W&k, and just a day apart. /the Herb Anderson family Were the recipients of the first bundle. After a 4 a.m. dash to McHenry hospital on Dec. 6, MattheW James Anderson arrived at 10 a.m., weighing 6 lbs. 12 oz. Herb and Lois couldn't be more pleased about hkving another son, and big brother, Michael, finally has another male to help his odds against his three sisters. Lois reports that Matthew is fairsldnned, quite a good baby, and it's too soon to tell about anything else. The following day, at 5:55 a.rii., the Cecil Kanter family was presented with that other blue bundle at Harvard hospital, after a nip and tuck race lof Who would arrive first: Florence and Cecil arrived first, Eric Williams arrived just a few mihutes later, and the doctor came last, after all was said and done. Although Eric was twenty-five days early, he weighed a very healthy 9 lbs, 8 ozs., and reportedly is a very good baby. With two sisters and three brothers for constant companions, you're assured a full, lively future, Eric. Congratulations to the Andersons and the Kanters all on your new blessings from Heaven. Community Christmas --and the spirit has never bieen finer. By the time you read this edition, the community Christmas tree will be standing in all its floodlighted splendor at Grandview and Dennis Boulevard. Now for the trimmings. Kiddies: get out the foil, glitter, and anything else you care to use to make ornaments. Decorating the tree is up to you. Let's see what you can do. There are no restrictions on size, type, or quantity. Go to it. Drop off your creations at Bieschke's (the house next to this Christmas tree), Simmons (the corner of Grandview and Hilltop), or Palrhers (the west side of the skating pond). This is the first year the Estates has had a community tree, so let's make it a worthy one. Get busy. And Santa Claus is comin' to town to visit each of you boys and girls in your own homes on Dec. 20. So have your letters ready to give to Santa when he comes to your door. You'd better watch out and better not cry! Remember, Sunday, Dec. so. We don't know just what time he'll get to each house, so be ready, for him anytime. Be extra good, now. Christmas is awful near. N. B.: Marge DeFrancisco is having such fun working on these Christmas projects, it Seems only logical that we give her an opportunity to continue her pleasure: hereby begins the "Draft DeFrancisco for Entertainment Chairman" movement! YES, We Will ... have an ice skating pond again this year, thanks to allaround cooperation: the new owners of that lot have given permission for said use, the water company is again graciously allowing the use of water from the pump house, and Dave Zeiger and crew have volunteered (?) to keep it flooded. There will be a skate exchange again (operating out 0# Palmer's basement) under the usual terms: you may exchange any size or type skate for any other in the skate exchange with only a 30c service charge which is used for shar- Wmhhs special vr petting, cleaning, and lacing all incoming skates. And you just can't hardly find such agreeable terms like those anywhere these days. To finance plowing, lighting, and shelter at the skating pond there will be a one dollar season fee per family. Another bargain. So come, one and all and join in the fun at the top of Indian Ridge. The pond isn't just for the kiddies or the hockey enthusiasts: it's also for Mommies and Daddies who want to get out for an hour or two for some good laughs--or serious skating, if you're so inclined. From the Holiday Mail Bag From Chet and June Banker: "We would love to hear from and see any and all of our exneighbors. We really miss Sunnyside and all the wonderful people. If anyone should just happen to get stuck in the "Big Town" due to the weather or just want to have a cup of coffee or visit for awhile, how about coming up to the "Cliff Dwelling Bankers' " ? We are on the 16th floor overlooking the lake and are very easy to find at 5000 South Cornell; Apt. 16C. Any and all are welcome. "Dennis is in college in Arkansas and will be home for Christmas: the first place he plans to visit after leaving his dirty clothes here will be Sunnyside. "We follow the column avidly. After Chet and I read the Plaindealer we send it on to Dennis, so you see the paper really gets around. "We wish all a Merry Christmas and every happiness in the New Year." To the Bankers: your warm wishes are returned a hundredfold by all of us here in the Estates, whether or not we'll be able to extend them in person and share a cup of good cheer. From Dad and Mom Kimbro in Tullahoma, Tenn.: "Oh, it is so good to get your column each week. You have a lot of new names, tho . . . Velma and Chris were good (reporters) too . . . We enjoyed our visits from our friends this year so very much. But the weather was the hottest when poor Joan was here (but) so glad they could come ... I guess you know Dad has diabetes ... The tablets control it ... He feels good most of the time. I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and we will be thinking of you.# Love to all." To the Kimbros: Your letter is like a visit. So^eome up and meet some of these "new names" when it warms up here in the North. And may your Christmas be merry and bright. Mary Lemmens on May Avenue, who will be enjoying their fifty-first anniversary. On the 19th also to Herb and Mary Rose who will begin their twenty-second year together. Is that possible? May God grant each of you many more full and happy years together. Candle Capers To Terry Kanter, Teddy Voight, Dave Kuechel, Kimmy Olsen, and Deedee Williams, Dec. 8 meant more than "no school for St. John's": it meant "we're going to Cindy Bott's birthday party." Needless to say, it meant that and even more to Cindy and her brothers, Mike and Kenny. The games department had a shattering moment when the milk bottle broke, but replacement was soon found and the clothespins again zeroed in. Walking across the floor with a potato on one foot proved to be an interesting fete--which Teddy Voight was the first to master. The group enjoyed hot chocolate with the usual run with the noise-makers -- even of goodies, and had a blast after they arrived back home! And now Cindy is having a ball with her new iron, ironing board,' and toaster wbich her birthday added to her "kitchen". Once upon a time, not too terribly long ago, Cindy Simmons had a birthday party that is still a big thing in the memories of her little guests, Carol Pinkonsly, Darlene Gerke, Monica and . Maureen Davis, and" of course brother Buster. Twisting was the biggest deal at the party, and they all did their best to walk the floor carrying a peanut on a spoon. Daddy and Mommy have colored prints of all this to help recall Cindy's big day, and Cindy hardly needs any assistance aside from her precious memories per se. WONDER LAKE NEWS MAfrY LOU HAltTOQ 863-7170 Install Tops Club Officers Last Wednesday the Wonder Lake TOPS Club held their installation of officers. Five officers were installed and will take over their duties on Jan. 6 which is the first meeting of the new year. The only refreshments served at the installation ceremony was diet cola. This is one organization which doesoiot go in for serving tho usual caloric cakes, pies, etc. In fact at regular meetings absolutely no refreshments of any kind are served. This is not a social organization. They are all business and their business is losing weight. Wonder Lake chapter alone has been credited with a loss well over 500 pounds of excess poundage since they started 15 months ago. If you are interested in this organization call the leader at 653-2945 for more information. Do not call me as I am no longer leader of the group. Newly weds Return from Honeymoon Billie and Dick Russell, a bride and groom of two weeks, returned from Pennsylvania last week and\spent five days at the home of the Jack Russells in Highland Shores, before leaving for Ardmore, Okla., where Dick is attending American Pilot's school. They will make their home in Ardmore until Dick finishes his schooling. Happy Birthday Tomorrow to Tom Felicetti. On the 19th to four year old Eddie Matuszak, Jr. On the 20th to Kathy Wegner who will be an even 10 years old. On the 21st to Gloria Von Oepen. On the 23rd to John Fiedler, Norma Gunn, and to twelve year old Paul Voight. May the spirit of this happy season add much to your birthday joys. Katherine Walker Named Honor Member Of Year Each year at the annual Christmas party of the Altar and Rosary sodality one member is singled out for a special honor--Woman of the Year-- The voting is done by secret ballot and a woman whom the organization feels has done the most to help out during the year and has given of her time unselfishly is chosen for the award. This year's winner was Mrs. Katherine Walker. Any time there is an activity going on<at Christ the King church you will always find "Katy" there doing more than her share without any fanfare or special bid for recognition. They could not havie given the award to a more deserving person. Congratulations, Katy! Home For Weekend It was nic6 to see Walterine Rochwicz home for the weekend. "Wallie" is a student at St. Dominic's in St. Charles. She was bridesmaid at a wedding in Chicago oh Saturday and spent Sunday at homie here at the Lake. Starting next week she will be home for a full month on Christmas vacation. Youngster Swallows .Wl*oHg Medicine Jim Blum and his wife were a couple of very frightened people last Saturday when they noticed the high chair by the refrigerator and on top--next to the cough medicine was an almost empty bottle of medicine containing sulfa which had been full a short time before. Their young son had climbed up on the chair and reached the bottle and drank it. Jim took him to the Woodstock hospital immediately and the young man spent the weekend there under observation. He will be alright now, I am happy to report. We should all learn from it, however, and keep bottles or boxes containing medicine or other harmful contents where inquisitive little hands can not reach. Christmas Party for Legionnaire's Children The children of American Le gion members and of Legion auxiliary members will be fortunate indeed next Sunday when they will attend a Christmas party being held especially for them at the Legion hall. The party will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. Tiny the Clown will be there and also a puppet show for the entertainment of all. There will also be a Christmas tree Karen Schneider, the Estates' chairman for the Cerebral Palsey Foundation annual drive, informs us that the 53 minute march will be extended to two weeks this year, to allow convassers to take advantage of the best weather during this period of time. The march will take place sometime in early January. Happy Anniversary Tomorrow to Hank and Claudia Garn who are celebrating their eleventh ( ?) year of marital madness -- and loving it more all the time. On the 19th to Emil and Through a Glass, Frostedly Answering the knock on her door, Mrs. . Emma Johansen found two well bundled little fellas on the other side of her steamed-up storm door: "Hey kin yer brudder come out an play wit me?" asked the larger of the two. Smiling to herself, Mrs. Johansen opened her steamed-up door, whereupon the little guy quickly rephrased his question: "Kin yer kids come out an' play?" he asked even more eagerly.--and before he got around to correcting that to 'yer granchildren', Mrs. Johansen apologetically informed them that no little ones are in permanent residence at her address, and handed them each a cookie to fortify them on their friendfinding journey. Reporter's Note: Whoever these two little fellas were, they must be newcomers because Mrs. Johansen didn't recognize them. Send them up the street a few more doors, mother, and they'll find more little friends than they'll know what to do with!! We'll be expecting you. S^etm & Son *%£22l &(om» and presents and refreshments. The next American Legion adult party will be their annual gala New Year's Eve party with "fiin, favors, and frivolity." ^hey will again have a top orfchfestfa for your dancihg ahd refreshments will be served. Why travel out of town for New Years Eve when you can have the best time of your life right here in home territory. Auction Held At Builders Supply Hancock Drive was 4 btifcy place last Saturday and parking space was at a minimum when Ivar Fredrickson's Wonder Lake Builders Supply Co., held a public auction. Everything went -- lock stock and barrel. The auction started at 11 p.m. Th'e sale included everything the buildings, land, equipment, lumber, t o ol s, trucks, office furniture, etc. Thus ends a business which started over 20 years ago in Wonder Lake. headline Time That time is here again when you arid I play a game called "Deadline". It is played like this--The powers that be from the paper tell me and I in turn tell you that because of the holiday the deadline for news is TONIGHT and if you want news in next week's paper you must let me know by TONIGHT or it won't get in and you in turn don't pay the slightest bit of attention to me and come along on Sunday with your news as usual and then get "miffed" when I tell you it is too late. We play this game before every holiday and so far "John Q. Public" is still the winner. However, I will try once more: Deadline for news is tonight as I must turn it in tomorrow morning. If you have news items for this coming week please call tonite. Kiwanis Ctab tajfefeftbiK ' Viva-La President!-- Jim Robinson was fittingly greeted his first night as the new president. But she loves practical ones, too. And probably the most wanted practical gift of all is an dlsctri© dishwasher. Nothing else she can own saves her so many endless houfs of drudgery. Come to think of H, how could a gift be more personal* or look prettier to her? With just a flick of a switch a dishwasher washes, rinses, and dries... all automatically. Glasses, dishes, and flatware come out sparkling, without water spots or towel streaks. Everything is gashed and rinsed in water hotter than^ bands.., even gloved hands.«. can stand. Then it's dried in pure, clean, electrically heated air that's far more sanitary than any dish towel. Vou can now get a portable dishmslkf, if you like, th&t does every bit as good a job. Portables need no plumbing connections, and they caa be permanently installed in a new kitchen later. You'll be surprised how little it costs to give your wife the happiness that comes with a new electric dishwasher. See the built-in and portable models at your electric appliance dealer's now. And a Merry Christmas to you bbth. Public Service CsOt}ipany
