Mrs. Betts was traveling west on the McCullom Lake Road prepared to turn into Gate 6 when she was struck by a vehicle driven by Mrs. Pamela Kosmicki of Wonder Lake, who was eastward bound. Both women were alone in their cars. Mrs. Betts was taken to Mc- Henry hospital, treated for shock and bruises and released. Mrs. Kosmicki was scheduled to see her family physician. The Bett's vehicle was reported to be a total loss, while considerable damage was done to the front end of the other car. According to Chief of Police Earl Murray who investigated the accident, Mrs. Kosmicki was ticketed for driving too fast for conditions. Wedding Bells Ring Today . For Mrs. Virginia Parkhurst of W. Parkview and Mr. Frank Delia of Maywood at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic church. Father Baumhofer will recite the nuptial Mass. Mrs. Parkhurst will be attended by her daughter, Karen, while Mr. Delia's son, Victor, will serve as best man. An afternoon reception will be held at McHenry Country Club and following this the newly wedded couple will leave for a week's wedding trip. They will make their home on W. Parkview. Our very best wishes to them as they start the New Year and a new life together. Generosity Aids Stricken Couple • An idea which started with "Lillian Hansen and was turned over to the Ladies of the Lake resulted in a wonderful Christmas for Gert and Chet Helwig *who have certainly had their 'share of adversity. Just a year ago, Chet was hospital* *ized in McHenry, and for some time his life was in jeopardy. . This holiday season, it was •Gert who was stricken with a . heart attack and was also a patient at McHenry hospital for some time. Knowing how rapidly medical and living expenses mount up, several women contacted residents in the community and a donation from the ladies' organization's wellfare fund was used. The results were two hundred dollars for the Helwigs which •brought a flood of tears from 'both! These two have contributed much of their own funds and time for the community good when they were able. A grateful village reciprocated. Cerebral Palsy Fund Drive Begins The month of January will be utilized to collect funds for the Cerebral Palsy fund which used the money to aid the stricken and to continue research to find a cure for this crippling and killing disease. Mrs. Allan McKim is general chairman and will be very happy to have volunteers to solicit from door to door. If you have about one hour to give to the worthiest of causes, please contact her at 385-3141. Christmas morning. After suffering severe abdominal pains for a few days and receiving medication, his parents were fearful of an attack of appendicitis. X-rays and other laboratory tests revealed internal inflamation caused by flu virus and the very happy lad came home Saturday. Mama delivered some of his gifts to the hospital so the day would not be a total loss for the little guy. Roger is coming along fairly well and should be in shape to resume his studies at vacation's end. His sister, Cheryl, was also slightly indisposed, but rallying rapidly. "The Rod of Purification" Should be administered THOROUGHLY to promote "hot. bottoms" to the youngsters (we really mean BRATS!) who have been stealing light bulbs in the area east of Gate 3--N. Orchard Drive. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Berquist and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kurth are a few of the many residents who went to considerable expense and effort to provide beauty for the holiday season and have suffered loss. The Berquists were forced to remove some of the gorgeous lightly because the thefts were mounting alarmingly. The Chinese are reputed to deal severely with mischievous children and this might be the answer! Never before has our community looked so beautiful with the many ingenious decorations and it is a shame to ruin the festive atmosphere because of wanton destruction! Santa Claus Pays Annual Call Santa made his annual visit to the McCullom Lake beachhouse, Sunday. Dec. 20, when over sixty village small fry voiced their hearts' desires to the jolly gent. Santa, radiating the Christmas Spirit of joy and happiness, gave each child a stocking of candy and trinkets as a taken of "things to come" Aiding and abetting the welcome visitor were Rich Johnson, chairman, Frank Kurth, Gene Huff and Roger Kinsey. The Cullom-Knoll association sponsored the yearly affair. Stockings which were left over were dispatched to the Woodstock Children's Home which spread the cheer even farther. Hats off to the great guys, who are always on the scene to give to our second generation! Take Heed Warning signs have been posted by the village road commission at the intersections along Parkview. When the kids return to school next Monday, traffic will be hazardous during bus loading time in the morning and afternoon. This is just one more feature to insure safety for the children. NOW, let us hope the wee ones will co-operate also with motorists and STAY OFF the main highway at Gate 6. Many complaints have been voiced by drivers, of children running back and forth across this intersection unnecessarily. The Valley View bus loads on the north side of the blacktop, but the youngsters can exercise caution! Younger Son Hospitalized Christmas Day Roger Thacker, the 9 year old son of Barbara and Chuck Thacker, was taken to McHenry hospital in the early hour of Students Home For Holidays A hearty welcome to students who are continuing their studies and were able to spend the holidays with their families. Those enjoying home cooking include future nurses Sandy Josserand, Springfield hospital; and Elayne Godina of Grant Nursing School, Chicago. "Kollitch kids" are Ken Nelson, S.I.U.; Arnie Berry, Lewis College; Ted Olsen, Bradley U., Terry Murray, also Bradley; 2)o IJ0U J(nM OW Soommeeoonnee l/i jfeeww ^TSJco wn The Welcome Wagon Representative would like to call on them and extend a welcome to the community. f Please Call the Representative Below tut ome on l^epreden ta tive Adelaide B. Patzke Phone 385-3278 John Boyle, Loyola; and Chrys Levesque, MacMurray. Glenn Gates was home from his army training for a brief while. Welcome to any we may have missed. "Holi-Daxe" Earl Nelson has a new nickname as a result of his company's Christmas party. Henceforth, be so bold as to call him "Snowflake"! He and Gene Shigley had a wonderful time at a Chicago hotel where the affair was held. The only reason Gene (Twinkletoes) didn't bring home another dancing trophy--notontest! Shucks.^It is his favorite pastime. Gert Helwig was happily surprised when several people dropped in last Sunday afternoon to greet her with happy birthday. All was very quiet because of^lhe state of her health, but Chet did • have a cake for her. She was greeted by Chet's brother and family; Lil and Dave Hansen; Elma and Earl Nelson; Jake and myself; and a few other relatives. Birthday greetings To Shelby Lundy who will be 11 and to Ted Olsen who turns 18, both on Jan. 2 . . . Our little fella, Matt, will be 6, Jan. 3. No other birthdays to report. The stork takes a holiday about this time of the year, we guess. Sincere Apologies To our very dear friends in the area who received no Christmas greetings from this pen. Just one chore this reporter couldn't manage. My only regret concerning the holiday which was "nigh onto" perfect. It won't be the fault of new II t! PROFE^iOnRL DIRECTORS' •I EARL R. But as you grow older, the hourglass begins to have a different significance. Now you see the grains of sand as passing time--almost as if it were being snatched away from you. And there is a kind of desperation watching it go. Why? Because never again can we recapture these minutes, hours, days! But let's not bemoan the passing of time. Let's determine to take advantage of those grains of sand which we still cup within our hands. It's really never too late to begin again. God has revealed this important fact of life to us again and again throughout His teachings. Discover it for yourself by going to church. THE CHURCH FOR ALL ALL FOR THE CHURCH The Church it (he greatest factor on earih for the building of char* acter and good citizenship. It it a storehouse of spiritual values. Without a strong Church, neither democracy nor civilization can survive. There are four sound reasons why every person should attend services regularly and support th# Church. They «re: (I) For his own sake. (2) For his children's sake. (3) For the take of his community and nalion. (4) For the sake of the Church itself, which needs his moral and materia! support.
