Harold Freund, who has been the club's secretary for the past sixteen years, is the new president. Serving with him is Dick Hiller as vice-president, Tom Oeffling, secretary, and Tom Huemann, treasurer. Club directors are: Fred Smith, Ben Schmitt, Bud Miller, Stanley Freund, Si Meyers and Hank Miller. We wish these men success in the year ahead with their duties as the pfficers of the Johnsburg Community Club. Announces Engagement Mr. and. Mrs. William Meyer of 3808 N. Spring Grove road recently announced the engagement of their daughter, Lynn Marie, to Clifford Odell of Southhampton, New York. Lynn is a R.N. working at St. Therese hospital in Waukegan and her fiance is a petty officer in the Navy, now stationed at Bath, Maine. The young couple plan an April 24 wedding. Much happiness is extended to this couple from all their friends. Christmas Visitors Pat and Mary Hiller entertained their family and other relatives on Christmas Day for dinner. Enjoying the Hiller hospitality were the Louie Schmitt family, the families of Bob Knox, Paul Hiller and Don Bentz, also Lee Hiller and Bernadette Wegener. Hospital Patients The old year closed out by finding many of our residents hospitalized. In the Woodstock hospital we found that Katherine Althoff was listed as a patient. Bill Smith entered there also last week and we are hoping he is home by the time this comes to print. Bill May made a quick trip to the same hospital one night last week but was released a day and a half later. He is feeling pretty "chipper" now. Karl Anna was released from the McHenry hospital after being a patient there for awhile. Undergoing knee surgery in the Mc- Henry hospital last Thursday morning was Richard Dehn. He returned home on Sunday for a lengthy recuperation period. To all of these we wish much health in the new year and we hope this year is kinder to them. Juvenile Meeting Coining Up The juvenile members of St. Agatha court 777, W.C.O.F., will hold their regular meeting next Monday evening, Jan. 11, at 7 p.m. in the community club hall. All members are urged to attend as some special things are being planned for this evening. Snow Ball Dance Ticket Reminder Everyone is quite aware of the forthcoming Snow Ball dance being sponsored by St. John's Home and School Association on Jan. 16, I'm sure. But the committee would appreciate it if the members would turn in the ticket money as soon as possible. They would like to have some idea as to how many will be in attendance on this date. So if you have ticket money, please turn it in as soon as possible. If you are looking for a ticket for this dance, please contact any of the members. They will be more than happy to accommodate pgur needs. Be sure to be tendance as everyone is promised a good time. Youths Hoping For Lots Of Snow The members of St. John's C.Y.J. are hoping for loads of snow for next Saturday, at least. They are going up to Twin Lakes for an afternoon of skating and tobaggoning. Have you ever tried to go tobaggoning with no snow ? -- no fun. All high school youth are invited to participate in the outing which will begin at 1 o'clock and they will return at 5 o'clock. At that time a pizza party will be held at Tomasello's. All in all it should be tons of fun for these youngsters. So let's hope there is snow for Saturday anyway. All the members of the C.Y.J, report a very successful pancake and sausage breakfast last Sunday. Basketball Notes Congratulations to the town Forester basketball team who won the K. C. tournament last Sunday by beating McHenry by a score of 68 to 63. The previous Sunday they defeated the Cary team by a 72 to 63 score. This week they will oppose Rictunoiid on Wednesday at 8 pjtn. On Sunday, Jan. 10, at g 2:30 they will play Dundee here. " . Congratulations also to St. John's varsity and junior varsity for winning their games against St. Joseph of Harvard in the Marian gym Sunday afternoon. Mardi Gras Coming Sgon Another dance is coming up in the near future. The Jak- Ana Heights Association will sponsor their annual affair in the community club hall, on Saturday, Jan. 30. This year's theme will be in the Mardi Gras motiff. If you want to come in costume, all the more fun,'but it is optional. Plan to get your tickets soon. Double Reason For Celebration Jan. 15 is a special day in the Martinec home. Bill and Ruth will be observing their twenty-seventh wedding anniversary and Bobby will be celebrating birthday number 12. Man^ happy returns to the threesome. Rescue Squad Calls The 1965 year starts out quite badly as far as calls answered by our Johnsburg rescue squad are concerned. This past week they were called out four times, bringing the running count up to 2,435. On the last day of the old year they were summoned to Pistakee Highlands where a nineteen month old youngster was believed to have swallowed turpentine. He was taken to the McHenry hospital to have his stomach pumped. At 3:15 a.m. on the 1st of January, the squad answered a call to Sunnyside where a resident suffered a possible heart attack. He was taken by ambulance .to the hospital. On the 2nd they returned to Sunnyside once again. At 10:40 a.m. they took a fifteen year old girl to the. McHenry hospital for medical attention. Pistakee Highlands was their destination on Jan. 3 at 10:05 p.m. A resident suffered lacerations about the face and a possible broken nose in a home accident. He was taken by the squad to the hospital for further treatment. Meeting Reminders The Blessed Virgin Sodality will meet in the community club hall on Jan. 12, at 8 p.m. their regular meeting. Mrs. Burton worked with the sewing and baking group while Mrs. Penick worked with the handicraft and photography groups. Later in the month they had their regular monthly meeting. Four girlsf gave talks. Melody Iverson showed several snapshots she took herself with her camera. Debbie Pickett told about and showed the parts of the camera. Cynthia Jones and Connie Jablonski passed out cookies they had baked themselves and told how they made them. Mrs. Penick served lemonade. They discussed taking turns bringing the refreshments. The next project meeting will be the second Thursday in January and the next regular business meeting of the Busy Bees will be held on the third Thursday in January. Anyone from the ag<^ of 10 to"19 interested in belonging to oik club will be welcomed to attend. (Meetings are held in -1hehome of Mrs. Penick at 2308 W. Manor Lane in Eastwood Manor. Altar and Rosary Meeting Tonight, Thursday, is the regular monthly meeting of the Altar, an,d Rosary Sodality at Christ the King school hall. Rosary in the church at 8:15 followed by a very interesting meeting in the school, hall at --Si30 p.m. Choir Rehearsal irist the King youth choir will rehearse at 7:30 Mondays in | the church. This choir is open to those in high school and older. More members are needed in the adult choir which sings at the 10:30 Mass on Sundays. Holiday Vacationers Mrs. E. Banks and daughters, Lily and Yvonne, motored to Richland Center, Wis., on Dec. 26 and spent two days with friends. On Tuesday of last week they visited friends in Kenosha. Greetings From The ' Deep South v Susan Watkins, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Raymond Watkins, was home for the holidays from the University of Southern Mississippi, at Hattiesburg, Miss. Susan reports that the north, the snow, home and all the "Yankees" look real good. Living and going to school in the south is very nice, but nothing is as nice as coming home to Wonder Lake. The announcement of the quarter finals shows Susan Watkins again on the Dean's list with an average of better than 3.25 and shows that graduates of McHenry high and Wonder Lakers carw really go and get them. In addition, Susan has been representing the university on the debate team, making numerous trips throughout the southland. President Jim Robison read a Christmas card from Governor Hill. Jim also distributed committee folders to all the committee chairmen. Tonight we were planning to honor Floyd Leigh, who just stepped down from the presidency, however Floyd has been "subbing" for some of his employees and couldn't get away. Those present were Mesdames Fiala, Frazier, Gillette, Hoppe, Johnson, Murphy, Nelson, Ottoson, Zanders, the hostess Mrs. Kopp and president Mrs. Wielock. Mrs. Kopp had her home decorated very beautiful and an atmdsphere of the t.fue Christmas spirit * ran through the house. Alter a -very short meeting games were played. Mrs. Elsie Hoppe was the fun maker for the evening and the games played were both stimulating and rollicking. Try breaking balloons, in so. many minutes and in a most unusual way. It is real fun. Finally--The Holiday basket was finally. put up at the post office on Christmas eve. This would have been up sooner if Ihe flu bug had not bitten Mr. Ottoson. He is the one who is elected to do the job, but he had to wait3- until he felt well enough to get up on a ladder before getting- the basket up.
