John's Home and School Association is to be congratulated on the endeavor which took place last Saturday evening. Everyone ASvho participated at the Snow Ball dance were delighted with the interior decorations. A lot time and thought, as well as heaps of "elbow grease," went into making this evening the fun. it was for all in attendance. Of course the music was to everyones liking, no matter what they cared to dance, the orchestra played it. Like I said ^before the committee deserves lots of credit. We who were present in the community club for the affair hope the association makes this an annual affair. We are looking, forward to the third annual dance. Hospital Patients Our old year closed out with quite a few of our residents hospitalized, and this year doesn't seem to be going any better. Albie Adams is in St. Therese's hospital as a result of what coyld have been a most disastrous accident. He was working on some outdoor welding when an explosion occurred and threw him into the air. He suffered severe hip and leg injuries. We know he will be confined to the hospital for several weeks and then 'he faces a Jong, long recuperation period. Try to make his time ga a trifle faster by letting him hear from you by either card or letter. It will be greatly appreciated I know. Bill Oefflirv.; returned home from Sherman hospital last Sunday after undergoing knee surgery there on Tuesday. He will be hobbling along on crutches for quite a spell. We wish him a speedy recovery and hope he is back in the sports spot light real soon. Sewing Guild Meets At the recent meeting of he Pink Ladies Sewing Guild of the Women's Auxiliary to the McHenry hospital held in the home of Isa Braenne, the members were reminded what to sew for February. Among the sixteen ladies present at this time were Tiilie Ahrens. Mildred Kojiwdy and Esther Knapp. of this area. The served a most delicious dessert luncheon to all in attendance. An enjoyable afternoon was had by all. Fathers Pass On Two of our local men lost their fathers' within these past two weeks. Our sympathies c.re extended to Ed Todd of River Terrace Drive, and his mother, Er'na, uj.-on their Mr. Todd passed away at iiis home on J.ui. 11 at th>* ago of 80. He is also survived by two daughters ;;nd two grandsons. Funeral servicer were COJIdufted wii'h ourial in Hillside. Sympathies are also extended to Bill Beutel who also lost his father this past week. Mr. Beutel had been ill with a hc.tr' condition for quite a long lime. His wife and another son also survived. Dniishter Welcomed Willie and Estelle Klapperich of Hillciest Place welcomed their fourth child and 'first daughter on Jan. 15 at ihe McHenry hospital. Elizabeth Rose weighed 6'^ lbs. when she arrived. Her three big brothers are Keith, Everett and Loren. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hiiler are the maternal grandparents. Eellew at the opening day at the Hialeah race track on J;»n. 16. The Belle \vs are very ^or.d frk?nds of Mr. and Mrs. George Tiissey. Mr. Bellow is the trainer of Dark King, who won on the opening day race. This made the day most enjoyable for all. Town Team Continues Winning: Streak On the 14th of this month, our town basketball team tucked another victory under their belt when they won over Woodstock by a 96 to 78 score. Last Sunday they defeated Richmond, 98 to 87. After the business on hand was taken care of installation of officers took place. Diane Fuhler was installation chairman. She installed the following officers, Vern Ehredt president, Lawrence Schuerr, first vice-president, Herb Polinski, second vicepresident, Ruth Young, secretary and Pearle Stinemari, treasurer. They were completely taken by surprise when Ihey entered and found about 250 relatives and friends there to extend congratulations. The Veselys have resided in the" Bay area for the past 120 years. Girl Scout News " • • Mary Jo Kennebeck reports to me what hel^troop has been doing through the past weeks. On Dec. 14, of this week^w^ went straight to our patrols and made invitations, to invite our mothers to the Christmas Party. We then collected dues. Also we practiced ,for the Christmas party. On Dec. 21, we had our Christmas party. We went caroling at the hospital for a start. When we came bark we had a candlelight -ceremony and then we ale. .. Later there was a premedication cerehiony, and to end our meeting Santa Claus came and gave out our grab bag gifts. On Jan. 4 we started by going to our patrols, collected dues, and voted, on badges for pur patrol to do together. We ended our meeting with a flag ceremony. On Jan. 11 we began our meeting by going to our patrols and then had a flag ceremony. ^We also played a game, did badgework, and closed tfye meeting with' taps.
