The program scheduled for this month is a speaker on highway -safety.. It should prove to he very interesting meeting to all, so please try to attend. Also, according to the schedules sent out at the start of the school year, in February there is a square dance which will be held on the 23rd of February at 8:15. Plans will be made on Tuesday for this coming affair. All interested persons should make ah extra effort to come and voice their opinion as to getting the committees set up. ° The officers are at a loss as to what can be done to bring out more persons to these meetings. Train Hits Auto Fridav Morning The 7 a.m. Chicago bound North-Western commuter train struck an aulo driven by Phillip Bjeming of Genoa City, Wis., on Friday morning. The accident occurred at the crossing on the school blacktop road near Wiedrich's farm, causing undetermined injuries to the young man, who was taken to McHenry hospital by the Richmond Rescue Squad. The commuters were a half hour late in arriving at their destination since it did not arrive at the Ringwood depot until almost 7:15. This will be an increase of 25,000 over the number of junior members enrolled in the auxiliary in 1964. McHenry Unit 491 has over 100 junior auxiliary members. The Legion Auxiliary's Juniors are girls under the age of eighteen, and are now largely the daughters of World War II veterans. They carry out a broad program of interesting activities which give them training for auxiliary leadership and American citizenship. The Juniors are organized into a separate group within our unit, with,,their own officers and their own meeting. Presently Bonnie Einspar is president; .Mary Pat Mrachek, vice president; Kathy Durkin, secretary; Marianne Einspar treasurer; Jbann Weichmann, historian; Judy Nomo, chaplain;, Allison Hansen, sergeantat- arms; and Marfha Siqnpson, assistant sergeant - at - arms; These officers conduct their own meetings every third Saturday of the month. At our last meeting the Juniors constructed over 200 tray favors to be distributed to the veteran patients at Downey hospital. Their activities are suited to their ages. The Viscounts and Vi-Kette color guards are all Junior auxiliary members and represent McHenry Unit 491 all over' the slate in competition with other color guards in the midwest circuit. At the age of eighteen, the Juniors graduate into senior membership. For all ages, Americanism is an important activity. We want them to unde?*stand and value their American, heritage of freedom, so that they will be able to exercise it with intelligence and be determined to defend it against all dangers. Junior Americanism Chairman Janet Homo joined ^our senior chairman, Lauretta Homo, in presenting a flag to the newly dedicated McHenry library. Junior members work with the seniors in activities for the welfare of disabled veterans and needy children of veterans. Our special project for this year, crossword puzzles pasted to old greeting cards, is progressing nicely. Two of our Junior members, Debbie and Patti Pickett, have put together 400 of these cards which are helping to pass the hours for many veterans at Downey hospital.
