MCCULLOM LAKE NEWS EVE LEVESQUE 885-3191 LOCAL POLICE T6 TICKET MOTORISTS WITHOUT LICENSES In accordance with the extension granted by the State police, our local department will give motorists two weeks grace to obtain the 1965 license plates, according to Chief Earl Murray. Ticketing for this violation will begin Monday, March 1. Also be advised that on and after this date, owners of vehicles must have the plates installed on the cars. According, to village clerk, Epnma Pyritz, the new vehicle stickers are also available and car owners are urged to purchase them now.C Her address is 5218 W. Fountain Lane. Good Luck Omens For New Bride If one can believe in the many superstitions surrounding good or bad luck for a bride, the former Karen Parkhurst has two omens in her favor. "Happy the bride that the sun shines on" and it certainly did when she and Bob Groff repeated their vows at St. Mary's church at 11 a.m. last Saturday. In addition, she tore her imported Dahish lace veil as she entered the car on the way to the church. This is reputed to be another indication of a long and happily married life! Other details appear on the society page of the Plaindealer. Indicating the compatability in the Parkhurst-Delia household, new stepfather Frank gave Karen in marriage, while sister Pam served as maid of honor. The new couple was not delinquent in good manners, when they cut short their wedding trip to be at O'Hare airport to say farewell to Bob's mother-- Mrs. Rose Groff, and Mr. and Mrs. Stephan Bogan for their return flight to Trenton, New Jersey, on Sunday. *The gesture was not expected7~BUt~"was certainly appreciated by the entire family! Their destination is still "iffy"-- depending on orders from Uncle Sam. The new groom has applied for more schooling and is hoping his desire will be granted. They could be living on either the east or west coast. We surely offer them our very best wishes. Notes From The Village Board The president and all trustees were present with the exception of trustee Art Nelson when the board convened on Monday, Feb. 8. According to a survey made of surrounding communities, our roads have remained in top notch condition in spite of the severe weather. We have recived excellent service in snow plowing and sanding of the village streets. It is also a commendable fact that our finances have been in the black for about the last two years. Other routine business was transacted. The next meeting is being postponed because of George Washington's birthday and will be held either Feb. 25 or March 1. Please watch this space for the announcement. Condolences To Mrs. Ethel Green of 5200 W. Maple Hill Drive on the recent death of her sister, Mrs. Laura May Jackson, 79, who passed away in McHenry hospital. She had lived with her son, Raleigh O'Neil, McHenry for 3% years. Visitation was held at the Peter "M. *Justen and Son funeral home with Mass recited a week ago Tuesday in St. Patrick's church. Burial was in Irving Park cemetery; Chicago. In addition to those named, she is also survived by five grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren. School Shelter Will Go! Since it has been such a bone of contention, the Ladies of the Lake voted to rid themselves of the responsibility of school children's behavior and will dispose of the school shelter located at Gate 4 and W. Parkview. The structure will be offered for sale. The action was taken at the last meeting of the organization, Thursday, Feb. 11. „ The women are also considering two projects which will benefit members of the community but these will require further study. The women are contemplating holding a card party some time in the spring. A discussion was held concerning the many useful donations to the community made by the organization. These are some of the accomplishments. The first squad car -- street signs at all intersections, and gate signs at each entrance to the village--at least one third of the money towards beachhouse improvement .-- new drapes for the building -- additional sand in the swimming area, -- and, a large pier for the children. During the social hour, Magda Berglund, Elma Nelson, Carrie Kurthf Ella Benson, Sallie Olsen, Lois Parent!, and this reporter received re-inforcements in the "mad money" department. "Tasty pastry" was offered by Louise Berquist and Magda Berglund. The next meeting will be held the second Thursday, in March. Presented At The Font Jeffrey Joseph Gies slept peacefully through the service when he was presented for baptism at St. Mary's church last Sunday. The service was conducted by Father Rudden at 2 p.m. Sponsoring the infant, who was born Jan. 22, were Mr. and Mrs. Alan Freund of McHenry. The little fella's mother and father, Kaaren and Chuck Gies, hosted a buffet dinner in their home on Ponca Drive after the joyful occasion. Proud grandparents-- Art and Shirley Olsen and family, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Gies, and the godparents were present. Unable to attend were great-grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Henry Nielsen of Florida and Mr. and Mrs. Theodor Olsen who had a previous commit; ment in Timber Lake. Bewildered by the attention accorded his little brother was 1? month old Jphn. Defies Convention Rules Mrs. Geraldine Burg caused consternation among the nurses at a Chicago hospital when she was admitted recently. When told to disrobe and get into bed, she replied, "Not yet. It isn't bedtime". This is an indication of her marvelous sense of humor. Son Gerald accompanied her to the hospital. Breaks Ribs In Fall Garfield (Duffy) Benson is still recuperating from a tumble down his back stairyvay which netted him four broken ribs. It occurred during one of our recent storms. According to his lovin' Ella, he is making wonderful progress. Speaking of the Bensons, Ella is "crowing" over the birth of her first great-grandchild born last summer. The new addition was called Joseph Eckert III. His grandmother, Mrs. Robert (Lois Landers) Bowes, spent much of her childhood in the village and in the home occupied by the Bensons. With his marriage to Ella, Duffy also was granted an entire family. He had none of his own. He couldn't be happier about it. Significant Of Greatness? Alvin Maurice Cavender had the name Abraharii Lincoln inserted by his grandmother, Mrs. Charles Temple, following his birth in Shriner's hospital, Feb. 12. Hardly a scale buster, he weighed a mere 5 lbs., 10 oz. The little lad's mom and dad are Mr. and Mrs. Dwayne Cavender of Chicago. 'Nursing Bruised Proboscis Don Nelson tried to dig a black oak tree stump out of the ground in Ken Petersen's woods with his nose last week. The stump remained steadfast, and Don's bruises show! The incident occurred inadvertently when Don and two other youngsters from the village were sliding down -hills on the ice on one sled and lost control. Even if he somewhat resembles Jimmy Durante these days, Don is taking all kidding with good humor. " Undergoes Surgery Cheryl Thacker was a paragon of good nature when she underwent a tonsillectomy at McHenry hospital last week. According to her mom, Barbara, the kindergarten patient remained stoic throughout the surgery and during her convalescence. She was back in school on Monday. New Addition Making proud noises like she did for each of her children is Sally Hocin with the newest addition to their family. It is a nine week old Chihuahua and is borne under wraps when the wieather is cold. Sorry We Missed These Dates ' On Jan. 20, Win and Ed Doran were married 48 years and Alex Hocin turned 13 on Feb. 6.
