Wonder Lake News MART LOU HARTOG 653-7176 REPORTER TO SPEND VACATION IN CALIFORNIA Your reporter has written so mych about getting away from the ice and snow all winter that I have finally started believing my own propaganda and I am going to do just that. I'm going to hunt for that palm tree I have been talking about. I will appreciate it so much if you will send your news direct to the Plaindealer for the next three weeks and ask them to put it in the Wonder Lake column. Don't call me as I won't be there. However if you have it written out -- double spaced please--you can leave it at my house in the news box and the boss man at our house will see that it gets to the paper. Otherwise please call it in or drop it off at the paper. I will be gone by the time the paper is out this week. I dm leaving Thursday for two weeks in California. I will spend one week with my son and daughter-inlaw in Long Beach and a week with my brother and sister-inlaw in Palo Alto. Expect me back about April 1, and by that time that "cussed" snow better be gone. Birthday Party Miss Yvonne Banks celebrated her ninth birthday last Saturday afternoon with' a party at her home. Lake Shore Drive celebrated her birthday last Saturday, March 6, with a party at her home, attended by friends and relatives. From what I understand--a gay time was had by all. A Visitor to Denmark Roland Hoffman, son of the Harold Hoffmans, is on a three weeks training trip to Copenhagen, Denmark. Roland is a commercial jet pilot. His trip to Denmark is to study the Danish type DC-8 Jets. After his training trip he will either be a co-pilot, on the Danish flights or return to his country and continue as a commercial pilot. He is not sure yet which it will be. He is enjoying his stay and writes that the people are extremely friendly and that the girls are all beautiful. Must be nice country. Roland and his wife, Sharon, and his daughter live near O'Hare Field where his home office is located. Kiwaiiis Club Meeting Past Presidents Night held Saturday, Feb. 27, was a "sellout." Bob Howe, chairman of the event, is to be complimented. Speeches and acknowledgements were held to a minimum in order to give our speaker, Joe Ross, full attention. Joe, with the aid of a chart, gave the breakdown of Kiwanis International, from the districts, division of the districts, down to the individual clubs. There are now over 2,800 clubs with 265,000 members. Monday's meeting started with committee reports. Jim Gianoila, chairman of International Relations, gave a report on the functions of his committee. Next week Joe Sullivan will report on membership and attendance. Bill Cristy, who was to present next week's program on site of new McHenry high school, asked for a postponement until the issue of another proposed site is cleared up. In his place, Rev. Redding of the Woodstock Children's Home will present a program. Art Lau presented a program on "Support of Churches". Joyce Kinzer won the "Battle Ax Award". SURPLUS FOOD Federal surplus commodities amounting to 2,315,602 pounds of food with a retail value of $873",032 were distributed to 143,293 persons in 56 downstate counties during January. Dominick Fontana, presiding minister here, said that more than 100 persons are expected to form the twenty-one convention departments. The volunteer departments begin their planning for each assembly weeks in advance so that they can swing into action about three hours before the sessions begin and feed a complete evening meal, direct traffic, decorate a stage, install a public address system, Seat the •attending ministers and their guests and present a well coordinated program of Bible information, / Jehovah's witnesses have different sizes of assemblies and these are determined by the area to be covered. For instance, the spring and fall assemblies are usually geared to accommodate from eighteen to twenty congregations and last three dajjs, one weekend. The midsummer conventions take in several states as a rule and may have an attendance of from 15 to 50,000 unless they are international. In 1963, an around-the-world assembly was held in twentyseven different places around the globe, representing 161 lands. More than 16,000 were baptized. Movies of these interesting places were later shown at the spring and fall assemblies to those who were unable to attend the far-flung gatherings themselves. Lakemoor- Lilymoor SHIRLEY SCHUERR 885-2645 DOG SITUATION BECOMES CRITICAL IN SUBPIVISION I have so many complaints on the dogs running loose in packs. It is getting to the point where adults as well as the children can not walk out of their homes because of the dogs. The dogs are so bold that they go right after people. They are also knocking the garbage cans over and dragging the garbage all over. There has been cases of distemper reported from this area. Distemper can be passed from one dog to another very easy. What happens to a child or adult if they are bitten by one of the dogs so afflicted? The people are up in arms about the dog situation. They are ready to shoot them when they are on other people's property. It is so bad now the dogs are overunni/ig the subdivisions. Please take care of your ^ts and fence them in or tie them up when they are outside. Heart Fund In Lakemoor the heart fujid has been completed. Those who worked to make the drive a success were Annette Schmit, captain, her co-workers were Elaine Gray and Dorothy Wrublewski. Like the girls in Lilymoor they did a very good job.
