They will make their home in Gunnison, Colo. mmsM HAM DINNER OF LIONS BENEFITS COUNTY CRIPPLED The Woodstock Lions Club has announced that its annual ham dinner will be held March 28, at the Woodstock Moose hall. Net proceeds this year will again be donated to the Woodstock Easter Seal Therapy Center to reduce the mortgage on that society's building. As in the past there will be two servings, family style. The first serving is at 12:15 p.m. and the second at 1:30 p.m. Tickets can be obtained from any member for either serving and additional tables will be available this year so there will be plenty of seats for everyone. The Lions hope that they will again have a record crowd this year so that they may continue their civic and charitable work. All proceeds from this dinner benefit the local community directly. March 11 has been selected for Advance Night for Ruth Lightner. She will act as honored queen and preside over the meeting of the International Order, of Job's Daughters this Thursday night at 7 p.m. This Saturday, March 13, a pancake breakfast will be served from 8 a.m. to noon at Acacia hall, 1309 N. Court, McHenry. Tickets will entitle the purchaser to all he can eat. ON TV SHOW •Ann Varese of McHenry will appear on the television show, Price is Right, at 10:30 Thursday and Friday mornings. Mr. and Mrs. John Foy, Wonder Lake, are parents of a son March 6. Harvard Hospital Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Estes of Wonder Lake announce the birth of a daughter March 4. As doctors waned in Harvard hospital for the arrival of Mrs. Michael Novak in the early hours of last Monday morning, a son was born to her in her car, outside McHenry hospital. Nurses from the hospital assisted, after which mother and new son were taken to Harvard, with police escort. Sherman Hospital, Eljfiii Jenifer Louise is the name chosen by Mr. and Mrs. Louise Sawisch, Jr., for their first child born March 5. . The little miss weighed 7 lbs., 4 oz., and measured 20." Dinner will be served between 7 and 9 p.m. The committee, consisting of Frank Gregory, Tony Pintozzi and Ed Guettler, announces that there will be "real" meatballs served with the spaghetti. The wives of Kiwanis members will cook the-sauce. Tickets may be purchased at the door or from any Kiwanis member. PANEL DISCUSSION PLANNED FOR GOP WOMEN'S MEETING With the assistance of material supplied by Senator John Graham and Earl Walsh, Anne Orgler, vicerpresident, will lead a panel discussion at the McHenry Township Republican Women's club meeting on Tuesday, March 16, at 8:15 at the Community Methodist church, McHenry. The topic to be discussed will be city and township elections, with special emphasis on recent attempts to eliminate local governing bodies. The dangers of centralization or creation of Metropolitan government was the subject of Senator Graham's talk at the February meeting of the club. Mrs. Tom Davis, president, has urged all Republican women to attend. The club's annual report will be given; decisions must be made concerning several club projects; and the panel discussion will provide answers to many questions concerning local government and its function. The couple will be married Oct. 9. 1 Mrs. Dobyns Honored On Birthday Sunday A group of relatives and friends were entertained at a tea on Sunday afternoon in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Dobyns in honor of the birthday of his mother, Mrs. Wallace Dobyns. The honoree received many gifts including a beautiful white orchid which she proudly wore for the occasion. From a perfectly appointed table centered with a floral piece of spring flowers a delicious lunch of finger sandwiches and petits fours was served. Mrs. Jean Cameron presided at the tea service. An interesting program is be>- ing planned, to be presented by Paul in Esdale on the subject, "Magic Hour of Music". In it Mrs. Esdale, a whistler, combines music, art and literature, and shows technicolor slides of birds in Illinois, giving interpretations of bird calls through whistling. There will be a musical background for her calls. The program will be highlighted by Mrs. Harry Stinespring's review of the book, "The Fabulous Flemings" by Grace Nits Fletcher. Mrs. Vaughn Jones will be in charge of the worship service. The McHenry county contest will take place in the Harvard Community high school gym on April 23 at 8 o'clock. Only girls from this county may take part in this contest, but if they are out of the county attending school they are still eligible to compete. They must be between the ages of thirteen and seventeen. Any girl who will be eighteen before the first of July may not compete. All entrants must be American citizens. All must have the signature of their parents or legal guardian, giving them permission to try for the title of Miss American Teen-Ager, as well as Miss McHenry County Teen-Ager. ; . Application blanks. may be procured at any school, 4-H club, other youth organization, or from Dr. M. T. Bergsjo in Harvard. Girls will be judged on neatness, grooming and poise. They are to appear for judging in party dresses, and no change of clothing will be required. Judges will be Estelle Prager, theatrical representative from Chicago; Barbara Udell, show business columnist of the Beloit Daily News; Anna Marie Welti, contest director, representing 20th Century Attractions; plus three judges from McHenry county. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Nixon have returned from Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, where they resided the past two years, and are spending some time in the home of her sister, Mrs. Alex Wirfs. Mr. Nixon, who has been serving, with the Navy, is now retired from service. Mrs. Paul Karls has returned from a 2Vz weeks tour of Europe. Her first stop was Grossauheim near Frankfort, Germany, for a week's visit with her son, Private 1/C Paul Peter Karls, who was on furlough, and .together they visited many places of interest. From there she flew to Milan, Italy, and then, on to Rome where she spent three days taking conducted tours. Her next stop was Naples from where she took the train for Nice, France, for three days of sight-seeing and visited the famous Monte Carlo. Enroute home stops were made at Barcelona, Spain and Lisbon, Portugal. COUNTY EDUCATION GROUP SPONSORS DINNER DANCE The McHenry County Education Association will hold its annual dinner dance on March 27 at the Crystal Lake Legion home. Dinner, in the form of a complete smorgasbord, will be held at 6:30. An election of officers is open to the membership at 8 o'clock, following dinner. Dancing will follow, between the hours of 9 p.m. and 1 a.m. FINE ARTS PROGRAM On Thursday evening, March 11, at 8 o'clock Dr. Urban Fleege, director of the Alcuin Montessori School of Oak Park, will appear in the Woodstock Opera House to discuss the topic, "The Montessori Approach to Teaching the Young Child". The program, fourth in the "Creative Living" series sponsored by the Women's Guild of the Woodstock Fine Arts Association, had been scheduled for Feb. 25, but because of inclement weather, was postponed. This new date and time, will provide teachers and others working during the day an opportunity to hear this discussion of a highly controversial subject. Tickets will be sold at the door.
