It was built in 1880 by Mr. and Mrs. Michael Justen, who are pictured at the front gate. The two boys to the left are Henry Freund and John Freiind, sons of Michael and Susan Freund. The latter resides today in Burlington, Wis. Also in the picture, near the boys, is Mrs. Anna Freund Vogt. To the right is Anna Marie Bauer, sister of Mrs. Justen, and next to her, Mrs. John Regner. The house, containing ten large rooms and an enormous attic, was built at an approximate cost of $3,500. SECOND ANNUAL CHORAL SOCIETY PROGRAM APRIL 5 C. R. WALLACE The Northern Illinois Choral Association will present its second annual spring concert Monday, April 5, at 8 p.m. in the Crystal Lake Community high school auditorium. In keeping with the lenten season, the program will feature as its major choral work the beautiful "Requiem" for soprano and baritone solo, chorus and accompaniment, by Gabriel Faure (1845-1924), French composer who was the teacher of Ravel and who served many years as choirmaster and organist at the Church of the Madeleine in Paris. In addition, the concert by the choral association will include "How Lovely Is Thy Dwelling Place" (from the Brahms "Requiem") and "Behold the Lamb of God", by Handel. The soloists in the Faure work will be Mrs. Jack Peterson, soprano, and C. R. (Wally) Wallace, baritone, both of Crystal Lake. Mr. Wallace is a native of Boise, Idaho, and sang in the chancel choir of the Cathedral of the Rockies. He also sang with the Boise Symphonic Choral Society in their productions of, "The Invisible Fire", Brahms' "Requiem", "Elijah", and Hansel's "Messiah". He is a charter member of the Boise chapter of the SPEBSQSA, and resigned the office of chapter president when he was transferred by his employer. Since moving to Crystal Lake, he has been an active member, of the chancel choir at the First, Methodist Church and appeared in the Christmas Opera "Amahl and the Night Visitors". CANCER CRUSADE GETS UNDER WAY WITH HIGH GOAL Urge people to make their gift to the American Cancer Society only after carefully thinking about it, Arnold May, chairman of the McHenry county Cancer- Crusade, advised volunteer workers at the kick-off dinner last week. r Today the two-pronged drive in McHenry county starts. Its goal is two-fold: 1. Make every citizen mindful of the fact that he can do much to whip this disease by looking for danger signals -- and acting promptly on any of them. Workers will distribute informational material that is both factual and encouraging--it tells the seven danger signals but also reminds readers that cancer is curable in many cases- if treated promptly. 2. Ask citizens to give a gift to the Cancer Crusade that reflects their thinking on the invitation and indicates their realization of. the "vital need. "Research projects that should be undertaken were delayed in 1964 due to lack of money, "May told the 100 volunteers, community chairman in the seventeen townships in McHenry county. Altogether more than 500 workers will knock on doors this month. Roger Reichert, chairman of the ACS unit in McHenry county, was obviously pleased with the large turnout of workers and with May's enthusiastic approach outlining 1965 Crusade plans. Reichert predicted a "bankup crusade." Reichert has spearheaded the Crusade the past three years and more than doubled the amount raised through the drive in the three-year period. Last year more than $15,000 was collected. This year May has set a drive goal of $17,500. TRAFFIC FATALITIES DOWN Traffic fatalities in Illinois during the first 15 days in March numbered 72, according to provisional reports compiled by the Division of Highways and the State Highway Police. The total for the first half of March was three less than during the same period last year. For the first two and one-half months of 1965 the fatality total stands at 378, representing a decrease of 7 per cent from the 406 deaths recorded for the same period last year. Forty-three persons died in traffic accidents involving collisions between two or more vehicles, during the first half of March.
