Doherty is completing his first term in office as mayor of McHenry and will be unopposed in his bid for re-election. ' A resident of 1410 N. Green Street, he has lived his entire lifetime in this community. Mr. Doherty is a graduate of McHenry high school and Northern Illinois ^university. He is a pharmacist and is owner of the Bolger Drug Store on Green street. His affiliations include membership in the Knights of Columbus, Catholic Order of Foresters, Elks Club, McHenry Chamber of Commerce and the Illinois Pharmaceutical Association. Mr. Doherty is married to the former Rosalie A.^Williams and they have eight children. FOR CITY CLERK Earl R. Walsh, a veteran of twenty-eight years as city clerk, will run for re-election to this post again next week. In the entire time, he has never missed a Council meeting. Mr. Walsh, who resides at 1506 N. Green Street, is a graduate of McHenry high school. He is a member of the Chamber of Commerce and the McHenry Rotary Club. His wife is the former Alvina Freund of McHenry. They have two children, a son, Jack, and a daughter, Patricia. FOR TREASURER Thomas F. Bolger, a lifelong McHenry resident, seeks re-election to a post he has held for the past fourteen years. Mr. Bolger is a graduate of Prairie (rural) school and McHenry high school and for several years has served as cashier of the McHenry State Bank. Ho is a member of McHenry Rotary, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Catholic Order of Foresters, Knights, of Columbus 3rd decree, 4th degree K. of C., Moose lodge, McHenry Country Club, St. Mary's Holy Name Society, Marian Central Fathers Club and St. Mary's P.T.A. Mr. Bolger resides on 3513 W. Broad Street with • his wife, Kathryn, and six children, Thomas, Cynthia, Mary Ellen, David, Ann and Susan. WARD 1 ALDERMAN Joseph A. Etten came to McHonry a number of years ago from Chicago, where ho attended grade and high school. He resides at .3914 W. Maple Avenue. Mr. Etten is president of Chicago Machinery Movers anrl Erectors, Inc., and also of the Machinery Movers Association of Chicago. He is a member of the American Legion, Catholic Order of Foresters and St. Rita Council, Knights of Columbus. Mr. Etten and his wife, Mary, have two daughters, Maureen Pintozzi and Marcella Dixon, and one son, Joseph. There is no opposition to his Election for another term as alderman in Ward I. WARD 2 ALDERMAN Theodore N. (Ted) Pitzen, has served as alderman in Ward 2 for eight years and seeks another terin in office. Mr. Pit/on, a resident of 3904 W. Grove Avenue, attended the local schools and now conducts his own business, as a plastering contractor. He served on the Plan Commission for five years, has been active with the Little league since its beginning and was president for two years. Memberships include the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Holy Name society of St. Mary's church, the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Moose lodge. Mr. Pitzen and his wife, the former Lorraine Stilling, have six children, Kathy, IS. Mike, 17, Patty, 13, John, 12, Teddy, 10, and Annette, 7. FOR WARD 3 ALDERMEN Earl J. Roes is making his first bid for the post of alderman in Ward 3. McHenry. lie resides on 1310 N. Park Street. He is a graduate of McHenry high school and is employed as an electrician for Carey Electric Contractors. Mr. Smith is a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and of the American Legion. He is married to the former Betty Lou Kramer. They have one son, Randy, and a daughter, Rae Ellen. FOR WARD 4 ALDERMEN Arthur V. JaeJtson is one of three contenders for one of the new aldermanic posts created through the creation of another ward in the city. Mr. Jackson, who resides at 4213 W. Crest wood Drive, graduated from McHenry high school in 1944 and served in the U. S. Navy for two years in the Pacific. He is employed as a carpenter for Jos. Frett & Son. At present. Mr. Jackson serves as his precinct Republican committeeman. Ho is a member of the American Legion, Johnsburg Community Club, Catholic Order of Forestors and St. Mary's church. Married to the former Glorice Freund, they have one son,- Dennis. Thomas Land re of 4205 W. Crest wood Drive seeks one of the posts of alderman in Ward 4. A high school graduate, he is employed as a journeyman plumber. Mr. Landre is president of the rifle squad of the American'Legion and holds memberships in the Knights of Columbus and Moose lodge and the McHenry Civil Defense Auxiliary Police. He is a past member of the board of directors of the Junior Chamber of Commerce. Hfc and his wife, Joy, have two children, Debra, 9, and Rick, 8. Gerald J. Wegener of 4220 Sioux Lane is the third contender for the office of alderman in the new ward. He attended St. Mary's grade school and for four years was a student at Salvatorian Seminary, Nazianz, Wis. He is an electrician for Carey Electric Contracting. Mr. Wegener is a member of St. Patrick's church. He also belongs to Local 117, S.B.E.W., and of the American Legion, McHenry, He and his wife, Janis, have four children, three boys and one girl. IfHA CHAPTER OF MCHS OBSERVES SPECIAL WEEK McHenry Future Homemakers of America were even busier than usual from April 4 to 10, when the half million members of this national youth organization observed National FHA Week. The FHA chapter at McHenry high school scheduled a nurtiber of activities for the week, according to Christine Tiffany, president. The plans included Family Worship Day, Publicity Day, Monthly Meeting, Color Day and banquet. Future Ii'omemakers of America are home economics students in junior and senior high schools. The organization, founded 20 years ago, states as its Creed: "We face the future with warm courage and high hope. For we are the builders of hbmes . . . for America's future. Homes where living will be the expression of everything that is good and fair. Homes where truth and love and security and faith will be realities, not dreams." ' • & . A national program of work guides the activities of individual FHA members and chapters. Projects on this year's program are (1) You and Your Values; (2) Focus on Family Friendship; (3) Marriage Calls for Preparation; (4) Stay in School; (5) Action for Citizenship. All projects,' Miss Tiffany stated, further FHA's over-all goal, which is to help individuals improve personal, family, and community living. Future Homemakers of America is sponsored by the U. S. Office of Education and the American Home Economics Association but receives its financial support from the dues of members. ATTEND CHURCH SUNDAY BANKERS AWARD FELLOWSHIP TO McHENRY MAN The American Bankers association has announced the award of six graduate fellowships to candidates for doctoral degrees in banking and finance. The awards, provided by the A.B.A.'s Foundation for Education in Economies, consist of full tuition and fees, plus a grant .of $2,400. One of the recipients is Paul F. Jessup of McHenry, a student at Northwestern university. Mr. Jessup earned his B.S. degree in finance in 1960 at Northwestern University and his A.M. irl international affairs at Harvard University in 1961. He also received his B.A. in philosophy, politics and economics at the University of Oxford, England, in 1963. His thesis will be ill the area of banking. RETARDED GROUP TO HOLD GENERAL MEETING APRIL 20 The McHenry County Association for Retarded Children will hold a general meeting at 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, in Wonder Lake. After the past winter, with cancelled meetings and poor attendance, it is hoped that a large group will come to hear of workshop progress and the training school gains during the year. Anyone interested in the retarded person is welcomed at the monthly meetings. The association is sponsoring a rummage sale in the recreation building at the main beach, Crystal Lake on Friday, April 23, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Help for this project in the way of donations or aid in sorting and selling is needed.
