THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Thursday, April 15« 1965 •joi ER MARY LOU HARTOG WONDER LAKE NEWS <68-7176 FORMER {RESIDENTS LOSE HOME IN TORNADO SUNDAY Bill and Barbara Fiala and their children have moved in with Bill's mother, Betty Fiala of Lake Shore Drive, temporarily. Bill and Barbara were vicr tims of the tornado which hit Colby Subdivision in Crystal Lake last Sunday. The Paul Murdock family, also former Wonder Lakers, were neighbors of the Fialas in Colby Subdivision and they also suffered severe damage to their home. Notes: The main topic of discussion everywhere one turned last weekend was, of course, the devastation left by the tornado which struck the area last Sunday afternoon. So many of us had friends or relatives in the area and experienced the helpless feeling of wanting to do something to help but not knowing what to do. This P^lm Sunday will truly be placed in the same category with the Good Friday earthquakes of last year in Alaska. School Board Members Elected Congratulations to the winners in, last week's Harrison School Board election. Dr. Santo Ruggero, incumbent, William N. Cristy incumbent and vJgy W. Cristy were the winners. News From Wonderview The Women's Auxiliary meets at the home of Viola Borta on Thursday, April 15, at 7:30 p.m. Audrey Burrows will be hostess. All Wonderview ladies are invited to attend. The Baking Club met at the Borta home Monday, April 5. They have decided to name their group The Little Bakers. They made chocolate chip cookies at their last meeting. A sewing club has been started also. They met on Thursday, April 8. Different ladies have donated supplies to help the young seamstresses. Audrey Burrows, Sylvia Spielman and Gussie Haerle donated needles. Janet Sczczesny donated an iron and thread. Roberta Hermes donated patterns, material, etc. The boys' hobby club met at the Bortas' garage Wednesday, April 9. They discussed what projects they were interested in and met again on Wednesday, April 14. Young men ranging in ages from 7 through high school age are urged to join this hobby club. Meetings will be from 6:30 through 8 p.m. each week. Lose Son Sympathy to the Bert Patterson family who lost their newborn son on April 9. Plan Trip An exciting evening of plans and discussion took place last week at the McMillan home on the blacktop. All the mothers of the Cadettes were invited to take part in the plans for the fund raising projects to finance the proposed trip to the Mammoth Caves in Kentucky. Mrs. Coburn and Mrs. McMillan, coleaders of the Troop, gave all the information necessary to the mothers in attendance. Jeanne McMillan gave a full report of their present financial status. Mary Oonk gave details concerning a suggested pancake supper to be held sometime in May. Chris Hensel gave a delightful boost to the roller skating party on April 14, at the McHenry Roller Rink. Delicious refreshments were served by the committee prepared by the Cadetts. Sue Smith Diane Christopher, Lynn Wines Sue Coburn. Jeanne McMillan Mary Oonk, Chris Hensel, Kathy Walker, Fran Wasieleswski Penny Reynolds, Patti Smith and Penny Ducey completed preps on the challenge of dependability. We hope all the community will get behind these girls who are trying so hard to earn their money for this trip. Deepest Sympathy To the. family of Raymond Mendyk of 7406 Hiawatha Drive and to the family of Carl R. Reymann of 9011 Island Drive. Both men passed away this past weekend. Raymond Mendyk died last Friday in McHenry hospital. He had been a resident of Wbnder Lake for the past 17 years. He was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus of McHenry Council 1288. Burial was from Christ the King church on Monday at 10 a.m. with interment in the church cemetery. He is survived by his widow, Estelle; a daughter, Janice and a brother, Melvin. , Carl R. Reyman died Sunday morning in Woodstock hospital. Mr. Reymann a retired baker, was born in Berlin, Germany, in 1897. He is survived by his widow, Anna, two sons, Heinz ai)d Rudolph, five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Hilda MerVine of Chicago. Visitation was at Sclineider- Leucht funeral home in Woodstock on Tuesday and services were conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday by Rev. Carl A. Lobitz, pastor of Zion Lutheran church of McHenry. Burial was in McHenry County Memorial Park cemetery, Woodstock. KiWanis Club Meeting April 5, 1965 The speaker was Fred Zandier, a past president of the club, who now resides in Carpentersville. Fred teaches in the Kane County school system. Last year Fred was chosen to teach a separate group of stuctent!%v*rt>"h^d anti-social problems, called ( Project No. 167. . The results were very successful. Out of twenty-two students, twelve were able to return to their regular classes. In the entire state there are only five rooms of this special teaching, two of which are in Kane County. Fred gave a summary of his experiences and is quite confident that the return to the taxpayers is a good investment. Ed Richardson, past president of the Dundee Club, accompanied Fred. George Hartman was a guest of Warren Lindgren. Gordy Gran wqn the Battle Ax Award. Believe this is a "first" for Gordy. Next week Bob Howe will have an exchange student as a guest. Bill Cristy will present a program on the McHenry Community high school expansion. The next award dinner will be held April 26 at the Ringwood Methodist church. This will be a Ladies: Night. Mr. Denney resides in Cary. * RINGWOOD NEWS DELORES BRENNAN VINCENT TONYAN ELECTED MEMBER OF SCHOOL BOARD 658-9045 Vincent Tonyan was elected to serve a three year term as a member of the Ringwood School Board of Directors at the election held on Saturday. Vincent received a total of 54 votes while Bob Betts received 29, while there was a total of 18 spoiled ballots where most persons wrote the name of the candidate in and did not mark the X in the square. Another 9 were miscellaneous, with other write-ins for board member. Something should be done to stress to all voters to be sure to put the X in the square even though you write the name in. , Tax Referendum Passed The Tax Referendum was passed with a total of 63 Yes, 50 No, and 5 spoiled. (1 of "which was blank). A total of 118 persons voted at Saturday's election day. Card Club The Card Club met on Wednesday afternoon at the hom^of Mrs. L. E. Hawley. Mother of Local Resident Passes Away Mrs. Norbert (Helen) Lisk, Sr., of Richmond, the mother of Mrs. Earl (Germaine) Kunz, passed away on Wednesday at McHenry hospital. The Pages just recently returned from a Florida vacation. Aren't we lucky not to have been in the tornado? To think that such a disaster could be so close to us is bad enough. I'm sure there will be many reminders of such a terrible thing around the Crystal Lake area for quite a while. Clean-up is a long job for the many residents of the Lake area.
