Thursday. April 15.1965 THE McHENRY PLMNDEALER JOHNSBURG NEWS BETTY HETTERMANN 885-1290 ST. AGATHA COURT ANNUAL BANQUET TUESDAY. APRIL 20 If you are a member of St. Agatha court 777 and wish to attend their annual banquet which will be held on April 20, better call Virginia Pitzen by next Sunday at the^ latest. This will get underway at Hettermann's at 6:30. Immediately after dinner the, ladies will proceed to the community club hall where installation of officers and the regular meeting will take place. Committee for this evening is headed by Catherine Dehn. Slje will be assisted by Jane Mann, Agnes Nell, Evelyn LaFohtaine, Darlene Huemann, Marilyn Fuchs. Florence Hopp and" Julia Stilling. Rehearsal for the officers will be at 6 p.m. ,on Monday, April 19. with junior, or cleaned that room tomorrow instead of on the church cleaning day. Truie, there are many that just can not be present for these cleaning days and bless them, for I think they are the ones who supplied much of the food we ate at the completion of morning cleaning. All that can be said is, "Let your conscience be your guide," and I hope next year so many turn out that we will be getting in one anothers way. Hats off to the ladies who went back after lunch to wax the entire interior. "Soap Box" Topic As a rule I like to stay clear of controversial topics such as I'm about to write but I think it should be brought out at least once and then put away. For the past couple of weeks I've been writing that all the ladies of St. John's parish, especially the mothers of the confirmands and First Communicants were asked to participate in cleaning our church in preparation of the two big days. The cleaning day was designated at last Tuesday, April 6. after the 8 o'clock Mass. I'm sorry to say there were less than forty of us there for this once a year job. Included in this count were about eight or ten women whose families are grown and they no longer have children in our school. Mind you there were over two hundred children involved in these two Sacraments. You would think at least fifty mothers who had children either making their Confirmation or about to receive their First Communion could have made arrangements to be there on that day. Let's be honest ladies, if there was a card party, coffee klatch, or any other thing we really wanted to do, we would have found someone to stay New York Sightseers Ben and Hilda Thelen, and daughter, Kathy, returned last week from a week's air trip to New York. While there they took in many of the 'popular points of interest. They spent sometime with Kathy's fiance who is stationed there temporarily. The weather was just perfect for all the "trapsing" around they did. _ - broken arm and a cracked hip bone. She has beep quite uncomfortable since the accident and we are hoping that her days ahead will be much better. It's too bad this had to hi&ppen to mar their trip but at least they are here to talk about it. We all join in wishing Sue lots of "get well fast" wishes. Busy People Mr. and Mrs. Joe Smith spent a recent Sunday at a big family gathering in RoGkford. The celebration honored the Confirmation of Mrs. Smith's grandson, Mark Zimmermann. Mrs. Smith was in Milwaukee to spend the day with her elderly aunt a short time ago. The Smiths were hosts to her three sisters on a recent Sunday. P.T.A. Meeting Coming Up At the forthcoming meeting on April 20 of the Johnsburg Public School P.T.A., installation of officers will be on the agenda. Also there will be physical education demonstrations. AH members are urged ;to be present at this time. ^ Girl Scout News At their meeting of March 29, troop 88 went - straight to their patrols to collect dues. At 5:15, the girls were taken by car to the McHenry library. At the library they saw the new addition, the card catalogue, and how the books were kept in certain groups. They received applications for library cards. At the meeting which took place on April 4, this troop had a Brownie troop in to see how their meetings were conducted. While they were present, an open court of honor was held. The scouts went to their patrols to collect dues and discuss various things. This week they had a Court of Awards also. Ronda Schultz and Marie Tomasella were cookie hostesses for this particular meeting. Bad Ending To A Delightful Vacation When Sue, Joe and Nadine Frett were returning home after spending several wonderful weeks enjoying the Florida sunshine, they were involved in an auto accident. Thank God they were not more seriously hurt. Joe and Nadine received minor bruises but Sue suffered a HOLIDAY HILLS NEWS INEZ YOUNG 885-4672 ALERT DRIVERS WATCH CHILDREN PLAYING IN ROAD Last week's balmy weather put an end to the last of the snow (whisper that!) and once again our lake is open. With blue skies up above, it turns a beautiful sapphire blue. The geese have headed north the birds are back, the crocus and tulips are pushing their way up --say, how about that?? It's SPRING!!! After months of being confined to the house because of bad weather, the children have spring fever too. It's been a long winter and maybe they have forgotten roads are for cars too. Mostly those roads are just right for trying out a new bicycle or tricycle that they have had since Christmas. Many of us are in such a hurry at times, (and I'm guilty too) that we forget that children might be playing on the road. Be extra careful, slow down and watch for children. Mothers, be sure to remind children that the cars use those roads too, and that they must move when they see a car coming. Sympathy Just two weeks ago Herb Landis was called to Des Moines, Iowa, because his dad had a heart attack. He stayed for some time and then returned home. On Monday, April 5, they received word that Mr. Landis passed away. Our deepest sympathy to Herb, Lois and the children, Tom Joey, Susie and Kenny. support, since all the candidates are interested in good government locally. Most of all I am happy that it was possible for me to be a candidate.. I'm so proud to live in Holiday Hills where people show a real interest.in civic affairs. I truly wish everyone could have the experience I was privileged to have. Something To Look Forward To The Blessed Virgin Sodality will be sponsoring a card party and luncheon on May 5 in the community club hall. I doubt if there is a lady within reading distance of this column who doesn't enjoy "getting vaway from it all" for an afternoon. So why not plan on this date to be present and join in on the fun. Please keep this date in mind. Any of the officers will be glad to supply your ticl^t needs. Beautiful Church Service In St. John's All who were present last Saturday afternoon to witness over 150 children receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in St. John's church were, I'm sure, as impressed as I was. The church was filled to capacity, and anyone knowing the size of the church will say this is quite something. We were all much awed with the appearance of the most Reverend Loras T. Lane and his honor guard. The church itself was so clean, it glowed. Even the children in the Confirmation class took on a most saintly air. Our pastor, his assistant, and our good Sisters are to be congratulated once again on a job ("well done". We parents were most proud of our children as they were very anxious to answer Bishop Lane's questions. This went to prove just how well versed they were in the Confirmation studies. Last, but certainly not least, a word about our choir. They actually had the church vibrating at times. Sister Celestia and the choir members practiced many times together and their demonstration last.Saturday, certainly proved. We all hope we will hear much more of them in the future. In Again, Out Again That's exactly what Chuck Hiller did last weekend. He came in Saturday night to visit with his wife, Pa'm, and daughter, Stephanie, and took off again Sunday to rejoin the San Francisco Giants as they embark on what we hope is a most successful season. If everything goes as planned, Pam and Stephanie may fly to spend Easter with Chuck. Happy hitting, Chuck. Hospital Patients Mrs. Mike Schaerer is recuperating at home after spending sometime in Sherman hospital. Eva underwent surgery there recently and is coming along nicely. We hope she continues on the "straight and narrow path" to recovery. Willie and Estelle Klapperich are most happy to have their infant daughter, Beth, home once again. You will remember this little girl had heart surgery in Chicago a few weeks back. She is doing extremely well. Another of our residents who has spent sometime in the hospital recently is Mrs. Frank Freund. Agnes was a medical patient in the McHenry hospital. We certainly hope this will be the end of her trouble. Our sincere get-well wishes to all who are ill or confined to hospitals. Front St. Phone 385-0403 McHenry, 111. rescue squad were summoned to;JPistakee Hills where a resident suffered from respiratory trouble. He was treated on the scene. A farm on the Wilmot Road was the next call for the squad. This was on the 9th, when a nine year old boy fell from the hay mow. He suffered possible broken ribs, skull and spine injuries. The squad ambulance was used to take him to the McHenry hospital. Our own Johnsburg rescue squad members were called upon last Sunday to'aid those in need in Crystal Lake when devastation and destruction came as a result of the tornado that hit there in the afternoon. Several of the squad members and the new ambulance were on the scene in case they were needed, while the remaining members stayed at the building with the other ambulance in case there was an emergency in this area. Doesn't it make you feel secure to know there are fellows like this available in your time of need? Safety hints from the squad this week concerns several pointers which are most worthy to keep in mind at all times. In the event you are involved in an auto accident which also involves a utility pole, please use extreme caution before getting out of the vehicle. If there is any doubt that there is a wire on your car, stay in. As long as you remain in the car you are grounded. Wait for someone to assist you. Also a word of caution to passersby of an accident. Make sWe there are no wires on the car before you try to aid the occupant/ This can endanger your life as well as the one in th car. Another thing to keep in mind when you assist a person who has fallen. If there is any question as to the extent of their injuries, DO NOT MOVE -THE INJURED PERSON. Cover with a blanket to avoid shock and then call for assistance. Do not panic just use common sense. When placing a call for help, be sure/to give as many details as possible. One more thin<^ to keep in mind in case of a severe storm." If you are leaving your home or going into the basement .for protection, be certain all your appliances have been disconnected. . Confirmation Entertaining The Wakitsch family had a celebration honoring Tom's Confirmation last Saturday. Rick was home from school for the day to act as his brother's sponsor. On Sunday the Arnie Michels home was the scene of celebration of Marilyn's "big day". Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Michels, Elaine Michels, Kenneth Townsend and Cathy Smith were dinner and supper guests there. Lucille acted as Marilyn's sponsor for Confirmation. The Bob Hettermann family were dinner guests in our home following the church service last Saturday. Barbara was sponsor for our daughter, Karen. John and Joe Dehn were among those receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation in St. John's church. The boys had Paul Pitmen and Art Kattner as their sponsors. The Art Kattner family were guests later in the day in the Dehn home. The Pitzen family was unable to be present as they had to attend Confirmation, services* in1 McHenry. These are all the ones I have heard about as to celebrations for Confirmation. If you had a party and would like me to write it up for next: week, please give me a buzz before noon next Monday. Fun Fair Success As you must know by now, the recent Johnsburg P.T.A. Fun Fair was a "whooping success". Ginny Covalt, who' was chairman of the bakery booth, was thoroughly satisfied with the response shown during this time by the residents here and in the neighboring subdivisions. As I bring this column to a close this week, I would like to extend most happy and blessed Easter wishes to all. Remember the true meaning of this time and try to attend the church of your choice as often as you can during these remaining days of the Lenten season. One last note--please call your Easter news in before the noon deadline next Monday. Happy egg-hunting. After sending Sonny to college, parents understand mean- „• ing of Higher Education.
