We had a very successful rummage sale to help us earn money for our trip this summer There were over 100 girls at the song 'fest. It was such a success that the girls are talking about trying it again in the near future. In order to do some of the requirements on the Challenge of Social Dependability, a committee of girls made complete arrangements and plans for the party and invited Cadette Troop 295 to join at a very successful teen party. The two troops were happy to get together again to renew old friendships and make new friends as they played games, danced and did the limbo. Wednesday, April 21, was the big night when the girls attended the father-daughter banquet. The entertainment was very good and troop 41 did their best as they sang a song made up by troop members, a song with a tradition behind it and especially good round song. All the fathers were proud and the girls were all very excited. Now the troop will be spending time finishing up loose ends on badges and challenges and preparing for their trip. IL. S. ARMY, EUROPE--Army Pvt. Robert A. Erickson, son of Lawrence R. Blunt, Island Lake, was assigned to the 4th Armored Division in Germany March 31. Erickson is assigned as an engineer powerman in Headquarters Company, 3d Battalion of the division's 35th Armor near Bamberg, Germany. The 20-year-old soldier entered the Army in July, 1964, and completed basic training at Fort Rrtox, Ky. He attended McHenry high school and was employed by Spotnails Inc., Rolling Meadows, before entering the Army. Nicola FX Pintozzi, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Pintozzi Sr., 4913 Home ave., McHenry, was promoted to specialist Four April 5, while assigned to the 12th Artillery Group at the Oklahoma City Air Force Station. Pintozzi is an information specialist in the group's Headquarters Battery. He entered the Army in October, 1963, and was last stationed at Fort Slocum, N. Y. Pintozzi is a 1961 graduate of McHenry Community high school and attended the University of Oklahoma. Missile Technician Second Class John E. Jamieson, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stuart J. Jamieson of 5015 N. Westwood Drive, McHenry is serving aboard the nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine USS Sam Houston .operating out of Holy Loch, Scotland, and submerged for about the next 60 days. Ballistic missile submarines maintain two separate crews. One takes the submarine on patrol, while the other remains ashore for additional training, and time at home with their families. Ballistic missile submarines are on constant patrols beneath the seas providing mobile launching pads for missiles capable of traveling more than 1,- 500 miles. Army Pvt. Robert G. Bishop, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert C. Bishop, 8917 Woody Trail, Wonder Lake, completed an eight-week combat engineer course at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., April 22. During the course, Bishop received instruction in the construction and repair of roads, railroads and structures. He also received training in demolitions and mine warfare. He has been a member of Company One of the McHenry Township Fire Proection District since 1950. He has faithfully served the department as its secretary for the past thirteen of those years. "Hib" has been coming to this area since his early childhood and became a permanent resident in 1948. He received all of his eductaion in Chicago. He and his wife, Ann, have two children and they reside at 1209 N. Park street. Mr. and Mrs. Rodenkirch own and operate their own business in McHenry. He is a member of the American Legion and the Moose. If anyone over the age of 21 is interested in becoming a member of the fire department they are urged to contact Hib or any other fireman for more information. Mr. Rodenkirch resigned from Company I, last week as the result of his appointment as trustee of the fire district. WELFARE RECIPIENTS EDUCATED The state of Illinois offers the most extensive statewide education programs in the nation for adult public aid recipients, according to a report prepared for the Department of Public Aid. The Illinois programs are cited as a pioneering effort, with more students enrolled than are in similar classes in all the other states combined. In January, 1965, more than 12,000 public aid recipients were enrolled in some 200 programs in fifty-four of the state's most populous counties in an organized effort- to upgrade their education and job skills so they can become self-supporting through permanent employment. Letizia, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Letizia of 7411 Birch Drive, Wonder Lake, is serving at the U.S. Naval Air Station, Quonset Point, R. I. The air station serves as the base of operations for major elements of the U.S. Atlantic Fleet's anti-submarine forces. These include aircraft carriers and anti-submarine squadrons. Quonset Point is also headquarters for U.S. Navy air units operating in the Atlantic. Airman Apprentice Richard C. Brown, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Brown of 3607 W. Anne St., McHenry, was graduated April 7 from Aviation Structural Mechanic Hydraulic School eat the Naval Air Technical Training Center, Memphis, Tenn. He studied basic hydraulic system operation, troubleshooting and maintenance. Trey Road, McHenry, completed four weeks of individual combat training recently with the First Infantry Training Regiment, Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, N. C. The 20-day course included over 200 hours of rigorous instruction in small unit tactics, night combat, firing weapons OPEN HOUSE AT ELGIN'S STATE HOSPITAL MAY 2 Elgin State Hospital will hold its seventeenth annual open house this coming Sunday, May 2, from 1 to 4 p.m. in observance of National Mental Health Week, May 1 to 7. Among the events of the "Neighbors' Day" open house will be tours of the hospital's campus and facilities. Staff and patients will take visitors through the eight recently organized units. Under the leadership of Dr. Ernest S. Klein, superintendent, Elgin State Hospital has decentralized the large institution into eight smaller units. A patient coming into the hospital will be admitted, examined, and treated by one staff in one unit, from the day of his admission to the day of his discharge. Intensive treatment wards, activity centers, surgical and medical buildings, recreation facilities, admission wards, ^nd administrative departments will be seen by visitors. Tours will leave the hospital's assembly hall every 20 minutes starting at 1 p.m. In the hall will be twelve exhibits prepared by community services and hospital departments. They will show the importance of the community in mental health programs, tell of mental health careers .and still others will tell of jobs and services for community volunteers. Refreshments and information pamphlets will be given to visitors.
