Betty Lamont's mother in Scotland heard the news of the tornados within hours after it happened and since she had been a visitor here a few years back she knew how close Wonder Lake was to the stricken area and she- immediately tried to get a call thru to find out if everyone was alright. The lines were tied up and she couldn't get thru right away but she got in touch by other means and inquired a bout each and every member of the family. Betty cabled her that Wonder Lake had fortunately missed the storm and that all was well here. Mothers just have a way of. finding out about their chicks no matter how far away they are and beipg mothers they worry. This is part of being a mother. They have builtin "worriers" where their kids are concerned. A Friend Indeed Your reporter was delighted to learn that she has a friend on the East Coast who doesn't want her to be fired from her reporting job. A few weeks ago I made the remark in my column that if I didn't get some news pretty soon I would be fired. To my utter amazement and delight I received a letter •-- air mail -- from Newport Rhode Island. The writer didn't sign his name but signed only "A Grandson of Mrs. Justen". After seeing my "tragedy stricken Wonder Lake News" he decided to help me. In the letter he told of winning a boat race during the America's Cup trials held last summer at Newport. This year he expects to win all the N.Y.C. Bluejay races. / In addition to the letter he also sent me brochures on Newport, and his selections as to who should win the McHenry elections. Thanks so much "grandson". It's letters like yours 'that make my job such a pleasant one. I'm sure I won't be fired now for at least a few months anyway. Travelers Return From Florida Vacation Dorothy and Ed Cook have recently returned from a wonderful 3 weeks vacation on the East coast of Florida near Stuart. They went sightseeing in St. Petersburg and visited Dorothy's sister in Silver Springs. They also met some former Wonder Lake summer residents --Liz and John Perry--who formerly lived on Seminole at Wonder Lake Drive. They are now living in Salhaven Retirement Village in Jupiter, Fla., and are very happy there. They send greetings to ajll their friends here at the lake and if you would like to get in touch with them I imagine just Salhaven Retirement Village, Jupiter, Fla., would be sufficient address. Robert Bruce Dies Suddenly The many friends of Bob Bruce of 7608 South Drive were saddened to learn of his passing away very unexpectedly last Saturday night. He was on his way home from Barrington where he was employed and stopped off at a restaurant near McHenry. Very shortly after his arrival he collapsed and was taken to Woodstock hospital where he died a short time later. His immediate survivors are his widow, Irma, a son, Bob, Jr., who is a student at DeKalb and a daughter, Bonnie. Funeral arrangements at this time are incomplete.
