May 13, 1965) BE WISE USE THE CLASSIFIED *0^0/1 QA/op m by Maggfc Lovgwell, There's an easier way to KEEP NYLONS PAIRED than having to find mates after you have washed them. When you take your hose off, just tie them together (knot must be large and loose and not allowed to tighten). When you have several pairs to wash, leave them tied together. To dry, untie knot and hang each pair on line with one clothespin. You won't damage your hose--and when they're dry, you just fold and put away. The most inexpensive way J know to decorate a room or hall is thru the USE OF PICTURES. Pictures can come from anywhere . . . maps, magazine covers, seed packets, etc. But perhaps the most satisfying are low-cost reproductions of Old Masters (now available in most department stores). Use pictures to enhance any room. Here are some ideas: It's best to group pictures, mixing large and small ones. Generally pictures should be hung at eye level. When hanging a group, start by placing your pictures at the bottom of area with their bottom edges in a line with each other. Never hang one picture cm a large wall--it will look lost. Instead, hang that one picture on a small wall, such as in a hall, Make a room look taller by hanging pictures straight up; or make room look longer by hanging them straight in a row (like across top of a couch). For young mothers whose babies are going thru the nerveracking RATTLE-DROPPING stage, try tying a ribbon on the rattle. Then pin the other end to the baby's clothes. Baby soon learns to pull it back himself. Using the colorful new tapes they have today, colored marking pencils, ribbon instead of twine, you can have a CHEERY CLOSET--WHERE YOU CAN FIND THINGS. Use colored tape or ribbon to hold hat boxes, gift boxes, closed. Or ?pell out what's inside with the tape. Cover shoe boxes with bright sticky-paper and mark on them "black flats," "patent heels," or whatever kind of shoes they are. Pretty -- arid no wondering "where did I put that!" When you make a MERINGUE PIE, keep meringue from, falling by adding lA tsp. baking powder. What do you do with a TORN NET CURTAIN -- or the rip in the net on your new hat or dress? Just mend arid apply plain old ordinary fingerr nail polish -- colorless, of course. One coat makes a per,-; feet finish. Press the frayed ends together until the polish dries. Curtain mended in this way should not be stretched after laundering. Iron them carefully instead, avoiding the mended spots. Why, of course you want a pretty PICTURE OF BABY. The trick is to keep him (or her) quiet while you're attempting to take it, by getting his attention to concentrate on somethirig. Try sticking a small piece of cellophane tape to one of his fingers. This will not only keep him busy, but also supply some good shots. Before replacing the lid on a PAINT CAN, breathe lightly into the can on top of the paint. This will preserve the paint and prevent formation of troublesome film. If storing paint for the season, follow the above procedure and then jam the lid on tightly and turn can upside down. When you open the can again, the paint will be as fresh as when you left it. You can get more FRUIT JUICE from lemons, limes and oranges if you soak them in a pan of water for a while before squeezing. Before cutting, roll fruit around on the table With your hand. SMARTY - CUT: When it's hair washing time -- or poochie's bath time -- steel wool placed in the drain will let water thru but keep hair from washing down into plumbing. The desperate need for Special Education teachers is being widely felt throughout the state, and no amount of legislation for facilities and courses for these handicapped people will do any good if we don't have teachers to handle the courses. To apply, you only need to write a letter of request to your high school principal, who in turn will see that they get to United Cerebral Palsy of McHenry County, whose president is Mrs. Charles J. Miller. This organization has stressed a need for male students to take part in/ this program. For further information, contact Mrs. John Boehm in McHenry.
