June 7. ^TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of May 23, 1940) Three McHenry firemen and two employees of the McHenry Dairy wei*e seriously burned early this morning When fire destroyed part of the plant located about two hiiles north of this city on the feast side of Fox River. One fireman, Floyd Covalt, Jr., and the two workmen, Kirk Selby fend Howard Petty, were taken to the hospital for treatment for burns on their faces and hands. The other two firetnen, Ted Miller and Herman kreutzer, suffered severe burns about the face. Mr. and Mrs. George Miller Of Chicago are happy to anhounce the arrival of a daughter at a Chicago hospital. Mrs. Aliller is the former Catherine Walsh. Donald Schaefer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry B. Schaefer, an eighth grade student at the public grade school, is the proud possessor of a letter from the Chicago Motor club, saying that he has been selected as the outstanding inember of the school safety patrol for the year 1939-194(3. Today the McHenry Plaindealer is celebrating the si*tyfrfth birthday of the founding of the publication. Many changes have taken place Since J. Miss Helen Stevens has returned from New York where she was called by the death of her father. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Wright Of McHenry annouhce the engagement an! approaching marriage of their daughter. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS A<iO (Taken from the files of May 30. 19401 Richard Vycital, who has just completed his junior year at the university of Illinois College of Pharmacy, ha> the honor of being elected president of the senior class of 1941 He will usher in the senior class of 1940 at their graduation exercises to be held at the Civic Opera house in Chicago as an added honor. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Walsh are rejoicing over the birth of a son at the Woodstock hospital. Miss Lillian Miller was complimented at a miscellaneous shower at the William Miller home at Richmond. She will become the bride of Elmer Hettermann on June 26. The William Pries building on the corner of Green and Elm street in which the National Tea store is located is going through extensive remodelling. The eastern wall will be moved still further east making a much larger store. Elvord A. Hawkins, 78 yeat*s old, a retired Chicago and Northwestern Pullman conductor, passed away in his sleep at his home at Wonder Lake apparently the victim of a heart attack. There will be nineteen eighth gradfers from the public grade school receiving diplomas Friday, May 31. The M. L. Schoenholtz family expects to be happily situated in Boulder, Colo., next we£k where Mr. Schoenholtz will attend summer school. He hopes to receive his Bachelor Of Arts and Bachelor of Education degrees this summer.
