' *Aj UTO ACCIDENT VICTIMS RECOVER FROM INJURIES Two accidents within three days involving several people from the community could have been disastrous, but seem to be turning out fairly well. The first involved Frank Surz, W, Parkview Drive, and another vehicle driven by a Bensenville youth about 10 a.m. Sunday, on Route 120 west of the Ringwood Road. Mr. Surz was taken to McHenry hospital and released. Inquiries lead us to believe that Ruth and Frank Surz are living with one of tHeir children in the city until he recovers sufficiently to resume his normal^ work load. Mr. Surz cares for his serriiinvalici' wife. The other accident happened also on Route 120 entering Lakeland Park Tuesday about 5:30 p.m. Mrs. Libby Bailey was driving the family vehicle accompanied by her childrenson, Val, and baby daughter. Michelle, and the children's grandmother, Mrs. Opal Pariso. It is reported that a 17 year old girl rammed the back of the Bailey car, throwing the wee one to the floor and sending Val's head through the back window. They were taken to McHenry hospital where the young lad's head was stitched and Mrs. Pariso was treated for shock and bruises. Fortunately, the other two passengers were not hurt. Meeting Nights of Village Board Changed One trustee voted aye, another nay and four passed during the debate about changing the meeting nights of the village board on Monday, May 24. This resulted in a technical tie vote which president Art Stuhlfeier broke by voting for the change. The meetings will be held the first and third Mondays, following passage of a proper ordinance. All members of the board were present for the meeting. According to road commissioner Harry Lock, a survey of road conditions has been made and necessary repairs will begin in the near future. He has straightened many of the damaged street signs and will replace where needed. A discussion developed among the trustees regarding the duties of the health and welfare committee John Boyle, who was named chairman, is affraid the duties may overlap with that of the building and zoning committee. This, he wishes to avoid. The president appointed trustees John Boyle and Rich Johnson and treasurer Bill Creutz to investigate the ordinances, see if they need revising and/or bringing up to date and report their findings to the board. The next meeting will be held Monday. June 14, at 8 p.m. in the beachhouse. The public is invited. Cullom-Knoll Meets Sunday The regularly scheduled meeting of the Cullom-Knoll Association will be held Sunday, June 6, at 3 p.m. in the beachhouse. All members are urged to attend. Former Resident Chosen Fraternity Sweetheart Sandra Passalaqua, daughter of Anne and Frank Passalaqua, formerly of 3007 N. Sandy, who started her education in the McHenry elementary school and went on to McHenry high for 3 years; then graduated from high school in Texas. She is now, a junior, majoring in. elementary education at the Sam Houston State Teachers college. In passing, Lynda's classmates graduate from McHenry high next week. I'ncle For Whom He Was Named Dies Suddenly Tom Bateman's uncle, Tom Bateman, 46 .assistant manager of the Astor Towers, "home" of many of the celebrities as they pass through Chicago, died suddenly early Monday morning of last week. He reported to associates that he had bumped his head, but was dead on arrival at St. Joseph's hospital. Services were held from the Scanlon Funeral Home with burial in Arlington cemetery last Thursday morning. Carol and Tom Bateman attended. The very talented hotel man began his career at the age of 16 and was formerly with the Ambassador East and the (now razed) Morrison hotel. Mr. Bateman's death made the Chicago papers and he was also mentioned by several renowned columnists. Another Local Queen Entry Our loyalties are very much divided with the entrance of another of our lovely young teens in the McHenry Fiesta Queen contest. Vying for the coveted title is vivacious looking Daiiene Palis whose mom and dad are Virginia and Eugene Palis^ She and other entry Janet Murray, are attending classes which will help to enhance their natural charm and beauty. We sincerely hope one of the young ladies will bring the crown back to Mc- Cullom Lake! Entertain Visitor At Vacation's End Elsie and Clayt Nelson spent eight restful and fruitful (or should we say fishful?) days visiting sons and families in Battle Creek, Mich., returning a week ago Monday. Several fishing trips yielded a large enough catch to feed Dr. Cliff and Glad and Dr. Don and Marlene Nelson and their progeny. The senior Nelsons roosted under the Don Nelson roof during their stay. They returned home in time to greet long time family friend, Jim Manning of Dickinson, Texas, who is traveling the country in a camper. It is a handsome white truck with sleeping quarters which can be raised or lowered at the touch of a button. The gentleman was traveling eastward to Cleveland (his old home town) for the summer. Recognition of Young Preacher " • The young man who offered the invocation and benediction at our Memorial Day program is James Edward Morris, the son of Monica Morris, a senior (B average) at McHenry high school. He was issued a license as an associate pastor in the Gospel Ministry, issued by the First Baptist church; March 10, 1965. He conducts services at the First Baptist chapel. Wonder Lake, every Sunday and has been active in the Baptist church for the past three years. The young man plans to enter college in Oklahoma as a pretheology student. When he receives his degree, he will enter the seminary in Texas for another three years. His ultimate goal is to become an ordained minister. In addition to his excellent scholastic average, he also finds time to lend his excellent voice to the McHenry high school choral group under the talented directoin of Miss Adele Froehlich. who is also editor of the Plaindealer.
