We have told you of our loading and unloading the family car in our Lrips to Dubuque the last four years and there wasn't too much exaggeration! Graduation^ took place last Saturday and a proud day it was -- not only for the graduates but for parents who may have shed a few tears of joy. In ithe loading department, the funniest thing we saw was a father trying to arrange a truck size load into a compact car. The Shamrocks ran into an epidemic of injuries last Sunday when three players were injured. The team bounced back to win the second game from Zion. The Dundee nine will be here next Sunday. Jim Petersen reports that the game will start at 1:30 p.m. The Shamrocks have a spirited team this year with a group of young players who want to play ball. They would like to have you look them over next Sunday. Manager Ed Mack got back in action for the Tigers Monday against Richmond and looked sharp an the mound. They go back to Richmond next Sunday. After seeing the crowds at the park and along the parade route on Memorial Day, we feel that old fashioned patriotism is not dead. TIGERS TAKE TWO OF THREEOVER HOUDAY The Johnsburg Tigers took two out of three games last weekend as the McHerrry County League began its interleague play. The Tigers dropped their first game, in seven innings, to Libertyville by a score of 4 to 3. It was a heartbreaking defeat for Ted Freund as the Tigers tied the score in the top of the seventh only to lose in the bottom of that inning. In the second game with Libertyville, the Tigers came from behind to score 8 runs in the 5th inning and 1 in the 7th, to take a 9 to 8 decision arid give Ted Freund the victory in relief of Jim Meyers. Wayne Hiller was the hitting star for Johnsburg getting 4 hits in 8 trips to the plate for the day. A passed ball and John Rourke's two run single gave the Tigers a 3 to 1 victory oyer Richmond on Monday. Ed Mack gave up only 4 hits and struck out 11 in his first appearance of the year. Richmond's left hander Rudsinski also gave up only 4 hits and struck out 15. Rudsinski was plagued with wildness as he walked seven Tigers. Next Sunday Johnsburg will play Richmond again at Richmond, starting time 1:30. On Tuesday, June 8, the Tigers will play a night game at Elgin. George, who has come up with some sound and practical thinking in his day, thinks the parade should enter one of the roadways to the Richmond Road cemeteries, make the circle and come out the other roadway. It might relieve traffic congestion and should be considered. Congressman Bob McClory and Mrs. McClory were here for the Memorial Day services and that was none other than our Plaindealer co-worker, Lee Hachmeisrter, chauffering them in a convertible. Those new benches in the park look real neat. Thanks to the Rotary Club in general* and "Moe" Buch in particular. The benches were made in Moe's basement as a club project. While this column is not meant for obituaries, there are many times when good friends die that we feel the loss greatly. For the past twenty-five years we knew Maurice Gladstone and friendship, grew stranger with each year. One night as a small group sat around a table he told us five points of his creed and it was unanimous opinion that we could never go far wrong if we could fallow those points in our daily routine. Managers met with Ken Reed, county chairman, and Harold Vycital, County American Legion Council commander, at Woodstock last week to outline rules and approve the schedule. Reed, explained that boys up through 18--18 on and up to August 31, 19§5-- are eligible to play. He outlined eligibility rules to show the territory for the respective teams and to emphasize exceptions. The managers approved a 14- game schedule and agreed that the league leader at the end of the first half of play on July 1 would be the county representative in district play. Woodstock, which currently enjoys a 25-game winning streak against county foes, opens on June 13 by entertaining McHenry. Other opening games include Harvard at Wonder Lake, Union at Algonquin and Hebron at Crystal Lake. Teams play, again Wednesday, June 16 and continue with a Wednesday-Sunday program. This is an important event with awards given and new officers announced.. The Jlrst vice-president, Bonnie Bruce, was toastmistress for the evening and introduced the board members and their mothers. After everyone had finished, the president's talk was given by Adrienne PerrLno. She gave comments on each of the board members and sponsors. To frMiss Bishop and Miss Frantz, sponsors, she presented gifts from the. board. Sue Farr, general sports manager, gave a talk on the sports program and presented awards. She talked about the different activities and gave her comments on the all-star games. The first local awards were given oujt by Sue Benoche, social chairman, and Kim Davis, publicity chairman, as Sue Farr read the names. Second local awards, were given by Kandy Thompson, assistant sports manager. The first state awards were presented by Cathy McMillan, assistant sports manager. Senior awards were given by Sue Farr. The bowling awards for the two highest games were given by Bobbie Donnelly, second vice-president, to Laurie Sanford and Cheryl Stahlman. McHenry Junior Sports Jamboree Here June 20 The list of events for the McHenry Junior Sports Jamboree, to be held here on Sunday, June 20, was announced today by Lee Hiller, Jamboree chairman for the McHenry Jaycees. A total of 39 events is scheduled for the meet. Every child entered in the meet will receive a certificate of participation, suitable for framing, and ribbons will go to the winners of the first three places in each event. First place winners in each event will be eligible to enter the sectional meet at Gary on July 17, where they will compete against local winners from 18 other towns. Sectional winners will receive a free trip .to the state finals at Charleston on August 5 to 7, 1965. Too many errors \ at the wrong time by Jakes helped Casey's to come up with their runs, as they had only 6 earned runs. Top hitter for Casey's was Williams, who went 2-3, drove in 3, and scored 2. Although Ed Todd batted only two times officially, he scored 2 runs and drove in two for Jakes. Scoring R H E SHAMROCKS DIVIDE WITH ZION SUNDAY The McHenry Shamrocks split a double header with Zion Sunday. After losing 3 players in the first 3 innings of the opener, we fell apart. In the first inning John Meyers was hurt while covering second base, then as we were batting in the second inning Russ Cox was hit in the face by his own foul ball, and in the third inning Denny Justen was hurt while covering second base on an attempted steal. In the sixth inning we started to show some signs of life by batting around and scoring 3 runs. In the seventh, which was the last inning, we started another rally but we were unable to score any runs. Both games were seven innings long. In the second game we did an about face and started tq hit the ball. Bob Harris, Clarence Adams, and Jim Petersen had 2 for 4. Clarence Adams hit a home run, and Bob Harris and Jim Petersen each hit a triple. Phil Schmitt pitched some real fine baseball for us Sunday. He pitched the last 6 innings in the first game, and then came back and pitched the first four innings of the second game. He allowed only one hit during the first four innings of the second game. The Illinois State Amateur Roiler Skating Association held its roller skating championship recently at Harvey. The McHenry Skating club had three teams entered in the Entra B dance division, in which Judy Newkirk and Chuck Olcott took second place, Pam Drawz and Dale Marzno placed third and Cindy Neeley and Charles Violett were fourth. Joan Buttitto placed second in the tiny tots' boys' singles, free style, and his sister, Regina, took a third in girls' juvenile singles.
