Doenecke preached his last 6ermon at Mount Hope Methodist church. Much to everyone's sorrow he has retired, but will remain in the community to further his work with the children in the area. In appreciation for the work and devotion shown all the children in the area, the little League committee has decided to name the ball field at Moumt Hope church in his honor. Rev. Doenecke will not be idle after his retirement, he intends to go on with his church work and will go wherever he is needed." He will help during the summer when other pastors are on vacation and where churches are too small for permanent pastor. The congregation as well as all of Rev. and Mrs. Doenecke's friends and neighbors wish them nothing but the best for the future. Other church news -- The Rock River annual conference was held during the week of June 7 through the 11, at the Northern Illinois University, in DeKalb. Glenda Wieck was the delegate and Sally Jo Von Bruenchenheim from Mount Hope. Rev. John C. Atherton will be the new pastor of Mount Hope. He and his wife, Marilyn, with their two children, Piet and Johnalyn, will be a welcomed family in the community. Rev. Atherton will say his first sermon on Sunday, June 20 The Women's Society of Christian Service met on Tuesday, June 9, at the church. The hostesses were Phyllis Meckley and Mrs. Detlow. An ice cream social is planned for Aug. 14, at the church. Tickets. ..will be on sale very soon. Dee Oakley was in charge of the devotion, for the June meeting. At next month's meeting a pot-luck supper is plpjjned. It will be held on Wednesday, July 14. On June 20, the senior high school Methodist Youth's soft ball team will have its first game of the season against Alden. Everyone is welcomed to help root for the home team. The rummage sale sponsored by the Women's Society was a huge success and they wish to express their appreciation for all the help they received. The Blessed Virgin Sodality presented Marlyn Van Zevern with a beautiful going away present. Marlyn and her family left for California on June 6. The Sodality also congratulated Rose Tonyan, who celebrated her golden wedding anniversary on June 16. News For Friends And Neighbors Melanee Pederson was confirmed on June 6 at,, the Good Shephard Church of Lake Villa. On that day Melanee enjoyed a pre-graduation party and Confirmation party with relatives and friends. The children enjoyed the beautiful diay by swimming and a wonderful time was had by all. The Cub Scouts have planned a family picnic for June 27 at 2 p.m. It will be held at Mount Hope church grounds. Each family is to bring their own family picnic. The pinewood derby will be the high light of the day. The state and sheriff police have been doing a terrific job of patrolling our area and will continue to do so. They have issued numerous tickets to speeder in the last week, which I as well as the rest of the residents hope will be only the start in controlling the speeders in our community. On Wednesday, June 4, Dave Pederson received his degree in Liberal Arts at McCormick Place. Dave just completed his third year at the Concordia College. Those that attended were his father, Mel Pederson, grandmother, Mrs. Wielgas, and Dave's girl friend, Lana Anderson. Bob and Jerry Glueck entertained an old friend from Chicago for a few days last week. Our son, Larry, enjoyed his graduation day with af family party. / Bob .and Lorraine' Hurckes celebrated their son's graduation night with a family gathering.
