T "** T THE McHENRY PLATNDEALER Thursday, .Tune 24, 1965 M LAKE NEWS LEVESQUE 885-3191 Youngster Turns In Alarm Afler Noticing Odor For a brief while, terror was struck in the hearts of residents along Spring Road when a leak in a gas line was discovered, between 5:30 and 6 p.m. Friday, Northern Illinois Gas Company sent an emergency truck to investigate and ho reported there was no danger and the leaking pipe would be fixed Saturday morning. Nine-year-old Margie Olson informed her brother, Tom, who had just come home from work, that she noticed a very strange odor and a hissing sound coming from the THlie Kanak property. . Tom - immediately investigated and found the source of the .-smell. He called the gas company and the local police, and immediately barricaded the one-block area which was involved. The curious ones who gathered were warned not to strike a light of any kind. Some of us had visions of the street going up but th'it fear was quickly put to rest. The damage occurred inadvertently late Friday by a rr.cmber of the Lakeland Construction crew. Shops And Finds A Bride The greatest favor Mrs. Tony Piotrowski did for her son, Eugene, was to send him to the grocery store in his younger days for it was over the counter that he and lovely Lottie Wasyleczka discovered a mutual attraction which ultimately led to marriage which has survived twenty-five years. All was not sweetness and light in the very beginning, however, because Gene made dates with Lottie and she promptly broke them! They lirially got together and afler a. coui tship of two yea: s, were wed in-formal riles at St. Augustine's Church, Chicago, June 21940. They took a honeymoon trip to the Wisconsin Dells and set up housekeeping in the city. Thejr first child, new Mrs. Phyllis Straumann, was born in 1941 and Delores followed in 1945. Gene supported his growing family by working in a war plant during World War II and later for a tool and die company. ALthough Gene had been familiar with McCullom Lake since early boyhood, the family did not make it their permanent homo until 1951 when he and Lottie purchased the Royal Blue store from Joe Crick and went into the grocery business. The old building was torn down in 1956 to make way for a modern concrete block structure. They closed the doors on retail selling in Mav, 19fil. Gene ran for trustee on the Local ticket, in 1057 and served a four-year term. He is now employed with the State Highway Department, and Lot.tie is a checker at a grocery store in McHenry. They were blessed with four handsome grandchildren Sandy, 5 in August. Debbie, 3, Dennis, 2'£, and Jcanotto, S mC onths old. The Piotrowskis will mark their silver wedding anniversary with a Mass recited at St. Patrick's Catholic Church Saturday at 9 a.m. and plan to have a small dinner party with chums of long standing Mr. and Rtfrs. Gerald Burg. May we offer our best wishes on this momentous milestone. Construction Work Progressing Many trees and bushes, some thirty-five years okl, fell before the "wheels of progress" when the rebuilding of Spring Road was begun last week. At this time, Road Commissioner Harry Lock also reported that weeds Wve been, cut along the rightof- way within the village limits and road pitching wili be carried out. A complaint of an inadequate septic problem on Fountain Lane which has caused concern to the neighbors was also discussed and proper action instituted. His arrangement was a cemetery with tombs! ones for identification of the plants, and encircled same with a paper link chain! He has cared for these plants with no outside lor inside) help and feels quite clever. His mother, Petey, took a third for her African violet entry and his aunt, Mrs. Viv Lemker, was awarded a second for her day lily.
