Thursday, June 24. 1965 THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER ' • ..-'J l- ' * • Section Three -- Page One! "S t Graduation And Coronation/ Close Of TOPS Year Dolores Whiter 1964 TOPS queen, Kathy Christopher, 1963 queen, and Patricia Schaller, KOPS queen, are shown at the graduation and coronation ceremonies held recently. Everyone, who has a weight problem should have attended the first coronation and graduation of the local TOPS chapter, Wednesday night at club rooms in Wonder Lake. It was inspirational to see what people can do when they really try. I Was probably especially impressed because I was chapter leader when these gills joined and X know what they looked like then and I was certainly ptoud of them last week when I, saw them. The "Determined Dolls" TOPS chapter from liakeland Park were special guests of the evening. The club room was transformed into a theatrical setting complete with usherettes or page girls who presented you with a carnation and a program as you entered. Pages were Kathy Tessendorf and Nancy White. Leader Dorothy Valentine gave the welcoming speech and presented the winners for 1963 and 1964. The winner of t-fot? KOPS trophy was Patricia Schaller. The „ KOPS trophies are given only to those who have achieved the ideal weight set for them by their doctors. They must maintain the weight within 3 lbs. for a period of three months before they are eligible for the trophy and if at any time they exceed the ideal weight they can lose their KOPS status- - so this trophy is one greatly prized by all. TOPS means "Take Off Pounds Sensibly" and KOPS means "Keep Off Pounds Sensibly". Pat lost 28 lbs to achieve her goal. Queen for 1963, Katherine Christopher, dropped a neat 50 lbs. to become the chapter queen for 1963. She was awarded her trophy and robe on Wednesday night. Kathy is still holding her own very well and proud of it. Queen for 1964. Delores White, lost 64 lbs to become 1964 queen. If you think 64 lbs. doesn't make a difference you should see her before and after pictures. Delores was awarded her trophy and I'm sure it was one of the most thrilling moments of her life. Winners In each weight division were given their awards by Recorder Larraine Frost, Thinners were Kathy Christopher, Patricia Schaller, Sally Tessendorf, Dorothy Valentine, Ruth Koehler and Delores' White. TThree separate skits were presented by the members $?hich added much to the delight of the spectators. Delores White is not only the 1964 queen and the chapter secretary, but she is also the chapter entertainer and her skits on Wednesday night were "TOPS" "No-Cal" refreshments were served after the program. You just can't hornswoggle these "gals" into serving gooey desserfs at their functions. They are serious about this TOPS business and they don't care who knows it. Officers for the Wonder Lake chapter are: "Leader, Dorothy Valentine; co-leader, Katherine Christopher; secretary, Delores White; treasurer, Mar tha Rescino and recorder, Larraine Frost. They have a full quota of members -- 30 -- are doing a wonderful, job. Orchids to all of you girls for a job well done! However, it was only for minor surgery and she returned home Sunday afternoon feeling fine. Your reporter spent a couple of days in Harvard Hospital last week but it was nothing serious. Just the usual routine check. I don't have time to be sick so every now and then I take a couple days off to make sure everything is OK. I'm a great believer in the "ounce of prevention".
