Remember us back here when you're on tour, you -tftQQght you didn't have a *<shance. • Lovely Luncheon The McHenry hospital expansion program held another 'luncheon for the McHenry ^fMaindealer reporters on the -afternoon of June 17. It was ^so good to meet some of the leather reporters as well as to be brought up to date on the jjfogress of the new addition. This reporter compliments the program, its purpose, and especially, its methods. Team Four . . . leading on the inside; team one back by a nose; team two and three jockeying for a lead. And they're away into the golf race. Handicaps are dropping and the competition is getting rougher each week. Mel "Sandbagger" Simmons' handicap has dropped over fifteen points yielding a lov^ net score of twenty-two! Is it true that you are the world's best amateur golfer, Mel? Or the slickest sandbagger? Mel Simmons and Jim Farley of team two are gaining or sandbagging, depending on which day you're talking about. And Carl Salaz and Art Herman, team three, are becoming a threat. Art, you really should ask for a consideration on your fairway fee, since you provide so much food for their ill-kept, starving insects. Tullahoma Tidings Dad and Mom Kimbro write that they are very happy and had a lovely fifty-fourth anniversary dinner at the home of their niece. "Shut the Door" . . . was the broken record phrase of the day on Sunday, June 13, for Mike Major's graduation party. Chilly was the wind although the sun was warming when it wasn't obscured by clouds, but the warmth didn't come in when the traffic did, only the chilly wind. "Shut the door!" became the catch phrase and/or by-word. Aunts, uncles and cousins; brother Steve, Jr., and his family; and of course Mary Larkin made up the full and fun houseful of the day. It ended up to be a triple celebration: cousin Russel's birthday was that same week and cousin Richard was graduating from Willowbrook high school the following Sunday. The buffet was plentiful and so was the pleasure of the party. Springfield Revisited Since the inauguration in January, Delores Hanahan had wanted to go back to Springfield with the children to see the House in session. She felt it would be most interesting to see the- legislature in action and for the children to see Daddy Tom at work. After much ado, the dates were set and she and the children drove down to spend a few days with Daddy and to see the House in action -- the first they did, the latter, they didn't! No regular session while they were there! But there was plenty of action in their own house, or rather family, for the five days of their stay at a Springfield motel. The children could hardly have been livelier, reports Delores, who came home to get a rest from her pseudeo-vacation. They certainly had a very full vacation, which included a thorough tour of the Capitol, visits to the Lincoln tomb and all the other historical sights irt Springfield and then the village in New Salem and all its places of interest. Ice skating, swimming, and eating out were the relaxing (?) activities. While at New Salem, the proverbial- goat >wha will eat anything materialized: while the children were admiring the creatures with their noses up against the fence, Billy Goat reached over and snatched Connie's brand' new cute straw hat which Daddy had just bought all the kids, and before Tom could get the hat out of the animal's mouth, it looked like the remainder of a certain TV commercial in which the man "eats his bet", as it were! Connie was crushed! As if those five days were not enough] to finish off one mother, their destination was not yet hoipe, but rather Chicago where Delores attended her brother Art's graduation from Morton East high in Cicero on Tuesday evening, and then spent the following day visiting there. Very full vacation.. Now for a rest. Happy Birthday Today to Bob Lakowske. Tomorrow to Mike Anderson who becomes a teenager. . On Saturday, the 26th, to my favorite husband who should have a fine fishing trip on his day, and to Michael Bratherton who will be seven years- old. Terrace Tidings On Saturday, June 12, after a hard day at the rummage sale, Pat and Tom Merhaut attended a dinner dance in? Chicago, and afterward visited some of the fine night spots to fill the . evening's entertainment.. On Sunday-, the Benoche home was buzzing when an open house was held for Jeannie Jo's graduation from McHenry high. In all, around fifty people enjoyed the open house. Jeannie Jo was among the 272 graduates at McHenry. She was a member of the Pep Club and was first alternate for a scholarship awarded by them, and was a member of the National Honor Society. Jeannie was also awarded a teacher's scholarship for Northern Illinois and on the) weekend she will go to Northern for her orientation. On the eleventh, the Bob Dicks family attended the graduation of Leslie Dicks from Libertyville high and brought home a weekend visitor, Pete Amenowicz, who also attended graduation exercises for Leslie. On Saturday, Susan graduated in the a.m. from St. Joseph's grammar school in Libertyville, at which time only the parents could attend. On Sunday, the Dicks were surprised by a visit from John, Sophia and Bobby Zurowski of Chicago, who dropped in for a little while. Later Sunday afternoon, Bob, Jerry and Mary attended the graduation party given for Leslie and Susie Dicks of ;Libertyville. On Monday, visitors in the Dicks home were Ann and Stan Amenowicz and Uncle Stanley ) Amenowicz, and Grandma and Grandpa Szydlowski. When the day was nearly over, Mary gathered herself together and has taken a vacation trip back with them. SCHOLARSHIP IS AWARDED TO McHENRY TEACHER Mrs. Fern Mack of the McHenry high school faculty is one of forty-three Illinois teachers named to receive scholarships for eight weeks of study of the English language, composition and a workshop at the University of Illinois. She will be studying on a National Defense Education Act scholarship. Completion of classes will give her eight hours of credit toward a master's degree. Scholarships were awarded for a number of reasons, among them years of experience,, recommendation from department head and memberships in associations.
