Section Two --- Page Four THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Thursday, July 22. 1965 McCullom Lake News EVE' LEVESQUE LOCAL FLOAT TIES FOR FIRST PLACE IN PARADE Chrys Levesque, 19, who designed and created the float for Wee Willie's--a new business enterprise in the village •-- was awarded a handsome trophy at the Drum Carps Magic pageant Sunday night. The float which was submitted was a pool table mounted on a hay rack with a cue stick angling into it and featured cue balls suspended on wires originating from giant records, mounted on the back of the float. The left front corner also featured a giant malted . shake. The entry . tied for first on the basis of originality with the entry submitted by the McHenry Kiwanis Club. Zion Lutheran Walther League Float received a first also-- for beauty. Chrys began the work on the float which was her fourth, a week ago Sunday and it was completed just minutes before the line up time scheduled in McHenry. Previously, the young lady had built three for the Chamber of Commerce and one of these received an award in Woodstock. About 4800 paper napkins, fringe, petal sheeting, gold foil, and crepe paper were used in the construction which was carried out in the H. H. Mass hay barn. Riding the float in the parade were Chrys and the proprietor of Wee Willie's, Bill Walter, who was dressed in a chef's cap and apron. ---- 4 Long Time Resident Dies Suddenly Americo (Harry) Scapicchi, 82, passed away suddenly in McHenry hospital last week Thursday where he had been a patient since Tuesday morning. Other details appear in the obituary column of the Plaindealer. Harry, as he called himself, proved to be a colorful character during his long time residence in the village. As late as last summer, he was still riding his bike to town at the age of 81! Although he still retained the accent of his native country, Italy, he had no trouble carrying on his extensive business affairs. Mr. Scapicchi was found on the floor in his kitchen by Sally Hocin who became alarmed when he did not apjpear at her home and she could not locate him in Oak Park. She and her daughter, Judy Young and a neighbor forced entrance and summoned the Wonder Lake Rescue squad who took him, to the hospital. Preceded in death by his wife, Felicino, he is survived by one son Erminio of California and one granddaughter). Local arrangements were made with George R. Justen and Son funeral home until the body was removed to a Chicago mortuary. Funeral Mass was recited Monday morning in St. Angela Catholic Church, with burial in Queen of Heaven cemetery, Hillside. Bud Rowden Did The Job!! The Cullom-Knoll square S85-3191 dance which was held at the beach last Saturday night proved that almost everyone can become profficient in the art in a short time. There was one notable exception--namely, Don Parenti! He did his best to prove that he had TWO LEFT feet, but his appearance and good humor more than made up for any lack of skill! The one set composed of the Parentis; Ed Hammersteins, Jr., Marianne and Allan Mc- Kim, Marge Olsen and Ray Lary' caused more than a fair share of amusement for the spectators. They, really HAMMED it up! Bud Rowden assisted by his capable wife. demonstrated some fancy maneuvers and certainly simplified the learning with the skillful way in which he instructed. Betty Lou and Boyd Knaack of West Shore Beach were one Of the most professional appearing couples, and there were some others who had the knack also. It was an evening of camaraderie which will long be remembered and it just might be the first of many. Credit for carrying out the plans must go to Roger Kinsey, Frank Kurth, Gail and Richard Johnson, Barbara Thacker, and Ray Lary. They deserve a great deal of praise! "Keep Cool! Play Pool!" Wee Willie's, the name of the new business establishment located at 5005 W. McCullom Lake Road which opens its doors for pool and other games at noon on Saturday, July 24. The building features a handsome snack shop which will carry a varied menu of light refreshments. It has not been determined if the food area will be ready by Saturday. The grand opening festivities will be held in the near future and drive-in facilities are also being planned. Former Resident Seriously Injured In Head-on Collision It was learned late last week that Mrs. Chuck Brocken and her three children were injured in a head on collision with another vehicle near Cedar Rapids, Iowa, a week ago Tuesday night. Lee and her three children --Jan, Jeff, and Jimmy, were visiting her parents while husband Chuck remained at home. He went to Iowa immediately upon learning of the accident. According to the limited information available, Lee sustained extensive injuries and will remain in the Cedar Rapids hospital until she can be moved elsewhere. Jimmy received injuries also and will be hospitalized with his mother. The other two were treated and released. The Brockmans resided on W. East Lane for many years until they moved to Crystal Lake. We sincerely extend our wishes that Lee's injuries are not as serious as first reported. Good Deed Plays Dirty Trick A dish of ice cream for her son,, Donald, resulted in two broken ribs for Elma Nelson, Sunday evening. Seems as though the Nelsons had just finished a delightful "sharing" type meal with Mayda and Gene Shigley, when Don asked for the treat. Elma scurried to the basement freezer and was about to deliver it when., she remembered that he loves chocolate syrup, too. She fixed the sundae and was returning to the back yard through the screen porch when the combination of slippery shoes and five stairs caused her fall. A doctor was called and arrangements made for emergency treatment at Memorial Hqspital for McHenry County, Woodstock. She was x-rayed and taped and is now sporting a fancy (and expensive!) girdle! One rib was cracked in two places and the other in one. As of Monday morning, Elma was still suffering from shock and the effects of sedation. She will no doubt have pain for quite some time, but we hope her recovery will be rapid. Bet she sure would love to have your cherry greetings! Hosts His Own Party For 82 Years Theodor (Papa) Olsen who turned 82 on Tuesday, July 20, and his wife Sally, hosted a fabulous birthday party Sunday afternoon. His vigor and virility bely his age, we are happy to report. About fifty persons were on hand to wish him happy returns including the Ole Olsen family: Shirley and Art Olsen and family; Karen and Chuck Gies and their two boys; the Charley Temple family; Evie and A1 Nelson and their daughters, including the two married ones and their spouses and kids; Marge and Mel Tichy and sons; Susan and Bud Ca- COL PRUSSAT'S On Pistakee Bay has re-opened the Rathskellar IMPORTED GERMAN BEER Dining area specializing in: • Pizza • Sleaks • Fried Chicken • Cheeseburgers • Hamburgers -- Closed on Mondays -- J. Cjjorie and Ted Olsen and their family who live in California were unable to come, of course. But no doubt Ted made his call on the actual date. The menu included such succulent dishes as roast beef and turkey, salads of all varieties, and all the goodies which accompany a meal of this type and a gorgeous cake. There was plenty of liquid refreshments to suit all tastes! It was a great affair and thoroughly enjoyed! Accolades In Order For Frank Kurth Certainly deserving of the highest praise is Frank Kurth who did a magnificent job of tiling the beach house floor. The pattern he selected is so tasteful ajid enhances the rest of the decor. He was working against terrific obstacles because the concrete floor was anything but level! There was also many large pieces that had to be moved. But everything is tiled with the exception of the floor under the sink and the furnace. Frank, who has contributed vastly towards the welfare of his community, can wear another "feather in his cap!" Out Of A Job! Have you seen Dennis Huff, by any chance? There is every possibility that you wouldn't even recognize him if you did. The very nice young man who played Santa Claus every Christmas since he was quite young, has lost that position for good! But we don't think he objects. Having slimmed down to 160 handsome pounds, Denny is truly a NEW man, and shows it. He has recovered completely from the terrible accident last year and wears his new appearance beautifully. We couldn't be happier for one of the nicest young fellas in our acquaintance. "Angry Young Man!" Kenneth George Ingersol was looking forward to a transistor radio for his birthday, but he will be forced to sacrifice that pleasure. Seems as though the kids left the gate open and the family poocl escaped only to be picked ui by the local constabulary. Th( price of the fine coincided with the price of his gift anc now you have the sad tale anc one very UNHAPPY man! SEEK 4-H QUEEN TITLE 'Nuthin' Like The Country So discovered Mildred an A1 Daker of Chicago for the past two weeks. TV GAME BROUGHT TO PATIENT BY LOCAL NURSE Mrs. Norma Gunn of Indian Ridge Drive, Sunnyside Estates, supervisory nurse at Lutheran General hospital, Park Ridge, assisted a patient to watch the All-Star game in Chicago last week. Peter De Sario was flat on his back at the hospital after a spinal disk operation and couldn't sit up to watch the game on television. Mrs. Gunn and an orderly set up two mirrors. The TV picture was reflected into one behind the bed, and the picture then was reflected into a mirror attached to a bracket over the bed.
